I'm actually working on a story right now that has another AL Central pitcher taking the award. Pablo Lopez looked incredible last season and the stats indicated he was getting unlucky! On top of that, his strikeout rate went up 6%, the largest gain for any qualified pitcher. At the same time his walk rate went down. This improvement came by him adding a sweeper and dropping his cutter. He did not successfully add the sweeper until mid-May and that is when things clicked. Up until that point he had a 4 ERA. His bullpen coach just told him to throw the sweeper harder and go for more strikeouts. After that point he was one of the best pitchers in the AL. After an entire off-season of working on the pitch, I can see him being even more dominant in 2024.
For my own mental health I need the promising Tigers players to be healthy. Skubal, Greene, Mize, Jobe, Manning etc. that division is wide open for anyone to take

Looking at the steps taken not just by Skubal, but the rise of dominant bullpen arms, development of guys like Beau Brieske, Reese Olsen and Alex Lange, and apparent resurgence of Casey Mize and Jack Flaherty (Both their Velos are wayyy up this Spring), I think the real story is how damn good Chris Fetter is. That man needs to be studied in a lab.
If he's healthy, and can win most of his starts, maybe. His biggest hurdle is going to be the team winning games. With that said, Ranger Suarez is the best pitcher in baseball right now, and no one saw that coming. He's been a very good starter for a few seasons, but his issues were getting deeper into games and strikeouts. Seems like he has finally been able to do that this year. No Visa issues, and no baseball classic in the offseason. I believe this was his first full spring training.
I mean yeah if he can throw 175 innings it’s his. But it’s just in all likelihood gonna be Gausman or Burnes or somebody on the mariners. Hell Joe Ryan looked he was gonna win it last year a couple months into the season. That being said the only answer is Nick Pivetta.

Look, he’s good. But, and I’m prolly gonna catch shit for this, but it’s the truth. He had one of the easiest schedules there was last year. OAK twice, CWS twice, BOS, LAA etc.
The Tigers have had such garbage pitching injury luck the last few years. E-Rod getting hurt and then leaving the country, Skubal flexor tendon issue, Mize TJ + additional back issue that kept him out for 2 seasons, Manning having 4 injuries in two years including breaking the same foot twice last year due to comebacker line drives hitting it.
Everything I’ve read indicates that their pitching development is near the top of the league, it’s only a matter of time before they get enough of these guys healthy and become one of the game’s better pitching staffs

Havent seen 1 person yet pick Lopez. In fact, Skubal might be the most picked player i have seen to win it outside of Maybe Corbin Burnes.

I love Lopez for 2024 as well.
Lopez can't pitch at home in Minnesota it's to cold first 2 months of the season he won't be good . He does start to heat up around mid season tho
