4 Key Characteristics about Buddhism

  • From the conversations the Buddha had with his followers we are able to learn some important aspects about Buddhism and the reason why the Buddha taught what he did. In this video I introduce some sutras that highlight four key characteristics about the Buddha's teachings. In particular this video investigates whether blind faith is the order of the day in Buddhism or whether there is room for logical analysis and personal investigation, whether we need to expand our theoretical knowledge before we begin any sort of practice, and whether Buddhism is something that we should or shouldn't become attached to.

I got deeply into Buddhism a couple years back and made great advances before losing my way getting sidetracked obsessed with conspiracy theory etc found on here... Im trying to reaffirm what i learned and remembered your videos being of great help and now revisiting. So easy to grasp for the beginner/layperson i will spend a lot of time letting it all sink in again. Thank you once again, namaste

I plan to make a video on Buddhism and vegetarianism in the coming months. :) The short answer to this is that the Buddha never said we had to become vegetarian, but many people would say that to live a life of non-violence and compassion would necessitate one to be vegetarian. I'm not completely vegetarian. 85% of my meals are veg but I would say that I am aspiring to be 100% veg again one day.

Brilliant video from Mindah-Lee-Kumar. Buddhism worked for me. Strangely enough I combined it with a Western Teaching known as Rudolf Steiners Anthroposophy.(Since 1966) But I learnt Vipassana Meditation in 1980 at a Theravada Buddhist Temple in London UK. And I stuck with the Teaching, And I crossed over. Wow!

I heard if we eat vegetables only ,we become more pure and we can do easier meditation and easier keep us from any bad thoughts . Vegetables have higher vibration . I hope you understand it :-) Thanks the video !

Nice work. A question: Why seek happiness at all? Isn't the desire to lessen suffering and promote happiness just another attachment? Aren't happiness and suffering both impermanent and fundamentally empty?

I have a really good question please answer. At my prime meditation levels I experienced amazing peace and spiritual heightening. It was simply amazing. I have been working to get back there. I'm wondering if you could explain the middle ground of enlightenment. I don't feel like I was fully enlightened but I was very well within the vicinity.

The Buddha is not a god, he is not omniscient nor infallible. He is the founder; the one who founded its basic theory (The Buddhist theory or the Four Noble Truths). Buddhism should be a living religion; not bound by tradition and continuously reforming itself and expanding its horizons.

Is it possible to be a Confucius Scholar and a Buddhist at the same time, or do they conflict as in one being non spiritual. They seem to both have the same core truths. Also I'm confused about pure land in Chan. Is not pureland the here and now. That we should make the most of to do good? Though other Scholars have told me it is a heaven. I've found your teaching very clear, as it is sometimes hard to understand some Masters. Curious also of time spent in Temple life. The thought of taking the vows has circled in my mind for awhile now. The fear of getting home sick or , being above the age. Shoalin I see bright faces warmth ,energy in eyes and kindness. Though I've heard life at Temple is hard and very strict. What you have said here helps with some of the fears. I see this same energy among the Monks & Nuns when his Holiness The Dalai Lama speaks.Do you have to know sanskrit to enter into Temple life.

In recent times, I have become convinced that to be expected to follow a religion blindly ie Christianity for instance, where you are required to have "faith", because otherwise the dogma false flat, is something only the Devil would require of His followers. And no, I don't believe in the Devil or God. Just saying that surely God would require no need to follow Him blindly with the support of faith. On the other hand, of late I am finding that the teachings of the Buddha come across as humane, logical and offers peace within within my own mind and that is a very attractive thing to one's own spirituality.
