    I'm studying to become a teacher here in Norway, and, among others, religion is one of my subjects. Last year, I watched your videos when I attended the introduction course in religion and I got a B on my exam. Thank you for that. This year, I have my advanced course in religion and I use your videos for my repetition. A huge shout out for you; this says a lot about your teaching quality and credibility. Love your videos :-)

    I have named my main distraction (my thoughts re: my romantic relationship) to my meditation "Mara". When these thoughts, desires and perceptions arise I say "Go away Mara". It has helped me greatly!

      +Angela Allen I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing. But I heard in a sermon by my teacher of Buddhism Ven. kiribathgoda gnanananda thero that, todays world is controlled by God Mara (who is the leader to pleasuring 6 senses) and his army of gods in a very discrete manner, when I see how much the world has changed and how much addicted we are to pleasure our senses and to do everything in order to achieve that, I see that what my teacher is saying is very true.
      And he said best thing to do is to follow the noble eight fold path and not to ever mention by word things like "I'm going to attain nirvana this life" etc, because every such thing we say will make us a target to you know who, and he will make sure we will not achieve that. He asked us to make fact that we are following eight fold path a private matter, and follow the percepts and Dhamma correctly and it will protect us from Mara.

    Thanks Stephen! I’m glad you fully appreciate my ‘enthusiasm’ and can experience some of the joy I have received through my Buddhist studies and practice. I had to laugh that you were exercising at the same time. It’s probably not the most traditional way to listen to Buddhist talks, but I don’t see the harm it. ;) Happy watching and exercising ;)

    I haven't experienced past life experience, but, I have always felt like I don't belong to this era, I've always felt I'm and Indian (I'm originally an Ex-Muslim Syrian) I always have this feeling that I wanna go back to the simple times just before the invention of the steam engine, and I always have this urge to go back to India to continue my life there with "my people".

    Buddha and His Dhamma : Dr. B.R Ambedkar. kindly read that book. Ambedkar revived Buddhism in India. He is first person in Asia who got PhD in economics. He born as a untouchables but converted into Buddhism. He is father of indian constitution. He is social reformer and lawyer and teacher and editor.

    Hey Mindah,
    Just got through watching this one while on the treadmill and really enjoyed it. You have a bright, joyful way of telling it (Maybe that's why you are the Enthusiastic Buddhist! :-)), but also hearing it from someone who knows the story so well, is so passionate about it, I feel it emotionally, as if it were a "living" thing, which is a great inspiration and motivation, as well as a great gift you have to give. Warm regards, Stephen.

    I love your videos, I've learned so much from them! I just have a question, what's the meaning of the lotus flower in the Buddhist tradition?

    • @EnthusiasticBuddhist108
      @EnthusiasticBuddhist108  7 років тому +10

      It symbolizes the compassion and purity of our mind mostly. Just like a lotus can live in the muddy pond but be untouched by the mud around it (mud rolls off it), when we're awakened we can still live in this world, without being affected by others' defilements. You can look upon all with compassion and non-attachment and not be affected by others abuse, insults or other negative behavior.

    Hey...I've been loving your videos!
    I have a question. I've been reading about Buddhism and slowly learning it and have been practicing it in my daily life for the last three years. I DO struggle with getting into a regular meditation routine though so I've been feeling like I want to be around like-minded people and was thinking of joining a center in my area, to learn more and to meditate with other people. The thing is, there are quite a few and they're all different and I have NO IDEA where to go and when I google the different types I get confused or there is controversy around ones being "cultish" etc. Do you have any advice? I'm finding it all a bit overwhelming!

    One issue I have: if Buddha didn’t know about death, then how did he borrow reincarnation from Hinduism? I had heard that Buddhism borrowed heavily from Hinduism, but did The Buddha not know much about it until after being exposed to these hardships?

    I DO NOT MEAN TO OFFEND Anyone and It's all Good in Buddhism teaching, I am from Nepal the Land of Buddha. But my question is , Buddha also left his family alone (including a young son) and how does Buddhism teach to gain salvation? Buddha also made a mistake in his life I'd have to guess , right? So, how can salvation and freedom from sin be earned? Certainly doing good deeds later on can not clear the previous history of wrongs.

    • @QuinnyKR
      @QuinnyKR 8 років тому +1

      +Samuel Romalo Reason he left his family is for a great course. To save the wise from the cycle of life and death (Samsara). So it's not a mistake or a sin. And most important thing is that his son and wife both became monks under Buddha and both of them achieved nirvana and ended their cycle of life and death.
      Salvation in Buddhism is not through someone else but through oneself unlike in other religions where salvation is achieved through a creator or a god etc. We believe noble eight fold path is the way to cleanse our sins and to achieve salvation or as we call it Nirvana.

    Left the palace at age of 29 and reached enlightenment at age of 35??... that doesn't add up, because i thought he spent 6 years starving himself to detach himeslf from the cravings of the physical body?
