Thank you for the fantastic guide Lutro0, this guide game me the confidence to sleeve my CoolerMaster Silent Pro 600W PSU (Semi-Modular) and it looks incredible now. I wish I had done this ages ago, especially considering how easy and cheap it is. I bought 100ft of White Paracord about 3ft of heatshrink and a lighter, and it only cost me about £15/$20 including shipping, and I still have about 20ft of paracord left. I did it differently to how others have done Semi-Modular PSU's though, I opened up the PSU and sleeved right to the inside of the PSU on the 24pin and 8pin, it was a tight fit getting the PSU back together, but with a bit of fernaggling it went together perfectly without needing any modding to the PSU casing, I used the heatshrink on the inside of the PSU and on one end of the SATA power because I had no easy way of doing heatshrinkless for that one, but the 24pin, 8pin and PCI-e 6pin were all heatshrinkless. I'm not 100% happy with the SATA cable, because of the heatshrink not being exactly equal, but to be fair it was my first time, and apart from that it looks great :) I also didn't crimp new cables, I just used the existing cables and sleeved them as is. I might do our lasses rig next, but in Purple and Red instead, and then fit some of those Corsair AF120 QE in Purple to match. Cheers Lutro0!
hey lutro0 and other youtubers... i followed pretty much same process, but i done it how you do the mdpc heatshrinkless (by using heatshrink to melt). i find this to be a little better. yes it does "melt the crud out of it" as you put it, but its a good solid hold and if youre consistent, they all look the same. very easy process. thanks for the guides!
Thanks for the kind words Jay. I do get pleasantly surprised on a constant basis when I have people in countries I have never heard of contacting me for help or products. But I never intended to seek fame or money, I am just happy that people are getting the info that they need and are not wasting their money on bad products or getting frustrated with their results.
Very nice. I prefer this look but as they say, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' It appears practice and patience is needed for this task. Excellent video.
I have watched your vids so many times and each time you learn something new that you didnt pick up the first time. great guides, maybe you should do an entire PC mod video?
You should maybe consider using an insulated cover for the end of the sleeving! I have seen some other cables which have been sleeved and they had a rubber/ Plastic? end which insulated the sleeve I think they was shrunk around the sleeve with a heat gun to keep it tight :)
The reason for the two methods, is paracord will melt evenly if you use the lighter right, this way it will provide more then enough tack onto the wire. The reason that using heatshrink looks good is because it distributes and squeezes the melt all the way around, however this is needed for plastic sleeving as it will just curl up into individual strands if something is not holding it into place. With paracord you should be able to save yourself an extra step and some extra cost.
No you have to keep the same voltages, you can mix if you keep that in mind but some psu units are picky and wont start even with the voltages being right. The missing pin is normal, some use it and some dont. Its just the standard atx pin out.
Can you do a tutorial on how to sew the wires together so they don't spread out? There was a guy on youtube that did a video, but it wasn't informative at all. Maybe using heatshrinks to keep them bundled up? I'm not sure, please review! :)
Its hard to show whats going on without lighting the camera on fire. But the most important shots were visible and the method explained in extreme detail. Perhaps I will come back and redo one if others feel they cannot get the method from the video but only you have said this so far. If there is anything you need help with please feel free to send me a msg. =)
Great videos lutro0! I just ordered everything i need for my new project I'm getting ready to do my AX750 and all my cords are black and look to be the same gauge. do they have to be in the exact port/order they were originally or i can mix an match as long as i have all the ports filled? and my 24 pin is missing a pin like right in the middle of the connector is this normal?
Just placed an order and plan on working on my cables this weekend. However, I have one question. My 24 pin (OCZ ZX 1000) has some wires that do not go 1-1. Eg, on the ATX side it's 3 pins from the left, on the PSU side it is 5 pins from the left. What are your recommendations on these kind of cables?
Is there any good guides to removing pins on the motherboards 24 pin connector i have been trying but im worried im going to pull the cable out of the pin.
hey lutro0 or anyone else here for that matter i was looking at paracord last night when i came across this multicolored blue black and white paracord it looked cool on the website but will multicolored paracord look good i a pc? or should i go for the solid colored paracord
I personally have never been a fan of cable sewing, but I know there is a few different guides out there. At this time I don't believe I will do a guide on it, but that might change.
Hey lutr0 , I've been watching all your videos. Love the way you explain. But when I made an extension 8pin the wires overlap each other after I bend them :-( . I am using 45cm length for all wires (inner and outer )and it does not look like the one you made it the video. Suggest me the length of the inner wire ? I hope I explained you my question.
The inner wires have to be shorter then the outer on extensions. its a small amount that changes with the length of wire. I would just start trying out different lengths and you will quickly get it.
Hey lutro0 ,Very nice videos.. I have been following your Heatshrinkless Paracord method and so far I have been doing great. However I have a Corsair AX 850 which has some pretty strange cables. For example: on the psu side there are 2 cables that need to go in the same connector hole and on the other side (pci e) it's 1 cable and the other goes into a different connector.. How can I fit both wires in one hole without using a heatshrink?
You need to use heatshrink, specially on double wires. The best method is the one I show in the video on how to do double wires. This has been the best and most used method out there.
How secure is the paracord without heatshrink? Because most cables are long enough, but the 8pin will go around some tight corners. Will it let go if the corners are tight and the cable comes under stress. Btw, i'm using a AX860i and Corsair C70 case. The 8pin just fits.
I guess that is where zip ties come into play :) By the way, I have two orders that haven't shipped yet. Do you have the status on them? #1923 and #1928. Cheers!
Hey, thanks for the video. Suggestion for future videos though, get a cameraman to track the motion that your doing (and maybe manually focus) so you spend less time worrying about it. And don't put a dark colour join (between the white boards) in the centre of your shot as the camera will automatically try to focus that and have trouble when you try and zoom in later. Thanks again!
Hi Lutro0 - I've bought some, wire, sleeving, pins etc. I cut them to 30cm for a modular cable rather than an extention. Plugged it into my Corsair CX750M + GTX 770 Superclocked. I noticed a static sound/spark from the PSU & Something on my GPU went up in smoke (possibly an electrical protector as the card is still working.) I was wondering if with modular cables, Female to Female, they is a specific way of wiring these up? I watch your videos so if you can give me any info that would be great :) Thanks, Vince
I like how the most difficult and frustrating part of heatsinkless paracord sleeving, how to get the paracord to stick without using heatshrink, is moved out of the camera.
DeliciousPho It does, but 550 paracord is a mil-spec (military specifications) thing, where anything sold as "550 paracord" should meet those specifications.
550 Paracord will not, infact they do not make a paracord that will. If you are sleeving with paracord the best solution hands down is to get bitfenix sata cables as they will match as they use a nylon like material.
P.S. the word for pulled tightly is Taut, not Taunt :). I'm not a grammar nazi and don't care that much but taunt is also a word. Love your videos dude, your expertise is amazing, watched this like 5 times while sleeving my PSU!!

I am glad that the guide helped! Paracord is slightly harder to learn but once you got it down you can sleeve anything.

Wow that video is such high quality I thought it was shot like a month ago. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge !
After watching your video I finally figured out how to sleeve with the paracord you sold me.. Looks AWESOME now that I know how to do it..
Been doing awesome! Back is finally healing and getting back to lots of work.
One day I plan on it. Lots of things changing for Lutro0 Customs so keep on the lookout.
Very nice. I prefer this look but as they say, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' It appears practice and patience is needed for this task. Excellent video.

My man! Lutro0 is back!
Checking in from 2020, this video is still helping, thanks!
I'm just glad they are still helping people. Thanks for the nice words. =)
2016 still helping. thank you.
Omg just saw you had a store. You basically have everything that i've been looking for on ebay!!! And you ship to Australia! You sire, are awesome.
You should maybe consider using an insulated cover for the end of the sleeving! I have seen some other cables which have been sleeved and they had a rubber/ Plastic? end which insulated the sleeve I think they was shrunk around the sleeve with a heat gun to keep it tight :)

Are your wires different lengths to account for the curve? If so, how much of a difference in length is there?
thanks to your videos im now sleeving my cables with paracord....
awesome!
Your videos are always very informative THANKS!!!

How much longer do you make the outer cables on a connector to get that beautiful natural curve you have?
I'm just curious, do you use the wires from the PSU or buy other ones. and is it necessary to have the same colour cable in the exact spot
hey lutro0 can you tell if 550 paracord will fit over a stat data cable ends? and thanks for the videos they have helped a lot..
Its hard to show whats going on without lighting the camera on fire. But the most important shots were visible and the method explained in extreme detail. Dude, thank you so much for this video. Followed and got a great result, now if only I'd trained my 24 pin the RIGHT WAY! Damn.
hey lutro sometimes the paracord 550 won't allow me to put the pin all the way back into the connector. what am I doing wrong?
Yup, that is the traditional way. I have videos on that method as well. However this is the method without it and its not really needed.
So, is paracord easier to work with than plastic sleeving?
do you make the cables or do you buy them and sleeve then your self?
hey lutro0 or anyone else here for that matter i was looking at paracord last night when i came across this multicolored blue black and white paracord it looked cool on the website but will multicolored paracord look good i a pc? or should i go for the solid colored paracord

and how many meters of sleeving is needed for 1 power supply?
it is indeed, but you will have to tape them correctly so it slides all the way through otherwise it will snag.

It is actually stronger then just hs

Would this method work with the MDPC sleeving?
No you would need to use heatshrink to make the tack as MDPC and most plastic types will fray when you apply heat.
Hi Lutro0 - I've bought some, wire, sleeving, pins etc.
I cut them to 30cm for a modular cable rather than an extention.

You should have looked at your original psu cables first. Draw a layout plan, the cables might cross themselves.
Cheers I got it working in the end, I'll just buy them in future XD
Vinny 200 lol XD
Which paracord to use for 16 awg?
Hi Lutro how u been doing?
What is the name of that yellow colored paracord?
Goldenrod I believe.
can you do a guide on it please.
i just want to ask what diameter of paracord i need for my EVGA PSU?
Thank You
+rodelblenda 550 pound paracord
Awesome I look forward to that day!
haha "happy sleeving" Thanks man and that sounds like a great theme.
I cannot get the paracord to melt properly :( it melts but I cant get it to form to the point where it stops moving. so frustrating
I agree, I've been trying for a few nights and I'm only just barely starting to get it.
What diameter is this paracord?
5:42 do you shave your hands?
the bob ross of sleeving
cant wait to start my project
gonna be full sleeving two psu's
black/gold
black/neon green
Can you just pull the paracord's core out?
yes you can!
lutro0 YEAAAAA I'll get some paracord soon!!
lutro0
Huge props for showing how to do this! I will support you and all my cables from you. Do you make sata, USB3 Case power supply selves as well?
Yes we do!
I like how the most difficult and frustrating part of heatsinkless paracord sleeving, how to get the paracord to stick without using heatshrink, is moved out of the camera.
Thanks man! I appreciate that.
you can even use hollow shoe lace, but paracord is always the better option
I'm using shoelace because I didn't want to order anything lol
I follow pretty much the same way, except...I pull the paracord a little tighter..
Nice tutorial
That is the key to get them to form the way you want, had these been for a customer I would have yanked on them a bit more. =P
This colour scheme would go well on the new Asus MB colour scheme.
You have to use your fingers to form it slightly.
Great Video
Why is there no male dupont on the store?
thanks for the video
I thought 550 refers to how much weight it can hold
DeliciousPho It does, but 550 paracord is a mil-spec (military specifications) thing, where anything sold as "550 paracord" should meet those specifications.
love ur vids!
i use 1 leather glove to touch the melted paracord, dont feel anything and i have my fingerprints.
550 Paracord will not, infact they do not make a paracord that will. If you are sleeving with paracord the best solution hands down is to get bitfenix sata cables as they will match as they use a nylon like material.
It sure is, but take it with a grain of salt as all paracord is braided differently. Only the Mil Spec would I trust to lift stuff.
Those cables you are just at the mercy of the oem maker. You just clean it up at the show end the best you can and hide the rest.
Hey Mike :)
YESSSS!
I may stick with this intro for a while. =)
I custom make all of my cables from scratch.
If you work it more you should get it close.
Dubstep!
When you hiccup and burp I HATE those. I call them Hiccaburps. Burpicups also sounds silly :)
P.S. the word for pulled tightly is Taut, not Taunt :). I'm not a grammar nazi and don't care that much but taunt is also a word. Love your videos dude, your expertise is amazing, watched this like 5 times while sleeving my PSU!!
i love you
A lot of you work is off camera, you really need to show everything being done. Have a look at this video man, you will see what i mean.
Please please please please please please re-upload with proper camera work, this is killing me.
i was gonna say the same thing lol
