As the snow began to fall late last night Mom protected the eggs from it as it piles up around her until eventually Mom is totally covered. She breaks free of it to roll the eggs but the snow has no mercy as it covers her up again. Morning finally arrives and the snow has stopped. Mom now has her own private igloo around herself.
𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: The Snow provides excellent insulation for the eggs as they incubate. Those eggs are nice and warm

It has been confirmed that the Male at the Nest is not our beloved Dad by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. I will be referring to him as the Male in my captures. I do not have the heart to call him Dad. Dad was one of a kind
✿ Mom is the resident female on the nest arriving in September of 2019. Based on when she arrived and that she was 5 years old, Mom would be 9 years old now or older as of 2023 She is a great Mom and has fledged 5 eaglets here over the past 3 years

The eagle nest at Duke Farms was discovered in the fall of 2004. A cam was placed on a tree in 2008 for all viewers to enjoy. In 2012 the Nest tree was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and the eagle couple built a new one that December in an American Sycamore tree in a restricted area of the property. This is the tree that is the one we now see live on UA-cam. In 2013 the cams were moved to the new nest to accommodate better viewing of the nest.

After 17 years of protecting his territory, Dad was last seen on Cam on May 19, 2023. He was 23 years old.
Though we could not see past the cam view it was evident that Dad was in a territorial dispute over the previous days by the action of him at the nest.
We will all miss you, Dad. There are no words to describe the dedication and courage you had over the years protecting your young and taking so well care of them. Your legacy will live on with over 30 fledglings you have helped bring up over the years. ❤️
My hope is always that Dad left the territory being older and wiser and not being able to defeat the intruder and is still somewhere out there. No eagle with his bands has been found up to now.
We will all miss you, Dad.

The first eagle's nest I saw was this one, in which the mother eagle was completely submerged in snow...obviously endless worries and sky-high anxiety. Then I learned, but I remain fascinated and full of respect to see the unreserved dedication of these mothers. Thanks for the video, Ondabebe

For me as well the first nest I saw Mom covered in snow and like you I was worried as well. How amazing how much we learn from watching the cams now. Glad you enjoyed the video

Wow! I hope her partner is bringing her food…and sharing incubation. Thanks for the video! The shot of just her head poking out was really beautiful. Yes, the snow does insulate…a lot to contend with nonetheless.

The Male has been in and given Mom a break. She doesn't take many breaks in this kind of weather. As for food, at this nest, while there are eggs unhatched very seldom is food brought to it. There is a large population of eagles here and the threat of a predator is too high for that

Thank you so much Ondabebe to share news of this nest 🥰I saw this morning Mom disappearing under the snow ❄❄ and I wondered if Dad had taken over from her 😊he did it and it's a good thing 💖

Mom's pretty stubborn about giving up incubation in these situations but she is the older of the two and the wiser. I look forward to two bobble heads here

Ondabebe how many eaglets of mom and dad survived in this kind of weather? Just curious because jackie and shadow's luck with their eaglets in winter are not so good and it doesn't snow here in So Ca like it does in NJ🫤 thanks so much for this coverage 😊❤🦅🌿

The success rate here is high without losing any eaglets at least to the snow. Jackie and Shadow have it much worse than New Jersey. New Jersey by March will start to get warmer whereas Jackie and Shadow have colder temperatures I think into April.
