Saw this video and thought, "WOW. I need to buy this." Went to eBay. And then I looked over at my shelf. I already have one. Covered in dust, and without the landing gear (who knows where that is). And yes, this is a GREAT Viper. Now excuse me as I run around the room with it...
For some reason it just struck me how much huge the engines are on the Viper as a % of the total size of the ship compared to an x-wing! No wonder they seem so fast especially with turbo boost! Something I see on many models but has confused me is the adjustable lower wings, that were included on the infamous Viper toy with non firing missiles. I don't remember ever seeing them move or change in the show, although that would have been really cool!
Geez, i thought this looked familiar. I have both the Blue Squadron and Silver Spar Squadron versions as well as a Cylon Raider, buying them online from Big Bad Toy Store. I learned you always buy two of each, one to display and one to keep in box to possibly resale later. I have to admit, i liked these as opposed to the TrendMasters version which were horrible.I hear the Viper Launching theme in my head just looking at it. :)
Yea, but it looks like Twiki or Boxy is flying it. I have a resin model of the studio miniatures(not actual), that trumps them all. The casting is very crisp compared to the model kits. I was at my local comiccon, someone had created a large scale viper. Somewhere over 20 inches in length. But they didn't tweak the greebles for the larger model. It didn't look right. But at first glance it had it's own wow factor.
I remember the first wave of these was much darker grey. The second wave and the Silver Spar viper were closer to what we saw on screen. The dark one is kind of cool though!
I had the Silver Spar variant. The plastic was a bit warped but I never tried twisting it back into shape. My biggest complaint was that the pilot was way too small.
So I have loved this show since it first aired, but as a small child Down Under there was few toys my family could get. As such I have no Battlestar toys or models... and Joy Ride Vipers are now so expensive... I will have to simply enjoy yours!
Over all my favorite (prefinished classic) Viper is the one from Eaglemoss. Even if I really love the launchtube packaging from Moebius and all the details of the cockpit, the very solid construction from Eaglemoss and the awesome painting is to me the most superoir of all. A second version with landing gears would have been great and a nice variation of the classic stand. By the way, the Eaglemoss Viper Mark III from Blood and Chrome is totally awesome too, even if it is from the new series...
The Silver Spar Viper paint job makes it the best Viper ever released, for me! As good as the Eaglemoss Viper is, the nose is just slightly too long. Wish Eaglemoss added a pilot too!
That does look cool. I don't have one of those. WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They sure aren't $14.99 anymore. Yikes, $100-200 now. It looks like Joyride has a whole bunch of BSG things.
JoyRide really had high hopes for BSG! The sad thing is they went out of business because their parent company got into financial trouble. They where doing fine!
I have all the toys from Joy Ride, the best is the 1/32 scale from Moebius. The only issue on the Joy Ride one, is the scale of the pilot, that is to small near the ship. On these days (Feb/2024) the price for this Viper is much much high than just $15.00
I like the other manufacturers Viper models more than this one. I see that the "engine intakes" for lack of a better word are not all the same size and shape. Also, I don't like how the bottom of the ship is blank. No red stripes!
The Eaglemoss viper has the red stripes on the underside of the wings. I think it looks better and more "complete" but I don't know if that is screen accurate.
You didn’t mention the variants Joyride made of the grey Viper, which looked like the color they molded the old Monogram model with, and the Silver Spar Viper which is Sheba’s ship from The Pegasus.
The canopy looks a little off and as mentioned, the pilot figure is too tiny. I think it would have been better to just have a head and torso to scale that stays put. Over all still a great version of the Viper.
Looks really good ,i think a little more detail painti g and weathering would make it perfect. The pilot does look a little out of scale with the ship though.
Nah. The Mobeous model kit is the best. Plus you can get photo etching and lighting kits. There are some UA-cam channels that show the build potential.

I think the wings where a “extra” play feature created by Mattel. I do agree with you that it is a cool concept!
Such an iconic ship. I still have a few from the 70s in good condition. 🍻
Couldn't agree more!
Just a fun fact they used a car starter for the back of the laser gun on the full size ship.
Wow! I did not know that! Thanks for sharing that info!
I own this model and I still have it on display to this day. It's a great model. Mines loose of course but it displays great.
I agree! Thanks!!

I have nightmares about the Trendmasters BSG line. What a missed opportunity!
Yep, it was!

Your right! Thanks for the info on the latter Vipers!
I had the Silver Spar variant. The plastic was a bit warped but I never tried twisting it back into shape. My biggest complaint was that the pilot was way too small.
I agree about the pilot. The ships are not super high quality but they do the job!
Despite the size discrepancy with the pilot, it was a nice looking piece. The detailing was very well done.

There is a little glimmer of hope that a company will soon produce some new BSG (affordable) merch! Keep the faith!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I keep my fingers crossed!!!!
The Moebius kit is the best hands down. But only if you do a good job building it.
Their prebuilt Viper is amazing but expensive even at original retail. Now it’s price is crazy!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 Hmmm... Just looked on Ebay and even the unbuilt kit is going for stupid money. Crazy world.

The Eaglemoss Viper is the hands down winner with most collectors. I just wish they would had including landing gear (for the price).

Eaglemoss missed a few things (especially for the price they charged).

Master Replicas is selling a "gold" Viper right now- over $400.00. I'm not sure if there's a demand for such a Viper 🤷
😳 There is a story about that Viper. Episode soon!
The price on the gold Viper is $269, not $400.

They are fragile but still a decent deal at $15!
