"I trained for 5 hours a day for 3 months and gained 30 pounds of muscle. Probably 8% bf too and only ate chicken breast, rice and broccoli." every celebrity transformation ever
The thing is this gives wrong ideas to some people what it takes to get a body like he has. I can imagine someone who doesn't know much about lifting spending hours and hours on gym trying to get a muscular body when actually it takes max hour a day max 5 times a week in the gym
Who in the right mind would train for 5 hours a day? Not ever pro body builders work out for that long. Your just literally over training and wasting your muscle away.
Jr Padilla i train 7 hours a day 6 days a week its called being a grafter and when i first started my job my body blew up in about 4 weeks maybe my genes are just amazing but i dont get why people think it takes months and months to get ripped and big
I hate this Fcuking cliche .....”I trained for 18 hours a day & ate only chicken & broccoli” aaarrggghhhhh ......why?!?!?? It’s counter productive as hell!
If you train 5 hours a day, you'll look like a farm laborer man!
Dude, these Hollywood workout plans are always soooooo exaggerated. 6 hours of training a day? I swear they only say crazy shit like that so people dont question the steroid use. "Oh he worked out 6 hours a day? Thats why he's so big, couldnt be steroids"
Mr Olympias don't even train for 3-6 hours a day and they are admitantly on gear.
also it's making a statement to other directors how committed they were to their role. It's a job interview.
Rapxxxure - Solid - Arnold said it best, there are long workouts, and hard workouts, but no long hard workouts. After 90 mins your workout intensity is shot. 💪😫💦
Rapxxxure well if he said I workout 3-4 times a week, mix in some cardio and eat relatively clean and around shooting a clean up the diet a bit more. This would be a really logical and possibly true thing. People who know fitness will be like okay makes sense. Most people will be like ohhhh steroids. So even if they aren’t on anything, I’m sure they stretch the truth to make it seem super hard. I wouldn’t doubt it if a lot have shit trainers and overtrain themselves though. With all the food they eat they should support enough to build some muscle even with all the extra training
Arnold trained 5 hours a day with dianobol back in the day.
Depends on what your training consists of though. I don't train to look good personally, I strength train, run and do calisthenics. I train full body 6 days a week to get that in. Mon Wed and Fri are lifting days. My average time spent in the gym on those days is around 2 hours, then I go home, do a 20 min core circuit and often head out for a 30 min run.
Now granted I'm not bodybuilding, I have 2 min rest periods, my rep ranges are usually 5-2 depending on the percentage of 1rm that I'm on that week, but if you take into account that an actor has to do stunt training, skills stuff e.t.c. for the role it'd be easy to spend that amount of time 'training'. It's just not 6 hours of focused low rest high intensity bodybuilding style training.
The good ol' 25hour daily workout with a Trenbologna sandwich for lunch.
yummm!
cringe
Trenbolognese
It's funny how these celebrities almost give the same answers word for word. "I trained 4-5 hours a day and a chicken breast, rice and broccoli". It's almost like they're on code and being given lines to recite.
Sounds like a good game plan.
Illuminate Confirmed
Imagine that
Actors reciting lines
😆
Exactly what I was thinking haha
just like when they say they haven't gotten any plastic surgery or injections . This is why I don't believe them at all.
Jason: I wanted to really get into the role of aqua man, so I ate tuna for 6 months straight
😂
@Jordan M plancton or pussy.
_”I hear you can talk to fish…”_
@Jordan M he does eat fish
Lmao
“Aackwah-man”.
Jonathan finally someone said it
Aackward-man
lol so true
My Australian accent approves this pronunciation :) I hear Americans pronounce it as Ockwa-man.
That’s how english people say it. the language is english
6 hours a day training and 2 hours a day actually filming. Ya ok Mr. Chicken and broccoli
NGL it's probably just gonna be 6 hours at the gym on workdays or something. I doubt they do the same level of exercise in that timespan as most lifters do in their hour. but keeping your body moving, instead of sitting on the couch after training prob does help in keeping fat off.
I think these actors give generic PC statements rather than factual regimens. These actors are very good at sticking to their scripts on how they're percieved by the public.
Still, it would be nice if one of them came out and said they've been training 4 days a week for the past 5 years with a normal diet.
Be even nicer if one came out and said didn't do shit but take gear, son!
@@SubjectE57 guess they are controlled by Hollywood studios and they can't say anything on their own.
Lol, almost like their day job is to learn scripts and recite them!
Wonder what Henry Cavill says
Man, if I trained 3 hours a day with no rest days I'd make it to about day 5 before my body gave out.
"Power Naps"
you people are weak i train 2 and half or 3 hours everyday no rest !!
Alan Mapuna Doing a set of 10 curls and scrolling through IG for 5 minutes between sets doesn’t count.
thats why they claimed they did that, so you cant prove them wrong because you couldnt do you, so it is not steroids
Not with a 10 million dollar check, you would train 10 hours per day
the placement of the tattoos in aqua man brings out the muscle definition, such as the dark lines under the chest
Yeah plus the angles and design add to n highlight
Note to self: screw steroids...get tattoos
@@HASH562 Fuck it, do both lad
He's got that Polynesia genetics , I've played rugby for years with Polynesians and they only have to look at weights to gain muscle
And fat 💀
nah
Exactly! Those people are naturally huge.
@@dimitrije018 got tren naturally flowing through them
He was obviously on gear, now that he isn't, you can tell his traps and shoulders have diminished a lot and he is looking fat/bloated in the new Fast and the Furious movie
Regarding the Hollywood overtraining routines, don’t you think they just tell them to say that so fans contribute the progress to this unsustainable routine vs anabolics?
That would be the logical conclusion, however, some "gurus" are so set in their ways that they will use decades-old principles and never do further research. We see this with doctors all the time. How can someone who spent almost a decade going to school not even understand basic endocrinology or nutrition? Well, we see it all the time.
@@MorePlatesMoreDates The Film Industry is fairly insular. Once a Fitness Pro is known to the Studio people who do the hiring and they can get the desired results with the talent they will just keep calling those same guys outdated, debunked protocols and all. Over and over again.
you can train like a fucking idiot if you're on steroids, since no matter what you do you'll build muscle. There are studies that took newbies and one group trained for 2 months while the other group didn't train at all but took steroids. The steroid users still built substantially more muscle. One person put on like 16 lb of muscle with no training at all.
@@MorePlatesMoreDates Yep. As ridiculous as these protocols sound it wouldn't surprise me that that's what they're actually telling these celebrities to adhere to. Now, whether they do or not as well as whether they also have "doctors" to prescribe them things like mast/deca/var or not... we may never know and so just have to go by our intuition.
Yup just bs, telling "the fans" the lies they want to hear. The sheep want to believe in a meritocracy..
How about Christian Bale?? In 2004 he lost 60 lbs for his role in The Machinist and after 6 months bulked up 100 lbs for Batman
he was really pudgy tho
I went from 215lbs to 170lbs in about six months of starving myself then moved back home and gained 70lbs in less than a year to my all time high of 240lbs....im back down to 220ish right now. Its crazy how quickly diet can transform the human body!!
When you don't cheat you have to eat alot and train alot to get results quickly.
When you starve yourself the rebound is real.
Hes done Christian bale and said he was natty
The fact that every celebrity seems to regurgitate the same "I trained for 5 hrs a day every day and only ate boiled chicken" makes me believe it's just a bs story they are told to say. Obviously it could be used as a cover to try and hide the use of drugs. But it could also be a combination of the trainers not wanting their training regimen being released for free as well as the studios wanting these actors to seem larger than life. X actor achieved this insane transformation because they were just so incredibly dedicated to this role and worked harder than anyone type of bs.
they basically all have the same set of trainers
Aaaquuaaa man.
Also the training regiments are BS. They just have to say that to please the normies because they adhere to the “more training more gains” principle. Real answer is not one they can give as you know.
Bacon Grease Fr lmao people dont thing over training is real also these Hollywood actors put on like 15lbs of muscle in 6 months while losing like 50 lbs of fat
Abel Castrejon yeah it’s pretty insane. At the end of the day people take their words it face value they do very little questioning. The same thing goes for fitness models and people in the fitness industry normies will watch them I just believe everything they say. It’s actually had an extremely damaging effect on the industry due to people trying so hard to get the bodies that they idolize only to find out that they don’t have a chance in hell whatsoever at accomplishing it and then they turn to steroids
@Stephen Murphy Aak-Waa Man
Ock-Wa Man
the fact they all say 3 to 4 hours everyday there all full of it
Yeah, I've heard that movie stars can actually get doctors to prescribe small amounts of steroids to them so they can legally take steroids in small doses until the roll is over.
6:11 "looks fairly muscular" lolol bruh cmon
Literally I'm sitting here like wtf. I'm 170 lbs 5'10 and It would take me years to even get close to looking buff.
@@Blazerghost same bruv
vestige the same arm size at 5’10 looks a lot bigger than at 6’4. I’m not sure you realize how much height distorts proportions.
@vestige idk what the fuck u guys talking about, momoa seems like a natural athetic dude, even in that shot he does indeed look fairly muscular, but nothing extraordinary
Love this channel but almost every physique is "sort of impressive," "fairly average for the normal man," "okay genetics, nothing out of the ordinary." I've yet to find an actor that he doesn't give backhanded compliment to.
I'm convinced that chicken broccoli and rice is just an inside joke for actors
A man named Jerry Branium said that he witnessed Arnold Schwarzenegger in the gym in the 70s and said that he trained no more than 2-2,5 hours 6 days per week 60-75 minutes in the morning and 60-75 minutes in the afternoon.
Three hours of weights a day, err yeah... Ah and chicken breast again, that's what's clever
what would be a good diet for that?
3 hours.....how would you even recover from that on gear....smdh
What would you actually be doing for three hours..
i remember Arnold saying the same shit total bs
dick butt I believe Arnold trained like that.
when Chris Pratt dropped all of his fat and got in shape, he did train that much BUT he will tell you he also ate 4000 calories a day while trying to cut from 285 pounds and 38% bodyfat down to 225 and about 14% bodyfat...he did 2 hrs of cardio a day and 1-2 hrs of weight training BUT he didnt give the bullshit chicken and broccoli line...he said he ate 4k calories on a paleo diet over a 7 month period...his is the most respected transformation and most legit/natural Ive seen in Hollywood in my opinion
And THAT is why he's with Arnie's daughter. OG Conan would rip his skin off for that sin.
I have always liked Chris Pratt. He is a genuine person.
@@tannera.3359 Arnie was a juicer himself
Chris evans is definitely legit too
@@vassilyvodka2638 because he was a Mr Olympia bodybuilder and he didn’t even use that much roids but the main reason they all took roids was so they could workout for longer and harder while allowing them to bulk while gaining a tad bit of fat
would agree the training protocols he describes sound like they wouldn't work. But one of the major factors is: Hes polynesian. I'm a former fitness professional in New Zealand (We have a large polynesian population) and by polynesian standards, hes pretty small. There are SO many j-j-j-jaackee polynesians it's crazy, they are natural athletes and dominate most domestic sports here in NZ and AU. I wouldn't be surprised to know hes natty based off my Polynesian friends I know and train with.
If you’re Polynesian or American Samoan male in the USA you have a 75% chance of being in the NFL
I mean the All Blacks are dominated by Polynesians too
Crazy
Polynesians tend to store a lot of body fat though if they don't work out.
I have never understood the "6hrs workouts + chicken and broccoli" deal.
When i first started working out i just trained with compounds twice a week for maybe 30 mins and just ate normal home-cooked food as much as I pleased.
Within 18 months I looked like a different person and I always stayed natural. (Always will too)
You don't need to go to extremes to make a transformation.. you just don't.
You meet diet to count calories
Progressive overload is vital
He looks legit natural.
Damnn Derek delivering us some frequent content... much appreciated bro
Jason Momoa has some of the best genetics I've seen.
He would have won many bodybuilding shows.
Aesthetics is different from muscle building genetics although they are connected. People can be "bodybuilder" big but still look like shit because of the way their muscles are shaped and that is completely aesthetics. Brad Pitt on Troy has the best chest/abs genetics I've ever seen for example.
He’s too tall
No, he wouldn't have been. You have to love lifting in order to do that. If what he says is true that he hates lifting and only does it to prepare for movies then he could never become a dedicated bodybuilder.
Agreed..When the alert for this video came through the first thing that came to mind was that you'd say he was natural..He's one of the few actors that get in awesome shape that I never even considered to be running gear..Good videos Sir..Everything you've mentioned in them seems spot on💯
Dude's hair and skin genetics are crazy too

The training is BS.
They just can't say: I eat alright and lift heavy for 1 hour.
They need to be Gods among men.
Also, if they are on gear, they can't openly say that, because it's frowned upon, for whatever reason.
When I started lifting, I did close to 3 hour workouts, 1 hour aerobics and 2 hours of weights.
It worked well for general weight loss, I was an overall newbie and massively overweight (270 lbs), but it took a toll, I lost both muscle and fat ( a lot of muscle).
Nowadays I do 1 hour weights and only do aerobics once a week for 1 hour, the truth is: Time spent is not the same as results.
2 hr weight is kinda bad if you do it every day no rest, literally the muscle will get more and more thin
Bro we getting close to 100k subs
Great work you deserve the success
Dude already had genetics on his side. 4 days of resistance training at about 60 minutes. 5 or 6 days cardio 45 to 60 mins. 1 full day of rest. High Protien, high fat, with no sugar carbs. Still, like I said, he has good genetics...whatever he does will work.
Agree. The tattoos made him look a bit leaner/bigger too
life hack, flattering tattoos
The inconsistency is fishy. A guy pushing 40 yo-yo-ing from 10-20% bodyfat and keeping/growing muscle is very indicative of cycling
He never gets super cut he always has a bulky look to him
These videos educated me so much, hope you keep doing these type of videos cause there really good and educational imo.
Suggestions for a next steroid cycle:
Tobey Maguire(Spiderman movies)
Vin Double Diesel(Riddick, XXX, Fast and Furious etc)
Chadwick Boseman(Black Panther)
Mark Wahlberg(pain and Gain, and Transformers 4 and 5 etc)
Christian Bale(Dark Knight Trilogy)
Zackery Levi(Shazam)
Aaron Taylor Johnson(Kick Ass and Avengers Age of Ultron)
Dolph Lundgren(Rocky 4)
Sylvester Stallone(Rambo, Rocky and Expendables movies)
Jason Statham(various action movies)
Chris Pratt(Jurassic World and Guardians of the galaxy)
Last but not least Thanos(Avengers 2-4 and Guardians of the galaxy)
Most informative channel on youtube. Really appreciate the content bro.
In the film industry there's usually a certain amount of time allocated for training, eg 6 hours which includes all types of activities including skills training, weights and discussions involving skills training.
Them Polynesians built different too
I have 40% polynesian in my dna acording to 23 and me. My frame must come from the other 60 percent lol
@JM depends on what you mean by big. Tallest country is netherlands, tallest ethnic group is somewhere in africa, kenya if im remembering correctly. But if were not just talking height then idk.

He's natural. This dude was damn near great shape before working out. His genetics are great.
He could implement drop-sets in certain exercises and train even less time with the same intensity.. I would love to see a break down from someone like Brad Schoenfeld on these Hollywood training philosophies. I agree with you that it really doesn't make sense.
Eating chicken breast is absolutely code and when he said that he was really telling everyone “gear” .... “it’s not good, but that’s how you get that body”
Agreed... Plus he has had the same muscle mass for a few years now, so he isn't losing it like a lot of other actors. He probably was on thermogenics right before filming.
The amount of work Derek puts in to his videos is amazing. No wonder he’s at half a million subs.
I don't even workout, but I find these videos so addictive
His hair makes his traps/delts look way bigger than they are
When he said 6 hours a day of training for the conan interview he mentioned it included choreography for fights and stuff
completely agree, if this guy was cycling he'd probably have a physique somewhere in the realm of dwayne the rock johnson
Probably better
No
As a natural with years/decades under my belt I agree with you in general. I have friends who are on gear and crazy strong (one being a female world record lifter), some being powerlifters. It's hard to judge him and he is on the cusp. He could be natural, good genetics, tan, tatoo placement, all help make him look better. But then again he might not be, it appears as though he does train hard. The only issue is it appears more cardo based training than weight training.
He was 40 when Aquaman came out. He was on cycle
His tattoos work against him in terms of how good his physique looks. It hides definition. If you're referring to how good he looks in terms of like... Artistically, okay granted if you like his tattoos.
One point to take into consideration: he's an islander
Half...
Congrats on 80K.
You'll be at 100k by May.
Before even April.
Dr. Greg has entered the chat
Haha gonna ask him about Jason to get a second opinion 😏
Greg will say jason is natural. He already claimed Sawyer Klatt (whos in gymshark) and Zion are natural whereas its so obvious that no 😂
@Michael Fraser 😂 1. Hes in the NBA (all top athletes are enhanced). 2. Hes like 250 lbs (thats his real weight because NBA exaggerates) amd you cant be so heavy even for 6'6 and even if he was an adult and even if he only focused on weightlifting and even if he had great genetics. I'm a genetic freak yet I only weighed 200 for 6'3 at 18 after a year of lifting. Zion, like Lebron, and like all other top athletes anyway, is on PEDs LOL
@@DCJayhawk57 😂😂😂😂 love you man ❤
What I find the most interesting is that the guy just lifts a bit of weights in his free time and then just climbs, hikes and surfs. That there is there is a win win combination if you ask me. Too many people are way too caught up in this "weightlifting über alles" thinking.
How else does one become the ubermensch? Hoist the heavy weights brah. Can you imagine Arnie in the original 82’ Conan if he just surfed and climbed and then came into that role? If you note, he didn’t do a lot of speaking. They purposefully put his physique out front, which did way more than dialogue would have. It’s a primal thing.

Love your content
I'm about 5 of your videos in and I've just realised its 'plates' and not 'pilates'. Makes much more sense considering your content :;D
Saying that they train 6 hours a day is just a way to hide the fact that they use gear. They have a physique that is not attainable naturally so they claim to use an extreme training regimen that no one can undergo
It's because they do not only lift weights, there's sword fighting training, lots of cardio and conditioning
Christian Bale when he bulked up for the original Batman (bulking up from an aneroid 65 kegs) said he lifted heavy weights and ate as much as possible.... self trained he got up over 100kgs
Love your channel. You tell it like it is and we need more content like yours. Please keep doing what you're doing
Akwa man😂😂😂😂 I love the way he said that
He has a pretty classic surfer physic with some good genetics. Take a look at some pictures from Surfer Magazine. I grew up in SoCal and that build is what you get when you surf daily and maybe add in some situps, pushups and pullups.
dude all celebrities exaggerate when they talk about their training to try to "explain" away their dramatic gains. they all juice. too obvious.
I think its like in ironman were the army needs to cover their tracks they have a boiler plate answer, "training exercise" which is equivalent to "chicken, broccoli, rice"
Do you have a video talking about diet and what to eat?
So agree! If it’s true then all these ‘stars’ seem to overtrain massively, more likely they say what the average joe thinks is impressive
Steven Adams really is talented
There is *one* point to be made for this workout and diet for Conan, that might well have been similar to what the actual character was doing in the story, fighting constantly and eating whatever he could catch 90% of the time.
Derek you always talk about mikro deficent diets. what would you consider a good diet with all mikros included ? A video on that would be actually pretty nice.
Check out my full day of eating I posted a while back
@@MorePlatesMoreDates I couldnt find that particular one...can you tell me how you named it ?
Jason looks looks so much like my late brother both in body and facial features. He had a large build and could put size really easily naturally. Me I’m the runt of the litter. I’ve always had to put so much effort to gain weight.
Not enough ads bro
Jason isn’t a gear head. He is below max peak for his dimensions. He also works out and trains relentlessly, don’t let his early career comments fool you.
I live in Hawaii. You need to take into account surfing regularly. When I surf a lot I tend to be thin/dense muscle. If I hit the gym for a month...I balloon up easy and I'm 55. People wonder how I grow so fast.
Eating chicken and broccoli is Hollywood's code for using gear. And I worked on a movie and the training amount is exasperated. And remember the actors don't have to do anything else then workout eat rest and acting no other things like everyone else has to do like working doing dishes the laundry no taxes or any other thing that takes away your freedom. He just has to do what ever he wants to stay fit like climbing which is great working out which feels great acting being some one else which is liberating riding a bike which is freeing etc etc etc.
For sure natural, his height and voice makes him seem bigger than he really is , he looks bad ass though

One of the few times Derek sound stereotypically Canadian is here where he says Aquaman.
How'd he go from a surfer Baywatch dude into some kind of gargoyle wolf

I'm willing to say no celebrity is Natty when it comes to being a superhero....they're SUPER heroes...
People also forget about camera angles and lighting. Look at Norton in American history x... People kept saying he got huge and he even said nope, worked out a bit but that whole movie is camera angles and lighting.
He didn’t train with weights but he is known to be an avid rock climber so he likely did a lot of body weight work related to that prior to weight training.
More Plates - DK Metcalf's physique (NFL receiver) would be very interesting to analyze to determine what is potentially achievable for an elite natural elite athlete. Please kindly consider this.
Michael Johnston NFL players are not natural.
I feel like my body could take more training when I first started working out. Three hours in the gym was possible. Not every day though. Once you get close to your natural potential it seems to do more harm than good because there's nowhere else to go without gear. I agree though, these Hollywood guys always stick to the same script.
9:25 Aquaman might be in ice water, but Jason Momoa is certainly in a room-temp pool on a set... =P
I think part of the reason they give scripted, generic answers is the trainers have trade ‘secrets’ some of it may be ‘gear’ but some of it is likely stuff they developed.
A great dude to listen to is Laird Hamilton, the surfer. He has a training gym that produces significant results. Not for physique but performance related results.
He’s also an amazing dude.
Don't forget that when mentioning visible abs, they put makeup on the abs and pecs to accentuate them. :-) In Momoa's case in this video, it's most evident in the still shot at 3:55; those broad "shadows" are clearly drawn on. Ha.
These celebrity’s workout more than professional athletes
Hes a pacific islander, they are naturally big, broad, muscular and athletic. If u watch rugby you will see this. They are built to play rugby. Scary big dudes and chicks lol
I’d really wanna hear how you’d recommend legitimately training for a role like this if you were one of these superhero actor’s trainers. Diet and workout
