@vreaase d 8th ed LoS is pretty janky, any part of the model to any part of the target works (including banners, aerials etc). Cover does very little (+1 to your armour save) when the doomsday ark's weapon has a -5 AP modifier.
'D6 isn't that random' - it's very random, you have an equal chance of rolling any value 1-6 with each shot. If, however, you roll multiple times and average the roll, statistically it should average out (over a large number of rolls) to 3.5
Edit: he rolled hot! And no central LoS blocking terrain or other terrain to hide on turn 1. Unfortunate for the Blood Angels player.

Sure it is reliable... had a lot of games against Necrons and I learned to hate that Doomsday Ark... I felt so bad for JP in that moments cause I know that so well, and pretty great that he pulled it through!

Every Necron unit wielding gauss weapons *can* be a threat to tanks, but they have very few units specializing in it. They have to either field heavy destroyers or rely more on luck and volume of fire. I think that's what he was referring to.

There's plenty of people saying it, but let me add myself to that count; I want there to not exist even a shadow of the doubt: this is the format of the future. Concise, with a bit of flair. Excellent commentary, effects, edited in a way that cuts down the more time-consuming aspect of the game, and overall always moving forward. Please pat yourselves on the back for this. I could feel the anger coming from JP and Michael is a cheeky one but I’m glad he was such a good sport.
Saying "Unlucky Rolls" in W40K is just a sign of lack of experience, you can and will always be "lucky and unlucky" on both sides during a match.
[ Even if i must admit, the detonations were... Well... You know, but the damage cause by them were actualy really low. Like i said, you always find a balance. ]
It's still fun, that's the main thing.
Imo, if you get genuinely mad about bad rolls, you shouldn't play a game that depends on rolling

I was feeling a little bad for JP, that Doomsday Ark taking out the Repulsor so early was a critical blow.
But that comeback really shows how dangerous Blood Angels can be, and that they're not to be underestimated.

The game shouldnt hinge on a killing one decent unit early on but it generally does. Thats why going first really increases your win probability which is shit and the hallmark of a bad game.
@@Internetbutthurt Harsh but true, the lore and models keeps this game going strong imo cause the rules are a bit potato. How many UA-cam Batrep have you watch and knew before the end of turn one who the winner would be? And keep in mind that with very lucky dices rolls the necrons removed +- 600 pts before the Blood angel really started playing, thus a 1750 necron almost lost to a 1100 pts blood angel army and almost lost in 1 turn of blood angel CC? Boltaction ww2 table top game have a very interesting mechanic of ''dice in a bag'' for unit activation. Maybe GW need to get off their high horse and acknowledge that there are better rules out there. Just my humble opinion of course. But having spent so much time painting my models, and with life having time to play only a couple of game every 2 months or so, its very disheartening due to poor game rules/mechanics having games ends turn 1. But yet, for some reasons, im still addicted to wh40k.
@@Internetbutthurt there will always be the problem of first turn man, that's literally for any tatcal game on tablet top or even in video games. When you have a strong unit in your army it's very clear that they will strike at it first.
@@0neKingD0wn It didn't almost lose, it was a total wipeout if it continued to turn 6... The video is edited in that way so it was still exciting to watch, the game was decided in turn 2 as the Blood Angel player said so.
@0neKingD0wn - I also play Bolt Action and have wondered what 40k would be like with alternating actions versus entire player turns. While rules be rules, we find that 8th edition is still a lot of fun and improved over 6th and 7th. It is a game and we just have to find ways to have fun with the game.
Honestly, hats off to JP. Shows how important playing the objective is, no matter how badly you roll or how unfortunate the battle might be goig for your army

Not much of a blood angels Army to be honest with you either. It's more like a primaris army with some blood Angel elements🤔 I think the necron guy won this game in the list building phase😆
@@MarkPiggy79 lists were quite balanced in my opinion. Even despite numerous setbacks, JP still managed to keep the game relatively close points-wise. If JP had rolled better, this would have been a different game for sure.

I agree it was really bad luck losing the Repulsor on the first turn. However the two dreadnoughts out in the open was a huge mistake.
By the time the sanguinary guard came in and did anything the game was over😥
@@MarkPiggy79 Bad luck didn't end on Repulsor dying on first turn. It also exploded, same as dread on turn right after. So in 2 turns he lost 2 big units, both exploded and dealt extra dmg to units around. That is terrible set back.

As a BA player, I feel the executioner is way too much of a point sink, especially when you have to at least take 2 because 1 will most likely always be targeted/destroyed in turn 1 by most competitive armies. With that being said. 2 blobs of 8 sanguinary guard with supporting characters seems the way to go. Good job making it a competitive game by JP after a terrible start
I agree and BA don’t get any big buffs to vehicles so not much reason to taken them over melee units. However, a big problem with tabletop channels is that they focus too much on fluffy lists to make a “entertaining” video but that means people are more likely to underestimate BA when you use a proper list
@koolguy6601 yes, JP could have built a different list and he has a lot of scary units at his disposal. It is tough for us as curators to try and balance out lists when we set up these match ups.
@Lagmeiser - yes, we do prioritize entertainment because we feel there are a lot of other great resources out there that go over the competitive stuff. We ourselves as a group have many competitive players, often going to tournaments, but for our brand of battle reports we just want to give you amazing personalities and pretty models while also making a game of it.

I think the lists were pretty well balanced, and without skewing hard jump troop, the necrons get the tools to deal with what the BA player brought. It does require luck though. Our best tools are only good if nuffle is with you.
This was a really interesting and engaging way of showing people 40K. A ~45 minute watch time for a 1750 point game is totally worth the time to watch.
Man, JP was a great player. Even with the dice gods not being kind, he played an amazing game.

I played 40K before up until 2008, when I had to sell my Tyranids and Space Wolves. I was a college student and DESPERATELY needed money for food and rent. Dark times. This battle convinced me to go with Necrons as my army to get me back into the hobby and I haven't looked back since. And since I've got an Indomitus Box waiting for me on Saturday, and because JP's Blood Angels are sweet as hell nevertheless, I'm going with them for the Marine half of the box. This is gonna be a fun summer. :D

I would love to see a rematch of this, even if the tank got out the second turn the dreadnaught would be an issue just for another round. I saw something like this happenin my store, Baneblade v Baneblade and 1st turn it was gone and blew up destroying everything. I would also love to see a rematch of the Chaos and Imperial Knights, that guy really messed up the Castellion placement.
It is such a hard toss up. Get more armies. Get different players. Go for variety on the channel. Or just bring back amazing armies and awesome players again and again. We need a bigger studio and crew...

Thank you! We are hard at work with Season 2 as we had some challenges since restrictions came into play. We are keeping safe and at the same time not wanting to change up too much and diminish our quality.
Superb production values and beautiful armies. Play On Tabletop is raising the bar for UA-cam tabletop/miniature gaming battle reports and content.
A lot of thanks to this community. Fans have been incredibly supportive and provided great observations and suggestions that has lead us to improve from season one.
I love seeing a Necron army win against Space Marines. But, as is the case with my own Necrons. It was hot rolling on the Necron players side and cold rolling on the Space Marine player. Which ultimately led to victory. The fact the SM player lost all his armor and even exploded several times in the first two turns. And still managed to come back and pose a threat. Just goes to show how much the Necron codex needs updating, bad.
P.S. I almost shat myself with the tyranid pop-scare during the closing statement. Thanks, lol.

While true that they need rules updates. I would still give a lot more credit to J.P since he really played to the mission and was very patient with the DS units.
@@danielatar4686 regardless of player skill. He lost his tank turn one without it doing anything because of the dice. And then lost a dreadnought each subsequent turn. While one managed to kill a handful of warriors (that got back up). If any one of those units had stayed on the field to roll more shots. The necron player would have lost. Since the SM's would have been able to kill destroyers and/or tomb blades with the firepower. And without the concerted focus-fire on his deepstrike unit. The necrons would not have been able to clear them on the next turn. And they would have just chewed through everything. lol

Kind of amuses me when he said. "If you turtle with BA your playing them wrong." Then he proceeds to turtle and hold objectives. Commentator calls it too, saying it was a mistake not to assault on turn 2.
I always find it so interesting when things like this happen. Sometimes your best plans just don't play out and you need to readjust on the fly. It did feel weird, however he was able to make it a close game even after losing so much in T1. Interesting the flow of the game sometimes.
@@PlayOnTabletop I think he was just a bit nervous about being tabled in a few turns after his massive point sink blew up. He had no plan for how to deal with that advancing necron gun line. The Dreadnaught weren't going to hold up standing out in the open, nor were a tiny line of marines that were half hiding, yet seemed surprise when they got exploded one by one. He was never going to out shoot them with the tank gone. As a BA fan I had hoped to see a necron slaughter but sadly didn't happen xD
Not nervous at all. Just not expecting to lose 340 pts of your army that hits hard after turn 1. Never has happened to me before so need to change up the game plan and acquire as many points as I can. At that point you have to look to see what's left in your list and make the most out of them. Going second second helps because it allows me more control of the situation and turn to get the points I need.
@@jasonpeterson5396 Nice of you to throw in! And yeah I saw your reasoning in the video, I just didn't agree with it. I think with BA, you might of been best to just follow your own advise, no guts no glory. Drop the smash captain behind enemy lines with some CP and have the dreads assaulting once they got close enough. You were able to tie up the game at one point, but it was very obviously only going to be for a single turn and not a serious attempt for a draw. Got unlucky in the later rolls but the necron turn after was always going to be savage with all their guns in range and no where near enough of them dead. Although I think it would of been a much more interesting game if you hadn't had such horrible luck with the charges. Main point was, never were going to outshoot them after the tank blew up. Either took them in combat or just stalled until they shot the hell out of the army.
Also your paint job is incredible, do you have a a place with just lots of upclose shots of the army? I kept pausing the video at the start to admire them.

It's ok in this matchup, necron are pretty much the worst faction in the game but they have sort of a "counter the meta role" where they can really fuck up marines chapters but they get absolutely dumpstered by almost all the other factions...one of my best friends plays necrons and last time i played chaos space marines he really hurted me and even using the most meta chaos list we went 14 to 14 Just because of my linebreaker point...but when i played my main army... full daemons of nurgle list with 9 plague toads tons of screens epidemius and daemonprinces...holy hell I FUCKING DUMPSTER HIM every time.
Another of my friends plays orks and i have seen him mulch necrons like crazy

When I first saw the video I thought damn this is the 40k Game Knights (it's a show runned by the command zone about mtg commander) and I love it so much, you add your own personality with your creative edits, the camera angles are so clean and you identify really well when to introduce commentaries from the players to build up the viewers expectations. Well done sir I belive you'll set a new standard for battlereports and hopefully you can grow into a huge channel, because with the amount of work you put in you deserve it. The commentary is really helpful. It helps me understand whats going on so much. I like how the commentator is also not afraid to question the decisions players make- makes it feel like I'm watching the NFL. High production value also helps.

I did not expect the fight to go that way. Some crazy good rolls at the beginning for Michael to just point and delete some very scary heavy units.
That's what I don't understand. He's like "My unit isn't that strong". I'm sorry but any unit that can one shot a redemptor a turn while camping in the backline is not "Weak" by any capacity.
@@alicethegreat8208 Its only "weak" because it can swing really widely. You can end up with really low shots and/or low damage if you roll poorly. Or, you one shot a Repulsor.
Consistency in damage/attacks is the preferable strategy most of the time, rather than a chance of rolling high.
@Alice the Great it's 'not strong' in that you can can oneshot a redemptor, *or* you might just boop it for like 2 damage because you rolled hadly. If your model accounts for like a tenth of your army's points you generslly want something a little more reliable
Necron vehicles have the advantage of Quantum Shielding, though. Other factions' tanks are usually way easier to remove. DDay can sometimes miss with it's cannon but will most likely stay there for some time
Finally getting around to watching this. Great game with amazing looking armies and good personalities. The quality of these reports is simply second to none also. Well done. And don’t worry JP you’ll get him next time! For Sanguinius!
Honestly the best Batrep i've seen. (admittedly not many) I have a hard time sitting around for 2-4 hours watching someone else play a game. this I can genuinely focus on and enjoy. Even or especially as a newbie, I understood everything that was going on mechanically, if not the depths the of the strategies. Sub'd

I stumbled upon your battle reports somehow by accident and really enjoyed season 1. I then tried looking for other similar channels but that made me realise just how good the production for these shows is; I don't even play 40k and so my rules and units knowledge is very fragmented, but having the edits, visual effects and commentary really helps follow the game when combined with a condensed duration. Looking forward to more!

Amazing game! Had me glued to the screen waiting to see what will happen. Despite the ludicrous rolls at the beginning it was very hard fought and definitely showed how great both of the players are. As always the coverage was superb and I think we’re all excited to see what’s coming next. Thanks for the great work guys! The effort definitely shows 👍

I just started getting into the hobby during this whole quarantine thing and I have to say these are the most well produced and filmed gameplays of Warhammer out there. The play by play from both competitors as well as the announcer offering more information and an outside take. Dynamic camera angles that do a great job of showing where everything is relative to each other. Brilliant work I look forward to watching a lot more of this channel!

This channel is amazing, the editing and flow is very easy to follow for newbs i imagine. i havnt played in years but this stuff is amazing, 9.5/10. sometimes the voices are a bit quiet and the music a bit too loud but it sure brings energy to the video.
Sometimes a gremlin enters the room and weird things happen to the edit machines. We also once had a child trip over the power cable 4 hours before release... We are glad you enjoy the show and we are working hard to fend off future gremlins.

So, I've never played 40k before, but this is easy to follow along for the most part. It seems relatively cool, and both players seem to be having a blast. It makes it fun to watch.
I'm not a huge fan of 40k but I'm here ... Binge watching your 40k battrep. Congratulations guys ! Your way to capture the action, edit and special effects blew out my mind. 🤯

40k in 40m, and the previous season 40k in 30m are this format and we do aim to complete seasons of this
I feel like it was a mistake to bring big, easily killed pieces like the 2 redemptors and the repulsor. Feeding the army piecemeal to the necrons and waiting till turn 3 meant they took no serious losses. The necrons had all of their major assets still in play at the end, when they should have lost most of them to a huge BA attack. More death company, more forlorn fury... the smash captain died without even doing anything. Bad calls for BA, I think.
Dreadnoughts and tanks are fine for blood angels. As is constantly demonstrated, an army with a lot of screen like necrons can really easily force all the damage dealers like the guard or the death company to deploy far from the good units, where they’ll be ripped apart the next turn. I personally think his mistakes lie in not tucking the repulsor out of line of sight of that doomsday ark, and not playing nearly aggressively enough. Marines in general can dominate in combat, and he really needed to be there turn 2. Wether it was tossing his captain up into the ark, throwing Mephiston way foreword with wings to smash the tomb blades earlier on, or moving everyone up to smash the warriors, he really couldn’t afford to start as conservatively as he did.
@@nathanieleck1023 They don't really utilize the strongest suits of the blood angels, do they? It's not as if these necrons had wonderful screening- the destroyers, a key target, were constantly exposed, and the doomsday arc could have been destroyed in turn 1 if he had used forlorn fury. He managed to protect his lych guard, but everything else was wide open for attack.
They do make good use of the general Combat Doctrine rules, getting those bonuses to their heavy weapons T1 and then their small arms fire in the following turn. Space Marines (in a general sense) can definitely build a more rounded force but I agree that his army doesn't seem to utilize the blood angel rules as heavily. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, just a different strategy
@@PlayOnTabletop They're not bad units, but I don't think them being useful for shooting in _one turn_ is a strong argument, especially with such mid-range firepower. If those points had gone to a big blob of death company and some aggressors, for example, he would have been in a much better spot to deal with those huge blobs. To me, it seemed pretty obvious who was going to win after turn 2 rolled around.
Greatkingrat88, well that’s another topic, sure death company and guard can hit hard, but blood angels can struggle with making more than 1 or 2 charges out of deepstrike, as there’s only so many strategems. And all of those units are super fragile, and against an army like necrons, would’ve been pretty much wiped away. Sure blood angels have their own unique strengths, but all space marines in general have some similar strengths and while the blood angel CC is incredible, it’s not a reason to ignore all of the other buffs to put all your points into that.
