Do Phantom of the Opera from the same show. Do her on this entire season!
Floor was not a big fan of being on a "reality TV show" but she liked the idea behind this one (this is season 12 I think). Basically different Dutch singers with completely different styles sing to each other and make covers every week. Before the show she wasn't known in the Netherlands, metal is not very popular there, so she just wanted to break the clichés and prejudices people have about metal and show metal singers are capable of doing more than scream and make loud noises. She has reached number 1 on the Netherlands with some of those covers and now after the program everybody is crazy about her (she's going to do 9 solo concerts in january and the tickets were sold out in one day). Her last performance of "The Phantom of the Opera" with a gentleman called Henk Poort is mindblowing, but all the other covers are amazing too.

After Within Temptation who went commercial with the "Mother Earth" era we now have the totally unattractive Floor Jansen who's just another crappy metalsinger who went commercial. I always hated After Forever too, just because of this hag.
We have a couple female metal singers who are a dozen times better than her, including:

• Simone Simons (Epica)
• Rosan van der Aa (ex-Orphanage)
• Nienke de Jong (ex-Autumn, ex-Her Enchantment)
• Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering, The Gentle Storm)

Do you hear metal bands on commercial TV or commercial radios on the Netherlands everyday? NO. That's what "popular" means. Metal is not as popular as pop music. Even Floor talked about it on interviews, she said the musical scene in the Netherlands regarding metal is a disaster, people doesn't even have the chance to listen to that kind of music. And I guess she knows what she's talking about, don't you agree? Or is Floor Jansen an idiot too? Only Tim and Henk knew about Floor. Jan and the other professional singers didn't even knew what "symphonic metal" was, he even made the joke that he had to Google it.
So, Floor wasn't known on the Netherlands and metal is not a popular genre. That's a fact.

Yes it doesn't gets played on commercial radio-, or tv channels, but every time when there's an actual good band playing (and I don't mean Metallicrap or something similar like that) there's a good crowd.
And ofcourse Floor says 'the scene regarding metal is a disaster' it's mostly because people get tired of seeing her ugly face and constantly hear the same never-changing generic 'symphonic goth metal'.
You must do "Phantom of the opera" in the same show. It's unbelievable good.

Exactly. I think one part which is even more impressive was the case that his childhood was also a mess, even his parents kicked him out I think with 13 because he was such a difficult kid. It's so impressive what he has done with that background. A lot of the time this ends completely different. Ha made it and now writes beautiful songs. Listen to his original, it's also pure gold. He has also a rock voice with a rasp tone. Hearing it with the unbelievable talent of Floor and her perfection of bringing emotions into a song made it even more powerful.

Well it was clear that this unexpectedly hit hard, Vin. I feel for you and moreover for your brother and wish him much strength and all the best. At this point I want to join the line of requesters of The Phantom of the Opera from this same show. It was the very last performance of the season and what a way to end it like that. The hype is real; the video is well on it's way to 2 million views after only 4 days. Really worth your expert reaction.

This song hit me hard when I first heard it, because of similar reasons Sori touched on and because of my own past. I feel like this was my personal favorite due to the emotional response from everyone on the couch and the story about Tim's brother, and ofc I thought of all the beautiful folks I've met in the village or on Nightwish reactions etc., Who have been through literal hell yet still stand tall despite. You're all winners in my book.

I'm in tears...my husband was once healthy and strong..now is disabled RA among other things have him on a walker and wheelchair...takes extra steps to just do something others take for granted. Vin, I know what you mean. No words can describe the love of a brother for a brother. As someone who has watched his brother struggle through parts of his life, partly because of his experiences in the military and partly because of his choices. You want the best and the family tries to help, but your heart breaks when he can't get the pieces to come together. I appreciate your willingness to put your real reaction out there. Vin you don't need to hold back. I'm a hard core metal head, but Floor has managed to drain my eyes and sinuses more than once. I've lived over half a century and NO ONE besides her has been able to do that to me. I'm proud to be part of the "Floor-Tear-Club".

Her version of Shallow really tones the song down to its inner core. As opposed to just belting it out the most you can. Floors an amazing singer. The best!

I started to follow this show because of Floor Jansen, but during the episodes i really started to like all the other singers too. I love how this show is done - respectful towards different music and different artists and their stories, and where are they coming from. And phew - Floor Jansen shined in every song! She sang in german, dutch, spanish and english and stepped out of her own comfort zones as a metal singer. Phantom of the Opera duet with Henk Poort was icing on the cake. Thank you Pony for requesting this, and thank you Vin and Sori :)
Once you watch the lead up to the songs and the reaction afterwards, it gives a whole new meaning. Far out, this hit harder than it already did the first time i listened, without all the explanation. Floor is a Goddess. Nightwish are so lucky to have this woman leading their band now. But that's a bit off topic. Sorry to hear your brother is having a tough time, i wish him the best. yo i commented previously before i watched you guys react. Isnt it something how another person's life can touch your own. Floor brought that song to life. You guys should follow all the shows that were done. They are mostly all on youtube posted by avotros or Denise Hofs. Amazing performances by Floor and really all of the performers for that matter. You guys will love them. I am a metal head and i would never have imagined following a reality singing show like this but i am glad i did and i think you guys will be too.

Thanks to Denise Hofs, who did the translating to bring it to a wider audience, we've been able to discover a wonderful concept for a tv show. Comradery over competitiveness, and exposing artists from across genres.

I don't know if you know what the show is about exactly but each week the show is about one of the artists in particular.
That artist sits in the "hot seat" with the host, Jan, on the middle couch as the others all had picked a song to do for that artist. It's usually one of their songs or something that has special meaning to them.
At the end, the honored artist picks a favorite but it's not a competition show. Its about celebrating music and artists coming together and bonding and singing outvif their normal elements. Theres no prize per say. So it's not like the Voice or a anything like that.
Yeah, as they said, this episode was about Tim Akkerman. Floor chose this song cause it has special meaning. Tim wrote this song for his brother, who was a spina bifida baby and is in a wheel chair but hes never complained about it. Hes always had a positive outlook on life. Hes a winner indeed.
The last episode was about duets. Henk and Floor do Phantom of the Opera!! Henk said hed do it on one condition. When Nightwish comes back to the netherlands, that he gets to perform with Nightwish.

There's just something about Floor, yes she has the incredible capabilities and talent, and vocal pipes like no other. But she can break you down with that voice of hers. She has a beautiful spirit inside, and it all comes out when she gets up there and sings. Plus when you combine a great song like this, it's a powerful combination.

The Dutch show Beste Zangers is a get-together of singers who do different genres (country, latin, rock, schlager, opera, pop and of course metal) and each of them sings one of each other's songs. Everyone translates "Beste Zangers" with "Best Singers", which is correct, but it is not the only meaning. "Beste" is also used as a salutation, like "Dear Singers". "Best Singers" sounds like a competition, while "Dear Singers" is more like the start of a friendly gathering. The latter probably fits the show better.
