The original is sooooo much darker...the evil people kill their "son" ...the parents lose and are killed while their child's tongue is cut out and used as the evil people's new child....and they go off to another resort to entrap a new family

So in a way, this is a spiritual sequel more than a remake. You could just say Ant was the child from the original (ignoring any differences in gender).
This is classic Hollywood remake..

Honestly, I never saw the original cause knowing it has the same two acts and how it ends, it would just piss me off. This remake fully justifies its existence because of the satisfying ending and made it more like a ‘90s psycho-thriller (a la Fear, Single White Female, Hand that Rocks the Cradle, etc.). It gets on your nerves, but it gets the job done in the end.
I absolutely would leave my daughter's bunny!! LOL. We'll move on as a family.

Just saw this in theaters last night and was wildly uncomfortable from start to finish. That’s a horror movie done right! 👏 and that ending was SO SATISFYING
James McAvoy is so daddy in this film! I mean if James asked me to come to his English countryside home I probably would accept the invite too 😂😅🥲
I swear James gets better and better with every single film he makes. Always impresses with his work. He was robbed of an Oscar for Split. Brilliant actor.

I remember sitting at the end of the movie with my mouth gaping for like three minutes, horror rarely does that to me… that meant it was a good movie, it was a fantastic movie!!

Originally, this movie is very much based on the “values” of skandinavian cultures - about being polite and if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say nothing at all… throw in the mix that they are on vacation and want to experience their culture, and be respectful in there home…. It’s a disturbing movie on many levels…
They really changed the whole entire ending. I prefer the original…it hit harder. James was looking mighty fine in this movie though.

It's what I feel with most US remakes. I nearly threw something when I saw how watered down "Old Boy"was.
prefer this ending WAYYYYY more than the original. that third act was so fun and satisfying to experience
It’s incredible seeing how far McAvoy has come. I remember watching him in Shameless back in 2004! He was really great in this, I actually think he saved it. Not as good as the original Speak No Evil, I missed the bleak ending in this one lol
If you’re in to films with more like the original, I highly recommend Eden Lake! For one thing it has Michael Fassbender lol
I saw him in IT: Chapter 2 as Bill Denbrough. He talked in an American accent instead of his Scottish one.
Agnes was upset about Ant and she was confused about what was happening to the boy. She wanted Hoppy and Ant to come with them.

this ending was so fucking satisfying, i liked the original because it was so dark and shocking but honey this ending.... i was eating it up i was cheering for that boy. i like both versions of this movie for different reasons.
James MacAvoy is simply one of the greatest actors of this generation, he can play any role with chilling perfection

The new ending is more satisfying, but it kind of dilutes the impact of the movie and erodes some of its darker themes. But USA cinema in general cannot handle grim endings (most USA remakes of European dark thrillers get definitely lighter and happy-endingly). As always thanks for the great content ^^.
Although this one has a more satisfactory ending, and I never wanna watch the OG again, like Wes said. But I still feel that the OG is a better film. I Hate the way American films always have to change things to a happy ending.....life isn't always happy!

Yay! I didn't know if I wanted to watch this version after the gritty original but I do love me some McAvoy! Also, I just watched Strange Darling and I know my Petty nephews would LOVE it! Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, and an absolute insane cat and mouse serial killer plot!
Lol, the boy did well. And I love his shouting that mirrored how the men were shouting before. If it were me I would have finished the guy and then drove to the nearest city or town and talk to the cops immediately. You got the kid who has signs of abuse all over him to back up the true story, and the photo evidence unless the phone was destroyed in a scene I didn’t see, plus there’s probably a pond full of evidence. They’ll be fine 😂

This reminded me of “A Perfect Getaway” 2009 with kids thrown in the mix.
The rage I felt against everyone in this movie. Everyone but the kids were fucking stupid 😂😂 I was face palming the entire movie because, why are they so weak and easily manipulated? Also, this one is a mild and very Hollywood-ish compared to the original. I was surprised they decided to go the "Happy-Ending" route here

Unsatisfied with the ending because the dad was soooo useless. He should’ve made the ultimate sacrifice since he couldn’t protect his family throughout the film. Honestly Ant and the mom did most of the work.

you guys should watch "monsters: the erik and lyle menendez case" it's a second season after the jeffrey dahmer show. it's a really crazy case and tragic.
I watched the movie yesterday because I wanted to watch this today. I haven’t seen the original; guess I will now. This movie was heavy & intense & upsetting & actually kinda scary. I never felt like I knew how it would play out. I have only a handful of movies that I think are actually scary (The Descent being #1). Those kids really were the standouts. I teared up thinking about that little boy at the end. That said, McAvoy was too muscular for his height. It just makes you look shorter - think about Danzig ffs. Or Zach Efron for that matter. Also, sulfuric acid is extremely caustic (3-ish pH) & he would have motherfucking severe burns even if it was only a few seconds of contact. You would not be advised to rinse for only 15 seconds! It would’ve been very satisfying to me to see him have hideous burns on his face before he met his grisly end. Those are my only notes lol

This is the only iteration of this movie that I will ever watch. I saw the original and it was just so frustrating. I wanted to through a brick through my television. The characters were so stupid and passive that I just stopped caring after a while. I had heard that they changed the ending of this one but I assumed that the characters would still be stupid (and they were 🤪), so I'm taking a pass on watching the whole thing. I knew you would bring it with a great reaction though, so here I am.
They freaking irritated me so much that family how weak they were. I’ve already got family who don’t like me because I have a backbone and I talk back often already. Because I don’t let people control me. lol 😂 but it really really frustrated me how creepy those parents were and how weak those parents were. they should’ve just not gonna lie. They should’ve took that boy too with them and reported it abuse lol . But to be honest, they’re now themselves getting killed.
Shows how great McAvoy is at acting when he can create such an unlikeable character instantly within just a few words and expressions.

@@brunosalada7790 Nah, both times I saw it, you could feel the audience was completely on-board and engaged. If you’re completely tethered to what the original did, I can see why you wouldn’t like this, but what the remake did was completely valid and well-done.

This remake had me until the end and then they ruined it. Have no idea why they strayed from the original. Horror is not meant to be sanitized
