    You probably have already seen this, but it was more of a personal decision to have this clip
    on the channel. Sometimes the topic of me running a UA-cam channel comes up in conversations
    and sometimes (but rarely) I get accused of supporting and promoting a bigot, which really frustrates me,
    considering I am a brown, ex-muslim guy born and living in Germany.
    I just want to have this clip here as a good reference video to link to people who think that
    Dr. Peterson is a terrible person and that his fan base is somehow toxic.
    Most of us here are just people trying to fix small things in our own lives and are
    attracted to his rational case for not becoming nihilistic and aimless.

      Don't let those people get to you, one day they'll realize that they're wrong; they'll clean their damn rooms before they criticize the world! But seriously thanks for these uploads, you're one of 10 or so UA-cam channels that I actually watch consistently. Keep it up, you're doing God (or Peterson's) work!

      Bite-sized Philosophy Have pity on those who say he's bigot and all that stuff. Their lives are nihilistic and naïve beyond comprehension. Have pity.

      I think it is because people are overwhelmed and confused about the controversity around him and think that just calling him a racist/sexist/transphobe is taking the save route. What disappoints me is that calling someone a racist had a serious meaning several years ago. While I grew up in a very tolerant country and was given fair opportunity despite coming from a poor immigrant family, I think having at least the option to call out racism was still important. That's a power that the left took to further their own political agenda. Now everyone is desensitized hearing that word and the few real racists are very happy about that.

    • @anonnona6940
      @anonnona6940 6 років тому +2

      Bite-sized Philosophy It's just naïve behaviour bruh. "Racist" and "Fascist" has become a word like asshole or annoying. It has lost it's weight. Left is run by people who wanna rob others under a curtain of self claimed morality. If we allow it to pursue, we'll end up like Sweden.

    Sadly it's true, people don't like it when good things happen to other people. When I tell people I overcame depression after being extremely depressed for over 20 years, survived an ovarian tumor and was bullied for a long time (still bothers me today in my social life that I was bullied) they just nod and start a different subject. It's so fucking upsetting, because you hope someone can be happy for you but they just don't care. Not even my own family members, I worked so hard and nobody cares. I love Jordan Peterson for caring, what a great example for mankind.

      Congrats. To add to your point, I find people are at LEAST apathetic, and much worse jealous and/or resentful towards those overcoming obstacles in their life (especially if they can't or won't). Part of the reason I think JP is gaining traction is due to his message in a world where increasing we are not expected/taught to handle challenges, rather ignore or avoid them and it is killing us. We are cultivating a world of Cains with few Abels.

    I got emotional at the end of the video, because it's so true, it's unbelievable.. after knowing Jordan Peterson, having those exact same reactions he described, doing the future authoring program and striving for the highest good, not only my depression and suicidal thoughts have gone away (or at least are under control now for good), but I've also started encouraging my friends and family to do the same, because I want them to be the best version of themselves they can be, and it's just stunning how much that good chain reaction just spreads around and echoes back to you with multiplied force, and give meaning to life.
    I can't help but want to have the torch with the brightest fire, to lighten up those who may have their torches extinguishing or completely wiped out.

    • @mav8535
      @mav8535 6 років тому +2

      For me it's the same. I'm always trying to help my friends and find solutions to their Problems and see it actually working for them.
      (Which is unbelievable) But at the same time i am struggling with my problems and no matter what i do, i can't seem to help myself. I think i made a good decision last year to drop out of jobschool and finally live up to my potential and make my A Levels, but now I'm struggling in my correspondence school and doubting that i can do it and i don't know how to end this downward spiral.

    Dr Peterson did more for my life than anybody have ever done. Straight A student leading to success encounters severe depression and ends up lost in a dark pit, hopeless and suicidal. He gave me the strength to get out of there and find myself again. Also he made me discover the power of philosophy. I am more than fascinated with all of it.

    Part of why he resonates with me so much is that his lectures, his speeches and advice for living your life to the fullest are never as DOCTOR Peterson telling you some foolproof way to make your life better. All he's doing is reminding you of the things that you've noticed, but forgot. "Why am I so fat and lazy?" Well maybe since you hate working out you should notice that and DO IT because you hate it. He's just helping people see the forest through the trees. He's not here to be your once a week psychologist, he's here to tell you how to make yourself better on your own. (Medical treatments and disorders aside)

    • @BitesizedPhilosophy

      Exactly. What I also like personally is that he is a wicked devil's advocate for nihilism. He is not just dismissing the temptations of not taking up responsibility as only something for weak people. He acknowledges it as a powerful force that he probably has struggled with more than most people.

    • @Arbitros1
      @Arbitros1 6 років тому

      At first I actually thought he was a bit of a nihilist due to his lack of facial emotion when he's speaking, but all of his talks are about how to bring purpose into your life. Not to get bogged down by our actual pointlessness, but instead to give your life a point. And I love that.

    "I dont usually think about these things"
    I enjoyed seeing him talk about himself even when he is probably not used to it hahah. The ideologies he shares are always general and he usually avoids being subjective. This clip is so great because you actually witness his principles as a person and why he does what he does.

    I remember trembling when I started reading Nietzsche. Then encountering the strange response from those around me. "That's so dry; so much work. Why do you read this". WTF?! There's very real power in this stuff. The awarenss this brings changes you forever. Peterson is speaking to this as well. So good to see him on UA-cam.

    This, what Dr. Peterson is describing near the end of the clip, is really the same idea that started the Random Acts of Kindness. Do a something nice for someone and you'll make the world just a little bit better. And sometimes you need to do something nice for yourself too.

    "Christianity ended slavery"
    However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
    There was also a massive push from the christians to keep slavery. They held up their bibles in court and said that it was their god given right to own slaves and that the government couldn't take that away.
