    I had an incident with my Baltic since I last commented.
    I have the Blue Gilt Aquascaphe. It is indeed durable. I had taken it off and it was laying on my chest one afternoon and I dozed off. I awakened with a start and got up suddenly and I heard it hit the tile floor with an agonizing THWACK. To my amazement, it was still running, though there is a noticeable (on close inspection) ding on one of the lugs and one area of the coin edge of the bezel. Otherwise, no apparent damage. It still keeps time to around +/- 2 seconds a day, which is incredible to begin with (it arrived out of the box with this level of accuracy...spectacular for any mechanical movement, but especially a lowly Miyota.
    That said, I think in situations like yours and mine, luck comes into play almost as much as durability, as such incidents could potentially do serious damage to any watch. Be careful out there!
    Wishing you many more years of faithful service from your Baltic.

    I enjoy your videos. This watch has fascinated me for some time, and your story that attests to the build quality and case design is nice to hear. Although I have not yet purchased one, when I do, you will be partly to blame😂
    Thank you for the video.

    Bought the Blue Gilt version of this watch in April. It keeps excellent time...maybe +/- 2 seconds a day. Very well made watch. Nice video!

    First video Iv'e seen about the strap issue. An undersized 2-piece will grab and open the spring bar if doing a fast motion....and the watch goes flying.
    However an undersized pass-through will not grab and will slide easily side to side on the bar. Of coarse, even if, you still got the other bar holding the watch on.
    You can go back to 2-piece BUT only if exactly 20mm.

    Glad to hear you are still rocking this watch and it survived that accident very well. Bought mine a month ago and your videos helped me a lot to come to this decision. I also invested into Perlon and NATO straps for this watch right away.
    Personally i think the perlon straps work a lot better with the Aquascaphe compared to NATOs. The side profile just doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing when the watch gets lifted up by two layers of strap. I believe the reasons for this is that the Aquascaphe's lugs are too long and remain too high above the case bottom. It only looks okay when the material of the strap is very thin and flexible.

    Need a paratrooper strap. It's elastic but looks like Nato from afar. Allows the head of the watch to sit dead center without weight shifting and you can millimeter precise fit. Great for small wrists if you need to pull off a larger width watch. Unmatched comfort. I ditched over 30 Natos and Zulus.
    Pro tip. Buy a cheapo set of 20mm quick change rubber straps for any non Apple smart watch using the standard 20mm lug width. Then take a razor or xacto blade and cut out the quick change pins. This is cheaper than paying $5 for one pair. And you should use quick change pins with a paratrooper strap. I have a Gulf blue racing one on my Seiko GMT Presage sharp edge. The lady at my Grand Seiko dealer was blown away.

  • @luked2767
    @luked2767 Рік тому +1

    I would go for the GMT version as it's based on the ETA 2894 GMT that's just a 2893 as ETAs best watch movement as in 3 hands and date.
    The miyota 9015,9039 and 9075 are real marvels plus cheap to swap out.
    They are amazing movements but I do wish they had an ETA micro ajust screw

    That said, I'd take it to the watchmaker to regulate the movement because if I remember it correctly Baltic regulates the movements they use.

    I will never understand why so many so called microbrands stick with miyota movements, they just suck big time and are the only reason I will never buy watch with them inside, although I love the design. Just get SW200 or ETA2824 movement for fck sake!

    • @doppelfederhaus

      Why? Miyota movement is a problem for you.

    • @auzziebridger
      @auzziebridger 6 днів тому

      This has "I saw a UA-camr trash Miyota movements once and now it's my entire personality" energy. Since the 9000 series, Miyota movements are great, affordable movements commiserate with mass market Seiko and Sellita. In many cases their tolerances are tighter than than the other two. Consider his own experience when the watch was thrown into the ground. The movement was still within +\-30s/day. That is the stated upper margin of error for the SW200. By all accounts, any of the contemporary movements from Seiko, Miyota, Sellita, or ETA will be great in a sub $1000 watch.

    You can get a replacement movement for under 60 pounds.

    Very nice watch - i also like the fact that they use different movements from different manufacturers from a cost/application perspective. Not every watch movement needs to be decorative or have a high-beat movement. Sometimes people forget that high beat movements while great for accuracy need to be serviced more frequently. The wheels (gears) move more rotations and as such the oils need to be cleaned out and re-lubricated more frequently. Do get it tested and and gaskets changed. If you are going sailing, diving, swimming with it. Excellent point about NATO straps btw. Acts as a safety feature - which is exactly why “NATO” straps were created. I would love to use a beautifully made from Japanese silk strap on dress watches - now that would be a beauty

    Nice! I’ve been considering it but with my 7.3in wrist I prefer 40-42 for divers..think this’ll be too small. Other than that it would’ve been perfect.

    • @leonardorechsteiner5429
      @leonardorechsteiner5429 Рік тому +1

      I have a 7.2~7.5 wrist and got the watch last week.
      Regarding size, it definitely wears vintage, but in no way it is ridiculously small for our wrist size, specially on the bracelet.
      I personally was falling out of love with 42mm watches cause I started to feel that the pieces became too much of a statement, whereas my 40mm watch felt more balanced and, which is why I jumped on the aquascaphe. So far, I must say I'm really enjoying it. Granted, I tried to wear it on a strap and felt that it made the watch too small, so I will probably wear it only on the BOR bracelet.

    • @nintendokings
      @nintendokings Рік тому

      @@leonardorechsteiner5429 I’m sure it wears just fine, I own smaller watches too. But just as a preference I’d like this watch bigger (and I’d wear it on straps).

      @leonardorechsteiner5429 Рік тому

      @@nintendokings Ah, got it! That being the case, yeah, the watch will be too small, specially on a strap. The fact that the case is actually 38mm (39mm at the bezel) won't help either.

    DON'T buy any baltic watches, they are garbage. I ordered their MR01 for 605 euros, paid in full, in advance. I received the watch 7 months later. It ran 9 MINUTES fast per hour (not 9 seconds). The b.o.r. bracelet was very cheap, I have $100 watches with vastly superior bracelets. And the return process was a nightmare. They couldn’t: find my address, couldn’t send a prepaid return label. Wanted to refund my money to paypal when it was not used for the purchase. So I paid for the return shipping
    and they committed in writing, to refund the shipping cost. Then they refused to pay for the return shipping cost after receiving their returned watch. This company is wildly incompetent, and massively dishonest.
