I think part of the problem is that like, can we trust these TMJ dentist people to evaluate it properly? Or are they just trying to sell as many as they possibly can?
Like with most professions, there are gems and there are turds. Ask if you can speak to some of their treated patients to hear their experiences.
Precisely.
I have a lower lip tie that no one caught- not my airway dentist, not childhood orthodontists and dentists, not my myofunctional therapist. No one.
Fast forward, I'm 50 and going through forward expansion to reopen extraction spaces. I have lower gum recession that's halting my expansion, and for crying out loud, it was someone in an Adult Expansion FB group that pointed out that a very obvious lip tie is pulling on the tooth with the worst gum recession. I feel so stupid for not seeing it, but no one else saw it, either.
I love to have the whole story on these things, and I really appreciate your skepticism- I know you've been through so much, and your story is so valuable for those of us going through all this horrible stuff. But I'm wondering if the lower tie is a bigger part of my story- recessed chin, collapsed profile, horrible TMJ and mouth breathing issues- because no one saw it. I wish someone had, and tried to upsell me! I wonder if things would've turn out a little differently.
Well, at least I can have it treated now, and the 2 weeks of hellish pain will be a little more healing to my gums, and maybe make a 3rd round of braces a little less risky. Cheers!
Can't speak to upper, but my own lower lip-tie release was great! The appearance of my chin is much improved and I can speak and emote more clearly and easily.
Did you have any other treatment before/after?
Thanks for sharing I appreciate the data point.
im tryna get one of these how do these work
Blessed to have you Ron
This format is really good.
Hairstyle also on point, fits your face.
I was wondering the same. All of my children have had tongue and lip tie. We only released one of lip ties because it was so thick and long she couldn't latch to nurse.the others we left. I always go back and forth in my head whether we did the right thing leaving them. I just couldn't get around causing extra pain to a baby already getting a tongue tie release.
Weird side story... My youngest sister had a lower lip tie release because it was causing her gums to reced. Turns out she actually had a rare mutation. It wasn't just a lump of flesh it was actually a muscle that sometimes grows in people with Irish genetics. My dentist, who is almost 80, said he's only seen it two times in person. The lady before my sister lost a lot of her lower teeth due to it. 😬
Thanks for sharing about yourself and your family, and for your continued support. I really appreciate your participation in the JawHacks community.
I definetly agree that you have to be careful to do it, most of them would do a bad job. tying and destroying it little by little is the best approach
I had a lip tie release when I was 13. The orthodontist said it was necessary to close the large gap between my front teeth. I don't wear an upper retainer and the gap has stayed closed.
Shortly after my baby was born I took him to get a tongue tie release because his latch was very shallow and painful. The pediatric dentist wanted me to also give him a lip tie release. (Really thick lip ties run in my family.) I wasn't going to give him one because it was going to cost $500 but she said she'd do it for free. His latch improved because he was able to flip his upper lip upward more and easier, before it was usually curled under. But I don't know if it was really necessary or if the tongue tie release would've given him enough improvement.
I think in the case of infants who have a discrete issue such as inability to latch, then the lip tie release might be warranted. Thanks for sharing.
It's weird, but for me the tongue tie release wasn't painful at all. And I had to do it TWICE because the first doctor didn't release it completely. Even with the latter and more major release I felt literally zero pain, only wery minor soreness immediately after the operation, which I would compare to a needle prick after vaccination or a blood test. No pain even when I rubbed and stretched the wound multiple times a day for like three weeks. I guess I just had much less sensitive nerves in that area that average people.
Great to hear. Tongue tie was brutally painful for me. Everything is brutally painful for me, lol. I am an HSP (highly sensitive person).
I had my tongue tie release done, and it was awesome and very successful and has helped me so much. I later on had a lip tie release by someone else who didn’t know what they were doing. It has healed horribly and my smile has been affected, and the tie grew back. I am considering having it done again to try and fix the issues caused by the first release. The reason I had it done was because I couldn’t close my lips before having it done, so I did need it. Now I can close them but it’s still not as comfortable as I would have liked. So there is a minor improvement, which I actually do think was probably worth it. Some people do actually need their lip ties released. Bottom line - go to someone who knows what they are doing. I wish I had the first person do mine since they did so well with my tongue tie.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO IM GETTING TONGUE TIE RELEASED ON THE 11TH AND WAS CONSIDERING THE ADDITIONAL $80 FEE!!!!
im actually getting it now, it can hold tension back on the maxilla im getting it removed with a laser so its very unlikely to be uneven
What about a lip tie causing front tooth gap? And just the lip tie alone nothing else involved?
what do you mean says who? the insertion says it very clearly, its true that if you have alittle tie it s probably not a big deal
1:41 Noted
I have a grade 3 tongue tie and I'm thinking of getting it removed because it has given me posture problems as well as speech problems
I've had braces too because the back of my tongue couldn't rest on my upper palate also because of the tongue tie , I think getting a tongue tie release will help me mew better
@@adhyak2652 I have found that tongue tie release does not provide all of the magical full-body pain relief and postural benefits promised. However still worth doing if there is a visible tie, as even simply increasing tongue's range of motion can be very beneficial.
Do you think mse is superior to marpe specifically for nasal breathing benefits?
MSE is a kind of MARPE. A brand of MARPE, if you will.
The tie is just not supossed to be there it clearlys restrict mobility and also has fascia implications,
So what would be good cases to carry out a lip tie release? Do you think it is never a good thing, never justified? What about in young children?
In babies it can restrict the ability to latch correctly on the breast. In children and adults there are some lip ties that cause significant diastema (gap between teeth). Also some lip ties and Buccal ties can cause gum recession. If the gum is pulling significantly in one area and you notice they gum is recessing due to this it needs to be addressed. This happens most commonly during orthodontic treatment due to changes in the tooth position causing the tension on that gum tissue. If there are lip ties, and someone is considering ortho it would be worth addressing prior to treatment.
These are some of the indications for lip tie release.
Hope this helps. Myofunctional therapist 👋🏻
Yeah I think infants with clearly identifiable issues such as failure to latch might be better candidates than "muh TMJ patient" adults.
@@alizapya Are you calling a frenum a lip tie just to dial down the jargon? In my mind a lip tie is a frenum that restricts movement, whereas I would call what you are referring to as a frenum with a coronal attachment.
@@smoothbanana I am referring to a restrictive labial frenulum when calling it a lip tie.
So i apparently have upper lip tie... i am older now and have never even heard of it before... but i have a significantly smaller maxilla... what are your thoughts on this? Ignore? Look into it?
You're done growing, what is your goal?
@@smoothbanana to increase maxilla.. done growing our not with mewing you will get increase... my maxilla has already changed with only about 3 months of mewing
Somewhat off topic but it looks like your midface is a lot more developed (in a good way) compared to a few years ago. Is this the MSE?
Thanks Robert, yeah, MSE and additional years of Mewing.
do u suggest tongue tie release to someone who doesn’t plan to do anything else orthodontic wise?
Hard to say. There is always a chance that the tongue tie will heal to worse than baseline if you can't stabilize the new range of motion. Expansion helps give you the space to do that.
@@JawHacks and that's why it's probably best to wait til after orthodontics expansion to do a tongue tie release.
First question should be what goal are you trying to achieve?
What do you think about buccal ties? u mentioned it briefly but didn't go in depth about it... My doctor's are suggesting i get a tongue tie and buccal tie release because my tmj pain isn't improving even after mse and neuromuscular orthotic. Tongue tie release is obviously a good thing and certainly gonna get it done but now this has me scared about buccal ties, can u please comment? Would appreciate it a lot.
I believe it was the buccal tie release that almost killed the patient I mentioned in the video. I'm not crazy about them.
@@JawHacks well great timing for the video then, saved me...
3:00 I had TMJ when I started mewing and I was still able to move the maxilla wtf.
Nice.
I'm in the middle of my MSE, 6.3 mm of expansion already with a 9 mm goal. Hasn't been too painful actually, I'm a little surprised
Love to hear that. Yeah, some people have very little pain. Others, such as myself, really have a tough couple of days.
@JawHacks I should clarify, first couple of days were painful trying to get used to the new device but after that wasn't as bad - just had to get used to the tad pieces on my teeth poking out where the MSE arms connected. The turns themselves were never painful either, but I for sure felt different sensations especially as it the suture split which it split very slowly lol. I also want to thank you because I found your channel before I got the MSE put on so I learned lots of dos and don'ts and what kinds of questions I should be asking my ortho, who I must admit is a sweetheart and very good at what he does!
Unrelated to the topic but your voice sounds deeper Ron - have you started trt or got a cold?
A very mild cold, also could be some permanent changes in my voice. Also could be the room's unique aesthetics, as well as the particular microphone and audio settings. Audio is complex lol.
This is what happens with jaw surgery tho. They cut through your lip tie and the gum lines so it’s unavoidable if you have to get jaw surgery
I do think often trad orthodontists are so brainwashed into their teachings that general dentists often have less bias and more open minded to views such as orthotropics, so better in many ways.
this is a video from dark days
Lol more like the dark part of the day...this morning before dawn.
hi
