WOW! That's me on piano and backing vocals.
What an amazing opportunity touring with Billy! Every night hearing 'Shirley' etc...
Then I went on to help out with his albums 'Don't Try this at Home'. He's a National Treasure, it was such a dream performing with him - such an inspiration!
Total respect!
I found this video from the weird side interview
That is such a wonderful thing for you to do. You sing beautifully. It is a delightful counterpoint to Billy.
@@herbertrichard614 THANK YOU Herbert! I remember the tour with super fond memories!
Wow, that’s fantastic! Do you do BVs on Don’t Try This at Home?
@@JonBridges66 Here yes, but on the record Carla Tivey sang the vocals! She was mega pregnant in 1988 so I got the chance to step into her shoes! Amazing!
Aw.. and me on cello.. bless us.. we were so young and raw.. lovely to see it x
Your cello on this is one of my favourite things ever. ❤
Aw.. Thank you kindly 🙏
While I've met Billy recently, haven't listened to these songs in ages. Found myself here by accident, realising how well they hold up and your contribution is remarkable. lovely playing.
🙏
Beautiful song and cello part ever on my heart since then . Greetings from Spain
Tender Comrade
Ex Serviceman here, Returned as well.
Not gay.
Standing in my kitchen balling my eyes out.
This man's a true gem.
Can't wait until my own kids, daughter and sons are old enough to explain the importance of such an amazing piece of work.
Been a Billy Bragg fan for nearly 30 years and never heard that song.
The Union makes us strong by the way.
Wow! Love it. Will be driving 300 miles in October to see him in Detroit. He’s a poet who just happens to play a great guitar.
absolute legend, and his songs are as relevant now as they ever have been.
Perhaps more
Silence = Death t-shirt in 1988. Amazing.
Gosh he was lovely then - I was 17 in 1988. I tell my eighteen year old daughter he was our Ed Sheeran :)
Ed Sheeran!!!!!
@@neilconnolly485 lol i know
Yeah. But with depth.
Ed Sheeran not even on same planet
Bragg is much deeper and socialist than sheerans silly “love” songs
This tour was the first time I saw Billy Bragg and Michelle Shocked live, not at Dominion though but a place in Stockholm. Good times!
Thank you to wunh 91.3 university of new hampshire for introducing me to this man and the great leap forwards back in 1988.Workers playtime album was in my collection the next day.I was fascinated by this strong english accent and tender heart felt words. When i hear this song 30 years later"the only one"how the memories fly me back to 20 years old.
Yep…similar story here. In the mid-‘80’s I was a student at Penn State (I was a BIG fan of The Clash and had grown up listening to my parent’s folk music) when I first heard Billy on campus radio WPSU. “Who is this guy that combines elements of punk with folk?!”, I wondered…I’ve been a fan ever since!
was in London at this time and a friend took me to see The Pogues live at a mosh pit concert and later that night i found out we coulda gone to see billy bragg and i just about lost my mind!!!
This era was Peak Bragg. He's had some good songs since then, but none of the albums since Workers Playtime had the same level of consistent quality.
True but a bad Bragg song is still better than most
In a league of his own.
Pretty much
Thank you so much for sharing this great pearle of good old 80ies ...
Oh god. I’m home sick for the 80’s. This is GREAT.
Saw him around this time in New Zealand.. so good, I’ve been a fan since I first heard him. Now I’m sharing his music with my own teenager who’s loving it too!!
Frank Turner takes me back to Billy Bragg a little bit. That said, Billy's poetry got me through college from 87 to 91.
Turner is a weird libertarian tho
Great gig to see. Still got ,my ticket stubb
Lovely. Thanks for posting, I'll be watching this again
Wow , "tender comrade" is .....overwhelming
I'd completely forgotten how good he was (/ is) - thanks for the reminder!
IS
I saw him first in 1988. STILL the best gig I have ever been to. This is the reason why.
The love I have for this man is real.
Amy Goddard well said billy is megggggga
Wonderful
I saw Billy in the spring of 88 (New London). Awesome concert. I love seeing video from that era. Thank you.
Unless our Bill motivated you to actually spend an hour a week helping the weak, you didn't get the message. You've got time for Ted Lasso? You've got an hour to spare for the downtrodden. And, Lorraine -- you are a gift to the world. Delighted to hear your contributions.
No idea who ted lasso is but your comment has pricked my conscious. I'm off to spend an hour making a difference. Thanks
Thank you for the list of songs.
this is so fkin amazing I've seen billy live he's fkin fab I've meet him in person in Ireland fk wat a genius he's are own Springsteen
Thats like a fine wine ❤
That mime/dancer guy on "Waiting for the Great Leap forward", he's so good it makes me wanna cry. No, not wanna, I just do...
I was at that tour - Newcastle gig. One of about 40 BB gigs I’ve been to. Back soon, hopefully.
I saw that tour at Warwick Arts Centre. Great stuff, truly great stuff.
Yes, You are the only one, Billy
Saw him in Boston that year with same lineup and Michelle Shocked. As David Letterman told him: "I'd give a month's pay to talk like you."
David Andrews great comment im from UK we all talk like billy over here
Me too. In Toronto. It was a great show.
great post always admired billy bragg
beautiful
I think I was in the audience, I was a broke London student bedist wall plastered with talking to the taxman poster and I had the same haircut. Plenty to be ashamed of from that period BB not one of them though, I'm not interested how nice his house in Dorset is as long as he pays his taxes and keeps on keeping the bastards honest.
@Sawyer Casey ..........cool............
@Billy Clark Not really related, but always nice to join in
Great man. The only one is a favorite of mine.
13:12 Dancing man!!!
Thanks so much for this.
I love this so much! 💙
the second song is OMG beautiful ---"""---

Piotr Maciejewski well said ✅
Stewart Sanders thank you
@@stewartsanders7087 Very well said
awesome
Got some Billy Bragg on vinyl, ages ago... :-)
Is that a Life Sentence T-shirt (Chicago hardcore) that the percussionist is wearing? It surely looks like one!
Justin beiber billions of views my god what's up with people this is pure genius
✍️👍
i love him i think
yea
i fink i might of seen a bb tour this year but i would like to see pre 90s

Eugene Unger h
billy god bragg
8:43 omg it’s Lorraine Bowen omg
Seen him twice in Glasgow
Would you like to
live in a land where soap was lather? great lyric
"There is nothing safe in watching TV." Good. TV costs $100/mo. in my city. That's okay because if I hear people talking I like having the choice of speaking back.
I was his body guard during a signing
Sigh. 😍
The second song would make an angle weep ---""'----
Michael Franti at the end?
and the ladies in the cloakroom take no notice of me
Superior to Springsteen and quantifiably meaningful, songs about society not trite crap about nothing .....
I love Bruce but Billy and his lyrics are beyond comparison. He affirms what it was to be 20 in 90
Superior to Springsteen erm no billy has about 4 great songs
@@alantracy6757 different artists . Bragg streets ahead politically , I’d take Any song off his first two albums over born to run in the USA 🙄
I’m a fan of both….Springsteen has a LOT of songs about “real” things…especially his more recent stuff. Check out “Ghost of Tom Joad”!
Left right breathe
23:30 Michael Franti!
Is that who the dancer is? He's so good!
Who's that on the cello?
who's the clown? was he part of the show or just a punter?
13:52 Morrissey (with his glasses on) ?? 🙄
Nope
Wow. Morrissey is a scum bag
sure it was 92
The lack of any material from Don't Try This at Home makes that highly unlikely.
Cannot escape Capitalism when the adverts on here are for resistance supporters. like, buy your jacket here! Aargh!
No skin in the game. Pretty much shit, but still my left blow is in the game . . . O wait!
That's about it. He has a big bum. It takes more than good intentions and a big bloke at the door to get inside. I never wanted inside so I don't pretend to know what it takes. But he has a big bum. This is proved by TV.
