Cause GW had to reset the lore in the middle of 8th edition because they accidentally set it in like 100-200 years in the future so they backpedaled. So 9th edition (aka the Necron edition) became the Plague Wars. So now every edition will be one ahead of the lore

We used to have the whole lore of Necrons being connected to the cult mechanicus, that now seem to be ignored.
It is also, how Necrons is being used as the great danger by other factions, but we do not really get Necrons own view point. So, they are treated more as a natural phenomena, than a actual faction.

I think Trazyn in tandem with the possibility of new god Vashtorr/new faction in dark mech via the nexus which Necrons are at the centre of means Necron players are going to be eating good in the coming years! I think we’re building to a major internal conflict between the different forces of chaos:
We have Be’lakor, the Thousand Sons, and The Red Corsairs all who either oppose Abadoon or Vashtor or both.
We have then Abaddon, the World Eaters, and Vashtor who have been working together.

Tyrannic war is all about a tendril of tyranid invading. I'm working under the assumption that this is just the "tip of the spear" so to speak. All of the tyranids we've fought so far were just the initial landing forces and we're in for much much much worse to come.

Their timeline is all over the place, even with the rewrite of the DI books. And throwing another conundrum in, they’ve changed it again; the latest Dark Angels book (coinciding with Arks of Omen the Lion), Enmity’s Esge, puts the timeline firmly 100 years into M42, meaning they’ve retconned the retcon.
This evidently picks up where 9th began. Arks of Omen happened, hence Vash.

Like I'm a huge Necron fan and love the Civil War idea between Imotekh and the silent king, but man adding in the imperium/admech, now chaos, and sprinkles of Ork and Thousand Sons. Feels like it just draws away from more important things. Games Workshop couldn't figure out what to do with other races lore and they needed to be doing something, so they just crammed them in. Really wished they would have just focused on 2 sides of the story, the Necron Civil War being the A plot and Imperium/admech vs Chaos being the B plot with them sometimes crossing paths. Or better yet just let this be a Necron story, and let the Imperium focus on something else like I don't know the 4th tyrannic war? I guess the nids wasn't as big of a threat as we all thought.

For instance, why didn't he just swap cadia turning it into a demon planet? Because of the way the warp works he always existed, so why were the pillars ever effective? Starting out with his arks of omen which allowed him to create wyrmwood which could be currently sustaining him at least until he can find the super weapons. I'll throw out a potentially hot take - I think GW and a sizable amount of the fan base are making a huge mistake when they treat properties like 40k as stories. 40k is a setting, not a story. It is a framework from which individual stories can be couched in. When you treat 40k as a story which needs to progress in and of itself, you wind up in a situation where you risk damaging or dismantling the framework of the setting.
For point of reference, instances of potentially, or outright, damaging 40ks framework include Primaris Marines (or 80% of anything Cawl gets up to to), bringing the Primarchs back, literally splitting the galaxy in two, the Silent King returning and the Necrons fully waking up, and the Ynnari (concept is fine, execution was atrocious).

@@TheCasualMark I'm not saying that change is inherently bad, just that people need to be mindful of what is changed and how. Change can be a beneficial thing when done right. The necrons, for example, benefited massively from moving away from their more strict characterization as soulless murder bots. The murder bot angle still exists, mind you, but now they have a more fleshed out culture and character thanks to higher ranker necrons retaining personalities. Tau being split between Tau proper and the Tau enclaves is also welcome change since it adds more depth to the faction.
A large part of the broader problem, I think, stems from the fact that people often forget just how big the setting in question is. There's a literal galaxy of stuff and most of it is either poorly explored or not explored at all. All ignoring that stuff does is make the setting feel drastically smaller than it is as only the same handful of elements endless crop up (i.e. Cadians, the old Ultramarine problem, etc etc).

This Vashtorr stuff is such bullshit. Only logical end is literally any random Necron Overlord turns up and kicks his shit in.
A Demon turns up INSIDE THE PARIAH NEXUS and is strengthened by Necron technology which is literally the opposite of warp empowering or even being active in the warp. Vashtorr is a little piss baby to the Necrons if GW want to show the least bit of respect to the lore. Their role was always obviously as that of the bulwark to the other massive world ending threat; the Tyranids, who ultimately are the Necron's greatest enemy. Having a Chaos Demon of Low-as-fuck Tier Technology as their enemy is an absolute joke.

Oh boy I can't wait for my new edition of Black Library slop where the pee pee faction fights the poo poo warband for stupid and inconsistent reasons that will have zero bearing on the tabletop or even the lore going forward, and will inevitably get retconned anyway by some hack and then told it was always that way 🙄 No idea why anyone would care about the lore and its continued Marvel-ication

  • @PandaCool1

Y’all really surprised that the lore ONLY SERVES selling minis? Look what they did to Horus Heresy, female Custodes, rewriting Damocles crusade outcome time and time again - established world and lore doesn’t mean SHIT for GW. Their universe is enticing, but their lore’s becoming incoherent mess. This is my biggest issue with Warhammer 40.000 and this I dropped playing that game.
Oh and saved a lot of money.

Not a huge fan of how the "story" is progressing. For years the game was stuck in the last century of the 41st Millenium and now galaxy shaping shit is happening at neckbreaking speed.
It really fucks up the whole concept of the "declining stagnation" of the setting. I don't mind change and story developments but it's all a tad much and very poorly handled.
