Henk Poort was the Phantom in the Dutch version of the musical in the 90's. Obviously he wore the appropriate mask during those performances. Henk is very good, it's rumored that Andrew Lloyd Weber has called him the best Phantom of all the opera singers that took the role, worldwide. For this show, to step out of his comfort zone, Henk learned to sing with distortion in his voice especially to perform the Disturbed version of The Sound of Silence for Floor in the episode of the show dedicated to her. Singing with distortion is not something opera singers do, but Henk took lessons and practiced for a few hours. The result is very good, you should definitely check out that performance. A little background on the "Beste Zangers" show. It's a tv show in the Netherlands and the season with Floor in it aired last summer. It's not a competition really, just a friendly get together of professional singers who then proceed to pay tribute to each other by performing songs that either mean a lot to the person or covers from their repertoire. Every episode is centered around one of the singers. On the final episode they do duets, one of which is the one you just saw. I also highly recommend the duet between Henk Poort and Emma Heesters, "Vivo Per Lei". It's another great performance by Henk and a beautiful song. Emma is a very young UA-cam cover star, she's only 23 but she really holds her own during the performance, Henk made a good choice with her. Floor is actually not that well known in the Netherlands, even though she's been a professional singer in multiple bands for almost 20 years now, because hardrock and metal are not really mainstream here and hardly played on the radio. However, since the show aired she has gotten nothing but positive reactions, many more people now know what she can do and she has sold out a whole series of solo shows throughout the country. Also tickets to Nightwish sold out so fast after this show aired that they planned a second concert, which is now also sold out.
In my opinion Floor is one of the top , if not the top , live performers in history. There is just this electric magnetism that draws you to her. She just commands your attention and you willingly give it to her. She pays you back in spades though, because every moment you give to her leaves you feeling like you came away with the better deal.
I'd definitely say she's the top vocalist of our time (at least that I've heard. Floor was basically unknown in her own country, which is one of the reasons she went on this show. No one else on the show had even heard of her.) I don't know about top performer though.
It absolutely was not “more of a struggle” for Henk to hit those notes hah, considering he was the Dutch Phantom. Check out his cover of The Sound of Silence for more proof (also sung to floor). It was more he decided to attempt a more “metal” voice for only the second time in his life, as it’s a big no-no for opera singers. Also Nightwish covered Phantom of the Opera years ago, this version took a lot of elements out of that cover.
From my understanding Henk and Floor were both holding back a bit because of the small venue and the equipment set up. If you watch them perform at Floors concerts they both add more power and projection to their voices
Hayden Fitzpatrick Hank practiced singing with distortion for that performance for Floor (Sound of Silence). Distortion is a big no-no in opera. But Hank should continue doing it. He sounds epic with that opera growls!
she was study at the rock academie, and also opera lesson , she is a soprano. Henk was playing for many years the dutch Phantom . and is now singing with two other baritons in the netherlands.

This Beste Zangers show was pretty awesome. Floor was mostly unknown to the people of her home country of Netherlands until after this show. Now both her and Nightwish have exploded. It was a good time watching this show with English subtitles.
Your statement about how she embodies the music, truly resonates, you are the first and only person I've heard say this, I cannot agree more, every performance, every Nightwish song she not only sings it perfectly but she owns the stage and the song. No one, no one comes close. I have lived in the era of Floor. Thank you Vin, 150% agree. You folks rock.
The gentlemen that sang with Floor (Henk Poort) originally portrayed the Phantom in the Dutch performance of Phantom of the Opera. Floor had always been a fan of him, fangirled when she saw he was going part of the show. He agreed to do it as long as he got to sing it with Nightwish. and this version of the song is based on the Nightwish cover of it.

New game of shots: take a shot every time Vin and Sori get goosebumps during this performance. Henk Poort is an established opera singer in the Netherlands (The Henk Poort as Floor calls him, he had played Eric _the phantom_ in the Dutch plays!) and actually he used distortion here in the second half as a way to get out of his comfort zone and employ some metal sound to his vocals. Nightwish *did* cover this song back in the Tarja era. A lot of us are hopeful that they'll play Phantom of the Opera live again with Floor. This was a nice surprise, thanks guys!! Edit: we know my favorite singer is Floor, but I also love Anneke van Giersbergen, Charlotte Wessels (Delain), and Doro
He actually used the distortion to please Floor out is his admiration for her, and cause he knew it'd be a nice surprise for her...As you can see from her reaction, it did work.. 🙂
Vin and Sori should definitely check out Henk's rendition of The Sound of Silence to hear more of Henk and how he tackled singing with distortion as a classically trained opera singer.

I agree, Floor has everything. Dimash can't be considered, since he's clearly an alien, and not a human. No human has the right to his vocal abilities.
Bit of nitpicking, this is a dutch show, from the netherlands. Now the netherlands is indeed in europe. But the rest of europe doesnt have much to do with it. "Beste zangers" literally just means "Best Singers" It's a show where they gather a group of singers from the netherlands, and get them together, and every episode 1 of them is the main guest, and the other people sing songs from that person or songs that he or she likes or has a strong connection with. This one is from the last episode of the season where it's free game and they do duets with each other. The show isnt a contest or anything, just an appreciation of each other's music
At 5.48 the dude touching the forehead of the girl with his finger. That's what this song is about. It's about mind controle, kinda BDSM, but not for him to put off his mask (he's a phantom anyway) but for her to throw of her mask and bring out the best in her and he challenges her to do so. Sure they are European but Dutch! This is also a Dutch show. Also hearing Floor sing is referred to as a 'Floorgasm'.
When Henk Poort was in his prime in the nineties he played the role of the Phantom in the stage musical, and was considered one of the best, if not the best performer of the role by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Its not unexpected his voice will have lost some of its quality over the last thirty years, but he still is one of the finest singers around.. He is confident enough to try new things like distortion which is frowned upon within his trade of Opera and Musical singing. Big kudos to him for that. [Edit] Floor didn't necessarily act like being under his spell but actually may have been. She saw him perform the phantom on stage and Henk Poort has ever since been her biggest idol. She reveres him. You should see Henk Poort doing other performences and how Floor is fan-girling over him ^_^
Great reaction!! Love Floor, she is such a great singer and person as well.. As much a fan a am of Floor, please watch Dimash Kudaibergen (26) with the song SOS to start with. The world’s best singer alive is what so many vocal coaches say and I agree. He’s famous already in Asia and Europe is waking up too 😉 Dec 2019 he sold out Barclays center. Take a look, you will not be disappointed and will wonder why you did not heared about him before! Greetings from a dutch fam of Floor ánd Dimash!
Ive already commented, but i came back again just to say, if you get a chance to go see The Phantom live, you need to do it. I saw it live in Australia in 91 and to this day, is still one of the best shows ive seen live of any genre to this day. Its just a fantastic show. Do yourselves a favour and go see it as soon as you can, i can guarantee you wont be disappointed.
Actually the Phantom of the Opera intro was taken from Pink Floyd's Echo, Roger Waters came close to sueing ALW but didnt because he actually enjoyed it.
@@Harolddespui Not only can Floor does everything, she does it ridiculously well .. It’s almost not fair for other bands. How do you compete with that!!
That thunder in the beginning may of may not be real, it started storming right before their performance. If you look close you can see it's pouring down. Valkyrie Floor is so into her role she calls forth lightning to set the mood xD
Great reaction . Just to let you know . Henk Poort was the Phantom in the Dutch stage show and is known in Holland for that part he has been an Opera singer all his life . Nightwish did do the Phantom Of the Opera with there first singer Tarja . You need to look into the Best Singers from the Dutch TV series and not just Floor . Look into the back ground of the show first it's not a contest of one better than the other .
Great stuff. Andrew Lloyd Webber's Paganini variations are also amazing. P.S. This version was based on the Nightwish version they did with their 1st female vocalist Tarja Turunen, who is classically trained unlike Floor, who only studied classical singing two years part time.

Thank you for this bit of optimism from overshadowed Europe, we need more like this.
[Edit]
Floor didn't necessarily act like being under his spell but actually may have been. She saw him perform the phantom on stage and Henk Poort has ever since been her biggest idol. She reveres him. You should see Henk Poort doing other performences and how Floor is fan-girling over him ^_^
guys they really need to listen to Henk's version of the sound of silence!
I've seen them perform together live in January over here in Holland.
They are fabulous
Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera( Download 2013 Live). So many req have been made for this song.
Iron Maiden-Phantom of Opera (live at Gothenburg 2005) A much better version.
@@megaherd619 no. The energy on download one just something else.
Nothing compared to the Gothenburg (Ullivi) show. The crowd was absolutely lit.
@@megaherd619 yeah but band doesnot sound good. And Murray´s solo in Download version is fcking awesome. Way better than Ullevi.
Nightwish, Floor and Henk Did this song in Amsterdam 2023 February , a great show, Greetings from nwAse Sweden
Actually the Phantom of the Opera intro was taken from Pink Floyd's Echo, Roger Waters came close to sueing ALW but didnt because he actually enjoyed it.
Nightwish did a cover of The phantom of the opera years ago. It's part of the End of an era concert.
Nightwish did do it with Tarja
Yeah, and Tarja fans always said Floor can't do Phantom that's why they ditched it. Floor: "hold my Nightwish".
Hard to believe that floor is the lead singer of a Symphonic metal band. Insanely talented
Floor rules. The ultimate Nordic Viking angel goddess soprano. Sent to earth to show us mortals what heaven sounds like. No one can sing like floor.
Please react to Nightwish Dead Boy's Poem live at Buenos Aires such an amazing song
Nightwish did a version of Phantom of the Opera. Checkout their life performance with Tarja, it's amazing.
Henk Poort played the phantom for years like your brother.
♥️♥️♥️
Wow, I did not realize this was that good. All this time and she still finds ways to surprise me.
That last note was a 9 second D6......and boom.
Great stuff. Andrew Lloyd Webber's Paganini variations are also amazing. P.S. This version was based on the Nightwish version they did with their 1st female vocalist Tarja Turunen, who is classically trained unlike Floor, who only studied classical singing two years part time.
Stage presence incomparable
voice, soul, heart ...
unique emotions thanks Floor thanks
Coincidentally, they're performing the Nightwish rendition of this song here.
6:39 #Floorgasm
Most singers sing what they can. Floor Jansen sings what she wants.
Lol there is a Nightwish version of Phantom of the Opera. With Tarja the first singer.
This sounds slowed down to me, which makes it lower pitched. It's even more impressive at the correct speed.
Most awesome choice 👍
Lyrics are by Tim Rice if I'm not mistaken
Weber wrote the music, 2 other guys wrote the lyrics but I do not recall their names
Thank you my favorite Christians and sweethearts... Dutch Pride here...
Thanx for the heart.... Love your channel, especially for the banter....
She"s the Ronnie James Dio of the female singers Really 🦉💜👑
Ronnie would have approved.
She's the Freddie Mercury of the female singers.
Yesss...finally you doin this...continue to react Floor and Nightwish, hope it will be move away corona around us :D
