I love all your videos, I've been meditating for two years, it has had a profound impact on my life, and I recently decided to go farther and explore all of Buddhism and its teachings. Your videos and resources have been very helpful. This video really resonated with me, I was a stupid teenager too ;)

Very good point she makes on bringing other's past into our present....gossip probably falls into that grey-area category. Listening others talk about others is bringing up the past. So not only is gossip a story telling but often it is trying to evoke (yours or someones) past, usually in a negative way.

I appreciate your humility, authenticity, and wisdom. In 'The Way of Non-Attachment,' Dhiravamsa writes: "The real work is not just to suspend, but to work through this matter of ego. It is a painful way...Often we do not like to see something unpleasant. There is a tendency to avoid it; to go to sleep psychologically. We suppress it by turning away, by taking up something else, but anything which is suppressed will have explosive strength." Your explanations are truthful. I won't burn my diaries, but I will learn to love myself and forgive myself, for the darker periods of my life that have shaped who I am right now. I am grateful for your poignant videos. Thank you so much!

I liked this one too, especially how the practice of letting go actually came to life and made more sense when you got to the point of explaining what burning your diaries was all about.

What if you had not tried to forget those past memories in your diary and instead noted any lessons you were learning at that time? What if you merely tried to see things differently? You could forgive that past hurt that way even though you might not have changed what had actually happened. When I got fired at a previous job I thought the manager was out to get me. Seeing it differently, I saw that manager actually projected his feeling that he was not good enough for his boss onto me making me look like I’m not good enough to work for him. I remembered how stressed I felt yet I never saw my manager differently from me because I also saw his stress in his constant nail biting and actually felt bad for him that he was not enjoying life. That he was as unhappy as I was. In this way you could probably bring a lesson you learned into the present instead of an event which would create a future when you project that past in front of you.

I made some notes of a few notable dreams during my meditation retreats. But I limited myself to only a few sentences for each. I haven't revisited those notes though; like I said, it was only a few dreams. I am more curious about my future dreams and how they might evolve. :) The dreams I recall of my youth were mostly nightmares, so I'm happy to forget them! :)

It’s funny you saying about diaries. I had several five year diaries and I came to exactly the same conclusions. I thought that I was keeping them as a way of trying to hold onto the past. Even though they were often awful I still wanted to keep them. But what I found was I could hardly recognise the person in the diaries! I decided to get rid to stop holding on and being free now. I don’t regret at all!

I destroyed my old dream diaries (from age earlier than 10!) and always regret it.
Basicly I did it because I didn't want anyone else to read them. It would be nice when I become 80 to read my old dreams from when I was 8.

Reading your childhood diary when you're an adult is hilarious. Also, it can help you learn other things about yourself. For example, I discovered that before my medical condition had been diagnosed, at age 9, I knew something was medically wrong.

I'm just 10 years old and I'm really interested in Buddhism!! Don't you think that if your Buddhism in this life then maybe we were someone who new the Buddha in our past life's I go to a Buddhist temple in Dayton and one of the lamas told me that in a past life u could have been much like you are now !! So I was wondering about your opinion on that anyways get back to me on that as soon as you can oh and thinks for teaching me but not only me a whole lot of other people thank u so much

What a positive message you have received at such an early age in this life. It is well known that even Siddhartha Gautama came to see all of his past lives once he became awakened. Knowing this gives you a great opportunity to continue on your path to enlightenment. If enlightenment is not reached in this life. I believe it makes it more likely that you will pick up somewhere you left off in the next life. :) What a wonderful piece of wisdom you have found, I am so happy for you....

Wrong! Completely dead wrong!!! Now, I realize that I troll Mindah's channel here and there, but I like Mindah, and am Vgtame about it! And it's just trolls. And Mindah can delete them, and I won't get angry or offended. Religion, is inappropriate for a 10 year old child.....PERIOD!
Now, upon saying that, swallow this: If I was stinking rich and had children, I would contact Mindah, and have her teach my children about religion. She on a one one basis (as a payed employee of my wife and me,) could come up with certain practices (from a Buddhist perspective,) that would be appropriate and beneficial for a child! I know you didn't intend any harm by it, but your an adult. And I sure do hope that the child who was online here, was present, as the internet has a lot of things to watch out for. This is not an attack on Buddhism!

    Oooh I've been sooooo...
    "When a person lives heedlessly,
his craving grows like a creeping vine.
    He runs now here
    & now there,
    as if looking for fruit:
    a monkey in the forest."

It sounds wonderful, to practice "kind forgetfulness". Unfortunately there are people, even loved ones, who would take advantage of such blank slate ideals. How do we overcome this in our relationships with people?

    • @deaconblue9038
      @deaconblue9038 10 років тому

***** I thank you for your answer I hadn't thought it that way. How do we protect ourselves from being taken advantage for our forgiving nature. Many times people don't appreciate our efforts

Buddhists say that craving is the root of suffering. One thing I don't understand is that we have natural cravings like to have friends, fun, achievement in life, having a mate and other things. So how can you truly eliminate craving then? Or is the idea to have the most satisfaction as possible in the present moment while still craving or desiring those things and learning to balance?

the intent of my formal practice is to be in the present not ruminating on the past or the future, and the intent of my practice in the day to day is to meet others with openness and no stigma. I hope I took the right thing away from this video :)
