That bridge on the first red guitar is an Ibanez original edge. Bc rich usa used an unbranded Ibanez edge trem on many models in the mid to late 80s. The bar is a standard edge bar that you can easily find.
I was coming to say the same thing. How can we trust any information about this guitar from someone who doesn't even know the bridge was an Ibanez Edge? You're not "looking high and low" for a replacement bar, they are right on Amazon if you want one.
Allow me to straighten the history out a bit, the ST-III didn't come until late 86 into 87, Dave started with BCR in 86. the "III" in ST-III stands for 3rd Generation, as it was the 2nd spinoff of the ST, not the 3 switches ....
I learned something about my favorite guitar! My grandmother gave me a Warkock platinum series trans. dark blue for Christmas 21 yrs. Ago. I know it was made in China and it has the trade mark on the headstock. So now I know it was made by class axe. Thanks TK!
Hey man nothing wrong with cheaper gutairs my grandfather and grandmother got me a mid level Jackson threw a Duncan distortion in the bridge and a random neck pickup from the 80s damn good gutair
Have had a few ST-IIIs, love them! Still have a bright pink late '80s one that I don't wanna sell. When I order a custom shop axe from the BC Rich custom shop? May have to be an ST-III with a Koa top, and a Kahler trem!
I still have my White US STIII. It has an unfinished maple neck that has held up perfectly all these years later. I replaced the DiMarzio Humbucker in the bridge with a DiMarzio FRED Joe Satriani pickup in the late 80's early 90's. I thought the bridge was a bit too hot.
So amazing guitars 🎸 🤘🏼😎 I would give everything if BC Rich would do guitars like the snake and the ST3 today again... remembers the good old King Diamond-Days withe Pete Blakk & Andy LaRoque 🤩
This is similar to mine, though mine doesn't have the EMG's & all Hardware is Black with Metallic Black finish. Mine, according to serial number (apparently Yamaha recycle their serials every decade) is 1980 (they weren't manufactured until about '85 onwards), 1990, or 2000 (I purchased mine 2nd hand in '98, so definitely made pre 2000. Must be 1990. Has the 3 mini toggles. 1 is a Phase In/Out. 1 is a Volume & Tone bypass which I use as a Volume Cut by keeping my Volume dial rolled right back & toggling the switch, I can make her cut in & out. A good effect. 🙂 The other mini toggle is the 'bucker's coil splitter. The things a serious Shred machine. Soooo smooth to play with such a fast neck & action. Everybody that plays her always comments what a sahweet action she has. Yamaha make some great instruments. I love some B.C. Rich, Jackson, Ibanez, ESP, JPS, etc... too. Sooo many fine guitars out there these days. It's great. My latest guitar is a Jackson JS32 RR Uneven V with FR Trem, was only AUD$620 and is 1 of my favourites to play now. Hi Tone King, great job giving us the history on these Fantastic BC Rich jewels. I had a custom painted BC Rich ST-III that I absolutely adored in the late '80's and gigged with regularly in the hair band days. It replaced a cool Charvel I also loved. Sold them both, but REALLY wish I could get that ST-III back!!!! What a great neck that baby had!!!
I have a very rare tony macalpine 1987. It looks like the gunslinger but its called a st custom tm2. Gotoh made the trems for bc.rich my t.mac has the edge trem and my green st3 has the edge trem
Glitter and leopard print, that's what I'm talking' about! Couldn't make that BC Rich any better, except a guitar strap of unicorns. Lol But seriously, loving all the BC Riches and I'm amazed at how new they all look.
As far as I am aware, BC Rich made 3 different style licensed Floyd Rose tremolos in the late 80’s, with the BC Rich logo. The 1st style, I have on an ST-III, has a brass sustain block & the trem arm tightens into place with an Allen wrench. The 2nd was the pop in trem arm, w/o brass block, I had on a Gunslinger I owned. The 3rd was a threaded screw in trem arm, I had on a Warlock I owned. This was right before BC Rich was sold to Class Axe. After that, who knows?
I have a deceased friend whose first guitar was an ST-III in Alpine White and it was a really solid guitar, but he really didn't like it and sold it to our sound tech and went with an ESP. It had a Kahler on it and it was one of the Japanese-made ST-IIIs
@40:00 This looks to me similar to the Gunslinger that Andy LaRocque used for the recording of "Abigail" (King Diamond 1987), I would love to know as KD were the reason I got into HM (from a punk background) and I would love to have one in my "collection", along with my VMNT "Rust In Peace" and my Jem - all of which were the guitars used by my "heroes". I can no longer play due to the five strokes I've had - but these three guitars were "landmarks" for me since 1985 - I have two back in my hands but the 1985 "blue snakeskin" BC Gunslinger is evading me, hence I would love to find someone here in the UK that can possibly source me one. TIA and stay safe.
The tragic flaw of the ST3 is the three mini switches. What a pain in the ass. It’s not at all easy to switch from one pickup to another in a live situation. I love my Gunslinger! Dropped a Tone Zone in it and it smokes!
I loved the B.C. Rich strats back then. I never got one but came close. Always loved the DiMarzio Super Distortions, they really breathed fire. I played in a number of L.A. clubs bands in the 80s metal scene and the Gunslinger was very popular back then. Also the other models like Warlock, Rich Bitch, Mockingbird, Iron Bird and Stealth.
I believe that’s an Ibanez edge term on the red one. They used them for a bit. I had a gunmetal grey one with it. I’ve had 11 BC rich strats, Gunslinger’s, assassins, ST 1’s and ST-iii’s. And while I loved all of them, I have a black, neck thru ST-1 with cloud inlays and a kahler that is hands down one of the greatest guitars I’ve had the good fortune to play.
Thanks for this video. I'm the original owner of a 86-87 pearl white STIII. One of the reasons I wanted it was because of a Paul Stanley ad where he was holding it in the guitar mags at the time. It's a great playing guitar. The neck just feels perfect...shape, thickness, finish (or lack of). Ibanez Edge arms and bushings fit the trem. Mine has the same stress crack in the body where it meets the neck. The bridge was also mounted slightly crooked, so the strings are shifted slightly to towards the top edge. This makes the low E string kind of easy to push off the neck when playing. Do any of your's have this too? Still plays great though and feels like home.
I was in LA in 88 and ended up buying a Copperhead Snakeskin Gunslinger (just like the blue one you have) paid US$700 for it with hardcase ... Sold it the following year for the same money.. nice guitar ... good solid shredder ..
I bought a used Yamaha RGX1212S years ago that was missing the Trem bar. It was a drop-in, & I found an Ibanez drop-in trem bar fits perfectly, & yet my Yammy's FR Licensed tremolo was slightly redesigned by Yamaha. No need to clip string's ball-ends off, looks sleaker & much nicer, Japanese ingenuity. 👍 Please, look up Yamaha RM Pro tremolo. ☺ How lovely issit? 😍
Awesome BC RICH Collection! Very informative. Both snake skins are very cool! Looks like the 2017 snake skin has a worn in neck? The red ST-3 had some flame on the neck too!
Wonderful video and great info on these old BC Richs. I hope the new BC Rich takes some inspiration from this video. Also, have you done a video on the red Kramer SM 1?
Actually, Bernie went to Larry Dimarzio and asked him for a much hotter version of a PAF pickup. The result was the Dimarzio Super Distortion which subsequently came stock in many BC Rich guitars and was a favorite aftermarket pickup throughout the 80s and early 90s.
I have a 1980s before class axe 3 humbucker USA warlock with very small diamond inlays equal on all sides not the regular small ones you don't like as much, have you seen that before? I really enjoy your show and coverage of BC Rich guitars.
Thanks for this Video, love the BC's Guns, Assassin's, Villains.. beautiful collection u got. Unfortunately my place, Gernany is light years away with the BC's. I will need a decade to find something rare with quality. Greetz
I always loved the Strat style BC Rich guitars. Warrant guitarists always had them with designs painted on them(Wish I could find one of them) as well as others of the era. Not so much a fan of the other "Pointy" models. Definitly loved the Gunslinger tho.
Thanks for the info great video all these years I never knew I had a gunslinger LOL no trademark inverted headstock the guitars freaking awesome, but I can't play it because I had Billy Gibbons sign the guitar, when he signed it he was really checking it out he said he liked the guitar a lot
My only complaint with my ST-III and Gunslinger is I wish they had come with an original Floyd Rose and R2 nut. My Gunslinger has a Gotoh Floyd. And the ST-III has a Takeuchi one. Also the ST-III's locking nut does not bolt on from the back. Instead two wood screws hold it down from the top. The Gunslinger in my opinion was B.C. Rich's answer to the Kramer Baretta. Which I also have (a 1987 one).
I have an ST-III with the locking nut bolted on through the back. I think it's an '88. Serial number is BC12826. Licensed Floyd Rose, with a set screw arm.
Fact. Added the Archtop to the line too. I knew him well. Snagged 3 of his private stock. Eagle Supreme. Mock Supreme and Bich Supreme all in one buy. Gave me 2 for 1 on the eagle and mock.
@@noone-t8y I bought several bc rich custom guitars from Ed. I knew him for years. He made me a awesome bc rich mockingbird shorthorn and a 10 string bich.
In the BC Rich world, Ed Roman is generally a reviled human being mainly known for making counterfeit BCR guitars from blanks he bought. Its an interesting story but, most folks seem to avoid guitars built by him.
Nice ass collection damn dude u got a rad collection u got charvels and gunslingers bc riches.... I know u have to have some Kramer’s too and I love that green kiesel u got
Very informative video! Super collection of Gunslingers. I have a snakeskin 80's gunslinger. Do you happen to know what model of Dimarzio pickup was installed?
Ok i just learned something B.C. rich still makes super strat guitars i didn't know that i thought they just made pointy guitars now days i loved those B.C. rich super strats from the 80's awsome guitars im not a pointy guitar kinda guy so i gotta find out where i can get one dont see them in stores anymore have to order one i guess

Question: why are these SO expensive? Its a single humbucker, Floyd Rose with locking and minimal electronics (especially the reissue). Even with the best elecronics/pickups, best trem, best wood and hardware, with once color paint job, how is it these are priced over $1000? Even with a special paint job, I just cant see paying more that $1,500. I grew up in the 80s as a teen guitar player, so I get the heritage and noteriety, but I'm puzzled by the price. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
What are your thoughts on Dave mustaine selling his guitars on reverb? Maybe a cool video to hear your thoughts and if you would be interested in purchasing?
What is the state of B.C Rich currently? Are there / will there be new models available? I haven't seen any new guitars on sale forever at least here in EU.
TTK the 80’s bolt-ons with that neck plate are hard to date because they had boxes of those plates and just reached in and pulled one for a finished guitar , never in sequence .
I have always been a FAN of the BCR Legacy! I don't care, made in USA, Korea, Japan, China!!! I am just HAPPY to NOT have to play a GD P-Bass or Strat!!! Someone PLEASE reincarnate Burnie Rico' !!! also Please have a look at my humble poormans collection in a video I uploaded called - I think I might have mild OCD
I have an ‘87 ST-III with (factory) red snake skin top graphics. (I bought it in ‘88.) I’ve only been able to find a single (Pinterest) photo online. What do you know of this version of the ‘87 ST-III?
That bridge on the first red guitar is an Ibanez original edge. Bc rich usa used an unbranded Ibanez edge trem on many models in the mid to late 80s. The bar is a standard edge bar that you can easily find.

TTK the 80’s bolt-ons with that neck plate are hard to date because they had boxes of those plates and just reached in and pulled one for a finished guitar , never in sequence .
Serious question. TTK would you consider trading or selling your BC Rich Silver Leopard guitar? Heard about it but didn't believe it existed.
I've always wanted a gunslinger. Does Bc Rich still make guitars? Do you know what's going on with them lately?
Cc used like 12 guitars in that nothing but a good time video
I have always been a FAN of the BCR Legacy! I don't care, made in USA, Korea, Japan, China!!! I am just HAPPY to NOT have to play a GD P-Bass or Strat!!! Someone PLEASE reincarnate Burnie Rico' !!! also Please have a look at my humble poormans collection in a video I uploaded called - I think I might have mild OCD
I got one with the hot pink color & reverse headstock. but i dont have any idea where & when this axe was made. No serial number...no back plate
I have an ‘87 ST-III with (factory) red snake skin top graphics. (I bought it in ‘88.) I’ve only been able to find a single (Pinterest) photo online. What do you know of this version of the ‘87 ST-III?
