I feel exactly the same. Sometimes even thinking about this track brings me tears. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" - I hope those will be my last words too.
The movie showed the power of a story, a story can rule the world. Especially if the story brings the promise of everlasting life be it real or imagined.
There is a part of you that is not atheist. One day Jesus will come to you though the holy spirit. The funny thing is God works on his time, not yours.
As a Christian, I can't explain how important this movie is. It shows the truest difference between those who use the bible for evil and those who use it to help and care for others, like it was meant to be. It shows how powerful and important faith is and that even in a world where humans slaughter and eat each other, the flower of hope can still blossom even if surrounded by fire and death. It's truly incredible and I can't help but thank my Father and worship Him at the end of this movie.
As a Christian this shows r reality that is soon to come, we must have faith to diminish the sins that run rampart the sins that destroy us from within and will destroy our race and wellbeing
The song perfectly encapsulates Eli’s journey. You can feel the way the song shifts and becomes less focused on his trek through the wasteland and more into his retelling of the Bible in peace, such a great piece of music
This song is just so amazing; I watched this so many times and I've never felt so connected to a movie in my entire life. A Religious man within a corrupt and destroyed world; whilst this kind of world isn't exactly visible to him, but with all of his faith and senses he can see just that even if his eyes don't work the way they should. Always go west; a type of dedication and determination rare found within the human race. He kept going west and made it to where he was supposed to be, maybe not himself but towards the girl that picked up on this faith and fought the good fight, finishing the race. Keeping the faith.
This soundtrack has stopped me from pulling the trigger so many times.... I'm not religious, but there's something utterly tranquil and ethereal to this... I cannot help but go weak and cry, but it's enough to keep me here...

If the average Joe could accomplish Jack to help himself through “self-belief”, the world wouldn’t be perpetually under the thumb of the greedy, apathetic, and corrupt. The very best the common man comes up with is standing in the street waving signs and screaming about their rights while the higher ups sit in their lofty towers and laugh at the inanity. All the so-called self-reliance and determination in the world, in the end, amounts to nothing more than hubris peddled to the self-important to make them *think* they themselves will make a difference, when really, by their efforts the very best they could accomplish is merely continuing to put the weak and corruptible into power while status quo remains the same. As such, it’s no coincidence that the only TRULY remarkable, game-changing, world impacting people who ever walked this Earth all gave themselves over to the will of a Power much greater than themselves. They weren’t “self-righteous”: they acknowledged they had no true righteousness or power in and of themselves, they could only achieve it through humility and submission to their the one who Made them. People like Martin Luther King Jr., Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Fry, Helen Keller, Mother Theresa-the world never afforded the lot of them any illusions of self-reliance. But they didn’t need it. They had Something much greater. Failure to acknowledge this truth amounts to nothing more than self-willed blindness. A pitiable determination to run incessantly on the hamster wheel of self-reliance and self-importance over nothing more than sheer foolish pride. In the end, it doesn’t matter how people with agendas interpreted the Word. The Word speaks for itself, and what it speaks is simple, inalienable Truth that no amount of “self belief” or “self perception” will ever supersede.
Denzel Washington is truly one of the greatest actors of our time. First class performance in every movie he's ever played in and "The Book of Eli" is no exception.
✝ 2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race . I have kept the faith." ✝ 2 Timothy 4:8 "As for the remainder, a crown of justice has been reserved for me, one which the Lord, the just judge, will render to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to those who look forward to his return. Hurry to return to me soon."
Its amazing that people are finally feelinf this movie after 4 years, when it came out in 2010 the film critics trashed it for being to christian and for its over emphasis on the bible but i believe movie is giving us a glimps of the earth after the last great War when all the nuclear missiles are used and only a remnant of mankind is left on the earth and the vast emptiness that will be this planet.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful theme tunes I have ever heard from a film I adore. No matter how many times I hear it, I still sit in rapt silence with a lump in my throat and tingles running up and down my back.
Everything about The Book of Eli is stunning. The visuals, the soundtrack, the performances by every actor and actress, it is criminally underrated. The message behind the story is so powerful. Finally how awesome was Gary Oldman? I know he's a legendary actor but when he plays the bad guy he takes it to the highest level.
Somehow this song had a huge impact in my life, in the way I saw things walking down my way out of highschool. I can't possibly be the only one, that saw beyond good and evil, the calm and peace of clouds running by with this music.
The only beyond good and evil is the good and only good. Sublimity has been mistaken for the infinite reprise of beauty. Both the said and the ineffable are moments in the beautiful; both the fitting and the utter infinity of goodness which is overflowing and so full of words and clarity and delight that no single word can exhaust its meaning, or its loveliness. Beyond good and evil does not mean not good or evil. Peace is not bereft of goodness. Goodness is peace, and peace is goodness. Peace is not bereft of passion. Passion is peace, and peace is passion. Peace is not apathetic. Peace feels only bliss, and tastes only sweetness, but does not conceive of pain. Pain breaks its sword on peace, but peace does not raise a sword. Peace does not does need chaos to feel itself. Peace is the Atman that revels in itself. Power was foiled at Golgotha; they came looking for the living among the dead, and found no dead man; but nor did they find a ghost, but a living, breathing man, who was the living Atman, who is awake within the world its home. They touched him because he was flesh. They saw the color of his eyes because they did have color. They glimpsed the face of Brahman, because he has a face, because he IS a face, because he is always with his humanity. There was no time for sleep. He did not become himself by sleeping, but awoke into himself, living in the world his home. Brahman is awake and breathing, and his name is you and me. You are made of love, loved into being by love to love and to have love and for love's sake and nothing but love's sake. There was no "necessary reason", no need, no ground, just groundless, boundless love. You are love tasting itself.
Muslim here.. and as Muslims we love Jesus (as) even though we don't consider him the way Christians do.. and this movie was really heart touching. The faith, the behaviour, the Trust, the mission, the protection and closeness to the Book.. everything was amazing..
This soundtrack is so powerful, it puts you in that situation. Imagine being in the post apocalypse knowing what the world was like before it happened. The loneliness, everything you ever loved, hated and knew is now gone FOREVER and doing you’re best to adjust or adapt to the apocalyptic world.
It's scary to think about this happening in real life...and it's never too late to repent, ask Father God to be your Lord and Savior! His LOVE is so GREAT, POWERFUL and UNCONDITIONAL!
There will be a time in your life that you’ll be convinced of the existence of your creator. Remember that time and you’ll have a choice to make. Till then
The spirit never dies , the spirit is energy , cannot be created or destroyed , dust to dust , spirit to spirit , the body goes back to the dust , the spirit goes back to God from which it came, youl see and realize sooner than you think , for this life is but a vapor , but the life of the spirit is eternal , so i agree with you ' everything dies , but the spirit is not a thing , we are a spirit that has a soul that lives in a body . we are not just a body ... i could say so much more...
He luchado buenas batallas, he terminado la carrera, he guardado la fe
This is the track you play as you take one last look up to the sky. One last drag on your cigarette. One last breath in, as an unearthly feeling passes through you. Everything is happening and yet everything is over. You look to the heavens and close your eyes as the fire rains down. The world you once knew, burning, dissolving right before your eyes, this haunting melody echoing in your very soul.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in Green Pastures, he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ~Psalm 23

Typically i dont care for "pre fight prayers" but something hella profound in the bar scene where he just puts his stuff down and says "Cursed be the ground, for our sake. Both thorns and thistles shall it bring forth, for us, for out of the ground we were taken for the dust that we are... and to the dust we shall return." Like eveyrone int he bar is just like.. wtf...
It wasn't a prayer. It was a recitation of the Biblical precept Eli knew was about to come to pass - that in the Curse on creation due to the sin of Adam in the Garden, both mortality and pain would become humanity's lot in a now frail life. Thorns and thistles and subsistence living under the jackboots of violence, exploitation and oppression were all ours now. The quote was from the book of Genesis, pronounced by God upon errant humanity. Remember what he gave his life up to do .. preserve the Bible's truth. He was reminding them what was about to happen. And everyone in the bar didn't have a clue. He knew and he did
"Eu já estou sendo derramado como oferta de bebida. Está próximo o tempo da minha partida. Combati o bom combate, terminei a corrida, guardei a fé." 2 Timóteo 4
Anyone here in 2022 listening this amazing album. I love it! The film although the most critics didn't like it, I found that spiritual connection. It's a journey about hope and faith. One day, maybe not in our lifetime, someone will caused a massive disaster on our planet where billions of human lives will be destroyed. Also, the Earth can be destroyed by by many other ways. Famine, Climate Crisis, Meteorite Showers, etc. Humans have both capabilities, to do good deeds and to make horrific ones.
I remember the one time I got Baker Acted in my life at the mental facility they allowed me to pick out the movie for us patients. At the scene when "how can you mend a broken heart" played everyone of us hoodlums and sadness folks all started crying and looked at each other including old man Mr Curtis the broken down old black friend. I'll never forget the unity of that moment of us all in our life.
I watched this movie with my pops from a hospital bed. I had already seen it many times, he never regained consciousness but I hope he heard me talk about it with him.
The church I go to is doing its summer series at the movies, today this movie was the one used..gave me chills and brought me to my feet and my knees at the same time. 93% of all homes in America have at least one bible, yet many of us neglect the reading of it.
+Nuff I do, for one..Christianity is still the most popular religion(though it's about a relationship with God and not just following certain rules) and 93% of all homes in the USA have at least one bible in them. The bible is still the most sold, and stolen book in publication as well.
Higher-self real, synonymous with factual. the Bible isn't also you can't prove something didn't happen that's fucking stupid. its up to you to prove IT did happen.
My wife and I split up nearly six years ago , our 13yr old son suffered the most , apparently he used to play this on his phone walking home from his new school ( where he had a tough time be accepted) and my son and I hated being apart. He’s now a Commando , and a better man than me x
The visuals and atmosphere of the movie are amazing, but the characters and plot are a bit dull. The reviews are split right down the middle and it's kind of where I am too.

1:13 Billions before, billions behind, a soul moves towards the unknown. Miles ahead, workers toil amidst a junkyard of old metals. Each soul wonders: is this heaven, hell, but this is place of less comfort? This is their eternal home, and faith will guide them as they move forward in the endless line.

I never forgot this sound. It's a surprisingly good soundtrack for such a niche movie. I love playing it on piano with a synth effect.
Keeping the faith.
over the past like 5 years, I have listened to this every night to fall asleep.
Wow.. every night?

This soundtrack has stopped me from pulling the trigger so many times.... I'm not religious, but there's something utterly tranquil and ethereal to this... I cannot help but go weak and cry, but it's enough to keep me here...
Keep fighting the good fight

✝ 2 Timothy 4:7
"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race . I have kept the faith."
✝ 2 Timothy 4:8
"As for the remainder, a crown of justice has been reserved for me, one which the Lord, the just judge, will render to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to those who look forward to his return. Hurry to return to me soon."
A great movie, you can feel all the emotions, and yes, it is rare when directors are able to do that. Denzel is amazing, as usual :-)
Will you reply 7 years later?
One of the most hauntingly beautiful theme tunes I have ever heard from a film I adore. No matter how many times I hear it, I still sit in rapt silence with a lump in my throat and tingles running up and down my back.

Everything about The Book of Eli is stunning. The visuals, the soundtrack, the performances by every actor and actress, it is criminally underrated. The message behind the story is so powerful. Finally how awesome was Gary Oldman? I know he's a legendary actor but when he plays the bad guy he takes it to the highest level.
It's not a book! It's a weapon!
Somehow this song had a huge impact in my life, in the way I saw things walking down my way out of highschool. I can't possibly be the only one, that saw beyond good and evil, the calm and peace of clouds running by with this music.
Is it you nietzsche
I will never ever get tired of this movie or the soundtrack as it resonates with the power and protection of Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour!
Muslim here.. and as Muslims we love Jesus (as) even though we don't consider him the way Christians do.. and this movie was really heart touching. The faith, the behaviour, the Trust, the mission, the protection and closeness to the Book.. everything was amazing..

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8
"But I am a man of unclean lips"
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in Green Pastures, he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

God bless all who are brought here. Much love to all those fighting the good fight.
Typically i dont care for "pre fight prayers" but something hella profound in the bar scene where he just puts his stuff down and says "Cursed be the ground, for our sake. Both thorns and thistles shall it bring forth, for us, for out of the
ground we were taken for the dust that we are... and to the dust we
shall return." Like eveyrone int he bar is just like.. wtf...
similar to that famous Pulp Fiction scene

At the scene when "how can you mend a broken heart" played everyone of us hoodlums and sadness folks all started crying and looked at each other including old man Mr Curtis the broken down old black friend. I'll never forget the unity of that moment of us all in our life.
