I bought the big brother Kendall model for my home and while they are very similar to these, they are true 3-way speakers. The Kendall is a 4 driver speaker with dual binding post sets for bi-amping, the same general shape, narrow tall and deep, dual rear circular vents, a real wood veneer, spikes and rubber feet kits, a large foam plug for tuning at the rear ports, and probably the same aluminum dome tweeter. The driver baskets on the Kendall were advertised as being die cast. Who knows? Maybe they are, or were a few years ago when I got mine.
Sound wise, I am happy to report that mine also have a very good, clear, prominent, undistorted mid range. In the case of the Kendall there is a discreet midrange driver. I do not know if it's in it's own acoustic chamber, but it sounds good to me. I never found the highs to be excessive, but I use a low end McIntosh amp/preamp combo to power them. The bass is a bit over emphasized on the Kendall - great when listening at very low levels as I like to do, but too heavy handed and distorts at high levels. To me the biggest shortcoming of the Kendall is that the bass gets pretty sloppy at anything higher than reference level. I rarely listen that loud though, so I'm thrilled with them and I think they look great, which is important as my main listening room is my living room.
Everything you said about the Cambridge matches closely to what I found in the Kendall. There clearly not the same, but they have a lot in common.
I do recommend the Kendall for anyone who appreciates substantial bass at low volumes and is interested in speakers costing less than $1,500 per pair. They aren't as good as speakers that cost three times as much. But they look almost as nice and they sound better than any other speakers I've heard in their price range. I'm very happy with mine.
KLH is back and almost as good as ever. What we need next is some audio engineer to leave another company and resurrect Advent and AR. They are weak shadows of themselves.
Before the Concord KLH sold the model "Quincy", (3 way) sitting then below the Kendall.
Later on KLH told me that they stopped with them and were replaced with the Concord due to the small price range between the Quincy's and the Kendall's.
Anyway, I do recognize what you said regarding the harsh higher tones.
I was able to get rid of that using the settings on my ordinary Yamaha Advantage amplifier.
After a couple of hundreds hours of listening I gradually turned back the settings, the speakers really needed time.
I listen to music in pure stereo. Since I have the Quincy's I no longer have a subwoofer, I so I'm watching and listening to movies in 5.0 which is fine, their bass is very good and detailed, maybe better defined than the bigger Kendall's, well at least for our room.
All in all more than pleased with them specially since I bought one of the last pairs for the terrible shocking amount of $599 for the pair!
I have them now for 3 years and have not found a better speaker below $2500 a pair.
Also, thumbs up for the customer service of KLH. Great folks.
I bought the Cambridge model a couple of years ago. You're right about these speakers geared towards HT. KLH made 3 tower models: Concord, Cambridge and Kendall. They also made a bookshelf speaker, the Albany, to complete the HT set up.
I, like you, use my KLH for 2.1 stereo set up. I listen to vinyl, cd and some streaming. I really love their sound now 🤘🏽.
And you're right about the reviews, almost no reviews about this line of speakers
Love those ProAcs. Had a pair myself, wish I hadn't sold them.
I think 2 & 1/2 way means 1 tweeter for the highs, 1 driver playing mid & bass, & the final driver playing just bass, basically 'doubling up' the same frequencies at the lower end. What you describe is a three way set up?
Dave, I'm sorry if I missed it in the past, but I love those sound panels on the wall. Could you share what they are called? Greetings from NJ. Thanks.

Nicely done Sir 👍.
hey lets see that comparison video between the new stock p3 and the new modded p3 !
Did you try moving these speakers out into the room, say 3or4 feet from the wall? I would have thought with those twin rear ports, that you would have found that bass extension and imaging would have improved significantly.
Yes I did. But I like most have limits to how far speakers can be moved before they get in the way and look ridiculous.
@@MODAC that is always the tradeoff with higher end speakers...which contributes significantly to the wife approval factor...as always...one of the reasons why I no longer have that impairment...lol...(not saying that these were anyway to be considered as "high end" ) I have found that placement is always an issue, not withstanding the appearance factor. In most systems of a certain quality, you will find that bringing the speakers out from the wall and toed in to your listening position, it creates a must larger soundstage and imaging. I know my Magnapans don't approach satisfactory performance until the are significantly out away from the walls. Most other speakers I have tried are also largely dependent on that "looking ridiculous" factor that you cite.
@@MODAC well, can u please do the video over with proper listening position/speaker placement for these speakers taken into account?
also,
howd they do with ur VTA ST-70?
Don't really agree with the design using two of the same drivers at different frequencies. It should've been both of those woofers for low end, a nice 4 1/2" or 5 1/4" midrange with its own chamber and that nice tweeter with a nice third order crossover, with the enclosure tuned 15hz lower... Also, nice equipment, love that bryston. At this rate, I can't find passive towers that can handle it all, looked at hundreds, I think I'll just build my own, also man, give the revel m106 a try. Another thing, who cares waf, makes you happy, that's all that matters.

1:48 "...so anyway, unless you've been living in a cave or another planet over the past year or so, you'll be well aware of a couple of very successful product launches by the new KLH, with the model 5 and the model 3..." Nope. Not aware at all. Never heard of KLH - but then I do live in England (which is pretty much a cave/another planet these days). I have heard of Henry Kloss though, and I own a couple of Tivoli radios that he had a hand in designing. Very nice too.
