This is the Data Sata Cable Sleeving Guide to the sleeving series I have started to promote sleeving of PSU and computer cables in general. And help everyone sleeve a bit better!
This video will show you how to sleeve a Data Sata Cable with MDPC Sleeving. Other types of sleeving can be used, but you will need to take in consideration the melting point of the heatshrink as well as the diameter. This is also true for the sleeving as well.

Yes please! A crimping tutorial would be awesome. I don't know how many fan crimps I've wasted and I still don't have that down. It's probably my failing eyesight. *grumbles about getting old*
Don't say that you're wasting peoples time. It's great that you're methodical and do a full complete tutorial. Much better than a 2 min quickguide which you have to pause and repeat over and over to see what's going on. Thanks for all the sleeving guides, and I'll be looking forward to a guide on crimping.
Best in the business. I'm proud to say with confidence, and personal experience, that people with OCD are always the best people to do the highest quality detailed work. That's not to say having OCD is fun since sometimes it can be agonizing to always feel to need fufill your compulsions.
You're an incredible teacher and very awesome at what you do!
Thank you for sharing this with us!
This is incredible man! I have never found any similar guides on Chinese websites and you do a really brilliant and detailed job! I would try sleeving my SATA cables this weekend and hopefully I can do as good as you can!
good video regardless of the time. You were the one to take time out of your day to help others.
Thanks for the kind comment!
bro, im from indonesia. thanks for ure tutorial, maybe this week i will try.. u help and give me much idea
Yup I have seen those. I used to use an jig - but with how many of these I have done I can eyeball it and use the method I did and it works great. Also sometimes I put a slight bow on them so they dont shrink unevenly.
We also sell a fully adjustable jig in our shop, its a bit more but will last.
This helped ton, thanks! Subbed, due the good videos in humour-section too. Mostly when I see +30 minutes video, I think "booooooring" but your videos are so entertaining and same time educating & instructive.
Very nice detailed guide man.Look forward into more of your sleeving guides.Cheers!
Awesome! Love you attitude, thanks for your time, passion and sharing all these with us!
It really warms the heart to see people like you around. Have a good one and yes, please keep it coming, excellent work! ;D
excellent videos mate, have really enjoyed watching your guides and learning new things, am going to give sleeving my pc in the next couple of months, will deffinately refer back to your guides. Thanks again and God bless. oh and MOLEX! haha :P
I like your videos cause you show everything which can happen to us VERY GOOD JOB
Thanks so much for all the great videos and The how to order on MDPC-X. keep up the great work and I'm so glad I finally found your website.
That unknown blue-ish color cable is UV Blue. I have a few of those in an old rig I built.
Thank you for this video as it has given me another option for my new machine build.
Great job on all of your tutorials !
Good video! I just got a pair of Sennheiser headphones, and I'm thinking about grabbing an extra cord and doing a little project like this to make it more travel friendly. I love stuff like this, thanks for the video brother!
Heatshrink is under heatshrink and sleeve is under specialty PET.
The materials in the video were MDPC and can be ordered from his shop. =D
Yeah Lutro's guides are very detailed
Hi, Lutro0. Thanks so much for uploading so many sleeving guides. Are you planning on uploading a sleeving tutorial for SATA power/molex cables?
I've wanted to start sleeving for some time now but the lack of good and detailed SATA power sleeving guides is holding me back. :(
Thanks.
Got me some MDPC sleeving and heatshrink this morning, gonna see if I can't make a good job of my sata cables. On a right-angle connector, would you suggest sliding the heatshrink on from the other end? Seems like it might be a little easier than getting it over the 90° bend.
But thanks for the tutorials, very handy! Mmmmmolex.
Yup I would put it on the other side, it would be kinda hard on the 90 degree side.
A heatgun is pefered because it does not bring too much direct heat to the shrink and sleeve as a lighter would do. With a lighter you most propably burn and melt the shrink as well as the sleeve. If you want good results you better go for a heat gun.
Great job man. Excited to do this on my next rig.
hey dude you rock! I'll email you my rig when it gets hot enough cause at that point I'll be building a water cooling system.
Amazing work & vids, absolutly love your new innovations like the heatshrinkless sleeving.
I have a question, you siad that you did not like the little curve on the shrink, why did this occur, was it because it was not perfectly straight when cut? maybe a guilotine or custom made tool like a guilotine woule get perfect cuts?
Mark
You can do both, but its hard to find heatshrink that will fit and shrink down all the way, perhaps mdpc sata white would work.
You say to tape the cable white for a better look, would heat shrinking the whole cable white underneath work or would it become too stiff? Also nice work with these tutorials, they have helped me make a pretty sweet tidy rig.
If you were doing white sleeving Newegg sells silver sata cables that would look good under white sleeving.
Yes that would, also a thin layer of white electrical tape works wonders.
Would help if you gave the size of the sleeve material and the size of the heat shrink
Cool tutorial though it is possible to use a paper guillotine to cut the heat shrink. Keep up the good guides. Sorry I edited the comment as it came out wrong.
no worries, i went through a few methods over the years and a sharp large blade with a stationary guide always helped.
Would it be possible to use a hair dryer with say a adapter that focuses the heat a little bit to do the same thing as a heat gun?
what is size of the white sleeve and the shrink , thank you awesome job
Great guide, thank you! Do you sell this particular heatshrink and sleeve stuff? If yes, could you pass on the exact specifications of each, dimensions, etc. I just fail at figuring out the skus I need to do the same! Thx
Do you need a heat gun? or can you just use long gas lighters? for lighting ovens and what not?
i only thought people pimped their psu cables. this was new and gave me some ideas. good video dude, thanks. what diameter of heatshrink and sleeve are u using for this?
I did check your store, but was unable to find the exact product you used for these sata cables. I would need the dimensions of sleeves and other specs if it's not too much trouble.
what is the right diameter for the heat shrink for SATA cable ?
And for regular sleeving, is 1/8" heatshrink ok for the job ?
Sadly probably not. Most hair driers cannot get hot enough to shrink the HS fully and also melt some of the plastic under it. However a heatgun is cheap both at my shop or a local hardware store. Just make sure you get one with a reducer nozzle.
Are you going to have a guide on the SATA power cables?
These vids are gold.
hi, thx for video (old but still usable :) ) . Can you tell diameter of heat shrink and sleeve?
Could you also use a lighter for the heatshrink?
@muppenz Thanks for the kind comment bud!
Ive got a phone charger that is super ugly the plug is about as big as a sata cable but the cable is less fat should i get sata sleeving or can i force regular sleeving over the plug are all mdpc sleeves that elastic
thanks for tutorial, i was looking for that all day :D
Thanks much for the time you took to make these videos and showing how to get a good sleeving job done. Might I be so bold as to suggest that you get a pair of Vise Grips, Yes I did say Vise Grips :) and some Gorilla Tape, yup Gorilla Tape :) and wrap the Jaws of the Vise Grip with the Gorilla Tape, SO you don't get the Jaw marks from the Vise Grips on your sleeving / Cable and it would help with Not Crapping the Fingers. Just an Idea Yes ? No ? Maybe? & subbed Thanks again.
I use 8mm or 10mm sleeving and 1/2in HS from my shop.
You can use a lighter but a heatgun would be prefered for these jobs - moreso if you use colored shrink you need to use a heatgun to not scorch it.
As you said: there is indeed a way to cut this a whole lot easier if you had rotated the tube 180 on the ruler. measure from 0 and directly cut it.
Or you could use a white Sata cable that you can easily find on frozencpu
Lutro0, why don't you sell any other colours of heatshrink in your shop other than black? Am I just stupid enough to not find the other colours?
great video! quick question, on mainframe they only offer the tellios sata sleeving in 1 foot length, how come?
You sir are an artist. Any chance of getting that SATA power cable, just about the last one left :)
We do sell them. email sleever@lutro0customs.com
i just want to ask what diameter of paracord i need for my EVGA PSU?
Thank You
if you dont want to spend the money on a heat gun, tho there are some pretty inexpensive ones. a lighter will work
This is only the second of your tuts I have hit thus far, but I notice you never use a heat knife. Rather you will snip the ends and then singe with a lighter. Is there any reason you do not use a heat knife?
Yes, a heat knife will melt too much of the sleeve. When I use a snips and a lighter I can also feather the sleeve to a more narrow diameter without having it stick. Infact when I use teleios I normally dont even use a lighter to melt the ends as it will hold fine.
what sized sleeving and heat shrink do you use for sata data cables??....
please could you tell me what size sleeve and shrink you use
thanks
Is the heatshrink necessary? What if I just slide the cable in the sleeve and that's it, let it be slightly loose?
It would look terrible, and it needs something to hold it down.
Would it be possible for you to give us exact measurements for jig?
The jig can be made any way you want. Just make sure the width is wide enough for your heatshrink and at least 15mm length to be cut. 15mm is the normal length for heatshrinkstyle and works perfect for heatshrinkless as well.
lutro0
Thank you for info
+lutro0 Very clean job guy. blue thumb
Thanks, this is a great tutorial!
(if a bit all over the place xD)
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to share this info, it really helps. Is there a reason why you did not use Super Glue on the ends like you did with the fan cables?
I normally do, just didnt for this video as it can be messy for people starting out. But I always use it when I make cables for others
What size heat shrink are you using? And do you have a link to where you’re purchasing the sleeving
Wow! amazing Vidz sir. keep up the good work! 3 thumbs up!
I think I'll buy a pre sleeved sata data on this one
What size heat shrink do you use?(In MM, the whole inch thing is confusing)
thanks for the awesome guide !
Never mind, I learned how sleeve and create custom SATA power cables.
What size sleeving do you use for the data cables?
Subbed, gonna try it ! :D thx for all the guides!
Can you get heat shrink in other colours or only in black because of it heat properties.
+Harry Ford he showed a white one , I think there's heat shrink in any color
can you do this with hair blower?
Thanks for the video - very helpful :)!
hello friend. Can you tell me what kind of sleeve do you use, and what dimensions? Thnx
If you check my faq on OCN it will give you at least a starting point. I do plan on doing a few videos for that as there is many methods.

Thanks! I'll have to try , Great tutoral
what size was your sleeving that you used for the sata cable?
i wish lustroo sold premade custom cables where you can define the length and sleeving on the site and have it sent to you, i'd pay high price for some cables tbh.
great video, helped alot!
what diameter the sleeve?
What's the name of the equipment you use to create the hot air to heat the black hose?
lMyGames its a heatgun
quincy fleuren Thx :)
Hot air gun
awesome job!
where can one find O.D. Green SATA Cable Sleeving?
Do you ship to Denmark?
Hey Lutro0 can you show a power SATA sleeving guide? Thanks!
Yup it is in the works!
I sure do!
@lutro0 do you ship internationally to middle east?
how long does that jig make the heatshrink?
I believe that one was set up for a little bit under an inch. I normally use about an inch or less for sata cables. I also use a tiny bit of brush on super glue on them as well for durability when we make them for customers. This allows them to be a bit stronger and not have to use long pieces of heatshrink. I also sell a adjustable jig in my shop (link in the description)
So I cant't just slip it over the cable?
Thanks buddy!
Thanks, Great Video.
What size sleeving and heat shrink did you use?
8mm sleeving, 1/2" heatshrink
cheers dude!
1:2 or 1:3 heatshrink?
@BigJayDogg2009 I plan on doing a full series on just those here very soon, I have been battling some back problems so it might be a little while.
haha... the actual sleeving doesn't take long. But explaining it sure does.
what kind of sleeving is that.
4:36 cracked me open, "have, have.. yeeeesh-__-"
