Dr Sahab, the patients of Auto Immune Diseases are advised to take regular medicines on long term (even life long) basis. The medicines including Antibiotic which have side effects and can damage other organs.Thats why the patients discontinue the medicines. What is your advice.
Good question, the medicines which we use in treating autoimmune rheumatological diseases are not antibiotics, these are immunomodulators or immunosuppressives. We need to monitor a few tests on a regular basis to avoid side effects. These medications must be taken under experts advise. If one takes medications under rheumatologist supervision, the treatment prevents organ damage because of the disease/ inflammation rather than doing harm. Hope this will help you. Best wishes
