I just ordered this radio…will have it tomorrow or Monday. I am using as a scanner because sheriffs dept just switched to P25 and my P25 scanner I spent $400-$500 for doesn’t pick up most of the transmissions. The G4 was recommended to me by hobbyist in the area. They said to consider it more like a police radio than a scanner. Soon FD will be switching to P25 also so it will be a must to listen to the channels I want to listen to. The thing I like is it looks like I can set my sheriff’s district on priority so if something happens in my hood, I won’t miss it. I will more than likely have fire on priority after they change over since that’s what I’m most interested in. Listening to scanners can be an expensive hobby.
Nate - I find this interesting. Long time ham radio operator and scanner enthusiast here. I have an SDS 100 and really like it but this seems to have much better audio. I am in Henry County, TN and we have a DMR T-3 Simulcast system here with 4 frequencies, it shows LCN but not LSN. The SDS 100 seems to handle it ok without it and shows Slot number when stations are transmitting. The question here is, is the Unication G4/5 a better "radio" for listening to DMR T-3 Simulcast systems? Did you buy new? It is quite pricey for sure. Good video, thanks.
I had gotten rid of the last one I had because that idiot thing decided to keep rebooting and at times not even turn on at all turns out that the fucking ROM chips in there went bad and it eventually got corrupted like an SD card would and I was like fuck that I'm not going to even bother with these anymore so I ended up buying myself a conventional scanner for equal the price and less of a hassle and I can program it on the fly without issues either so if my SD card goes corrupted I could easily swap it out for a new one and not worry about it especially having the hassle of when the battery Burns all the way down and you go to charge it up it never even works so you're better off getting a regular scanner that receives p25 phase one and two and call it a night

Sorry for the late response Unication can I’m so tier 1 and tier 2 DMR. Unfortunately it can’t do a Tier 3 trunking system for DMR
What does the Trip Zone consist of?
Is there a pronounced squelch tail and does it have an option to use data operated squelch like on the XTS/XTL on analog?
I have tried MCD1200. it can decode MDC1200 and it does sound like DOS and cuts some of the MDC1200 when it decodes the unit number
