Question with Elly's vertex weight example (28:18) Why is the shader set to color in the first displacer, and why black? So much info in these Volume Program training videos. Thanks for doing them!

In the Displacer, color is being used to encode height / displacement info. 50% grey means nothing changes. White means that geometry will be pushed outwards, and black means that geometry will be pushed inwards. By setting the color in the displacer to black (and leaving the Strength and height parameters at a positive value), everything is going to be pushed inwards - or in case of the plane, the whole plane will be displaced downwards. Then by using fields in the falloff tab, you can "mask" the displacement and create cool effects like the one Elly shows here.

Are you referring to the sort of “pink outline” which is caused by the material which is set to colourizer.
