    Some videos are just personal reminders for myself and this is one of them. What is scarier than following a difficult goal? Wasting the opportunity to pursue it and violating your own interest.

    "You can't make yourself interested in something." (1:51) While at first this seems like a self-evident claim, upon reflection I think this claim should be reexamined. From my own experience I know that when at first I think of a certain subject as tedious or boring, when I repress this inner resistance and dive right into it I can feel myself getting curious and wanting to know more. The more I learn about a subject - the more connections I make between certain aspects of a theory and the things I already know or experience - the more exited I get.
    Still you could say that it is not entirely up to me what spikes my curiosity and interest be it at first or later on, however I do think that to a certain degree we can intentionally steer our interests and make ourselves excited about a subject which we originally dreaded.

      @UA-cam Account haha 😀 this may be the bitter truth I'm starting to learn. Decided to go into a field that would, more or less, guarantee me far better income and stability than typical jobs in many other different areas. Cause there would never be unnecessary, unwanted money for family, kids, etc., right? And I can pursue whatever engages and interests me on the side. Turns out, there's a certain degree to which you can force something you do not enjoy upon yourself. And being good at something doesn't have to do anything with it, it's just that the motivation is always an uphill battle.

      Yes, you're on the right track there, I think. But there's more. He said "listen to them". You have dark interests within you. We all do. It is important to listen to them also but not to act on them. To learn from them. "keep your friends close and enemies even closer" -the saying goes.
      It's important to know you are capable of dark things if you let your monsters have their way. "know thy enemy" -is another saying.

    2:57 That is gold. Very enlightening. An example would be someone addicted to cigarettes. What beacons that person forward may be to stop smoking. If that person does not listen to that which beacons them forward, they may be ended due to lung cancer.

    Gurdjieff talked about these things. Things like will and aim, of several different "i"s that live in us. He says the answer is self remembering, and knowing that you cannot truly rememer yourself is the first step. Try to remember something in your day, for longer than a minute, i.e feel how you were in that moment or feel the passage of time even an hour ago, that is self - remembering. From this process, change can happen, and a Will be formed,

      Kaushik Mukundan I just checked that guy out because what you said sounded interesting, interesting guy. Did alot of traveling and developed his religion and gained followers circa 1900. The Fourth Way.
      Red flag for me was this:fourth way is knowledge. Satanists believe the same thing, gnosis they call it

    • @kaushikmukunda3095
      @kaushikmukunda3095 6 років тому

      I dont quite understand this gnosis, how is understanding of self satanistic?

    • @danquilty6580
      @danquilty6580 6 років тому

      Kaushik Mukundan not of self, but pursuit of knowledge for knowledge sake as the route to enlightenment. However the religion does venerate(?) the self above god

    • @kaushikmukunda3095
      @kaushikmukunda3095 6 років тому

      Ah i didnt know it venerated itself above god, i thought it was just a way of enlightenment. But i cant agree that the book says "pursuit of knowledge for knowledge sake as the route to enlightenment. " it actually warns against it, separating the intellectual, emotional and mechanical centres.

      If it upsets your emmotions and makes you have a remorse afterwards, it’s NOT what interests you. You’ll need to work hard to get rid of negative thoughts then your interest will present itself loud.

    Your thoughts are not your own. You are an individual to the extent that you have dignity, and deserve respect, but you are not an individual to the point where you get to own. You own nothing.
    You wouldn't ask Sir Isaac Newton how he knew calculus.
    This is why we call smart people "gifted"

    "Everyone makes an ego or a self for himself, which is subject to enormous variation because of its instability. He also makes an ego for everyone else he perceives, which is equally variable. Their interaction is a process that alters both, because they were not made by or with the Unalterable. It is important to realize that this alteration can and does occur as readily when the interaction takes place in the mind as when it involves physical proximity."
    ...... "Who is the "you" who are living in this world?"

    So if you want to study and that subconscious keeps thinking about taking a break and video games. I should listen to it? He forgot to say that what grips or interests you in most cases is hardly productive.

  • @Scarletraven87
    @Scarletraven87 6 років тому

    On the first half, he talk about interest as the literal distraction from beeing productive, the hook, the source of chaos. On the second half, he talks about it like it's our purpose.
    These are 2 opposites.

    • @Snowman-rn7eo
      @Snowman-rn7eo 4 роки тому +1

      There could be in your head the interest of somebody else that you believe to be yours but in reality is not. This is a source of chaos and turmoil.
      Also there could be your own inner interest that propels you to manifest your greatness and potential in your own ambitions.
      This is what I understood from this clip, that a false interest is destructive and a true interest is brilliant. :)

    I loved this video, great insight. I think culture shapes your interests. I think the circumstances you face throughout your life and the consequences of your actions also decide what motivates you and what you are interested in. I think it's important to experiment with different things to find what you are most passionate about and see if you can find opportunities you can find within that niche. Just some thoughts. Thanks for the upload.
