  • The Oregon Ducks didn't play anywhere close to their best level of football against visiting Maryland, but the No. 1 ranked Ducks still won by 21 points to improve to 10-0 on the season. Here are our takeaways from tonight's win.

    Harmon, among other Duck Defensive lineman were egregiously held all game. 2 seasons in a row where Ducks just really struggle to get those calls.

      Agreed. The officials chose to make Maryland's o-line competitive when they otherwise would have been overwhelmed without help from backs and tight ends. That was probably the second biggest source of frustration behind only the dropsy contagion that beset Oregon's skill players (particularly Ferguson).

    I think you guys needed to mention more about how preparing for a team for 2 weeks can do. Maryland was coming off a bye. I didn't see Wisconsin play this week. I could be wrong, but they will be coming off a bye. 2 weeks of prep matters.

      Yep. Badgers had bye. That plus a long road trip and multiple injuries is concerning.

    i think oregon is seeing what it really means to be the #1 team in the country right now. we have been really getting everyones best shot lately, michigan brought it and so did maryland. mediocre teams are getting up for these games in a way that they might not against like a 15th ranked team. that being said, oregon didnt look particularly sharp on a day where ohio state won 45-0...

      Fair, BUT we also have it in the back of our mind that we will be playing Ohio State in a month 2.5 hours away from their home stadium. I'm not panicking at all and agree this was just an off game where Oregon was working the kinks out of the 21 personnel plays.

    11:07 "I saw some people really, really down on this team suddenly, because they didn't play perfect (sic). And I think that's probably just like a basic reminder to fans that not every single play on every single drive is gonna go exactly the way you expect it to, and to just go into a game being aware of the possibility that they're not going to play perfect (sic)." -Erik Skopil
    Straw man much, Skopil? That's obviously NOT a criticism being levied by any thoughtful observer. Total mischaracterization. Any such adolescent hyperbole you might have heard or read is not worth bringing into a mature discussion regarding the 2024 Oregon football team. Use of the straw man is fallacious argumentation, and it indicates lack of willingness or ability to challenge the topic reasonably. Automatic thumbs-down fail.

    It was a game definitely not up to standard, but to the Ducks credit they found a way to win and win by 21 points. Also the defense had a extremely difficult time to get off the field, but I believe they still held Maryland to a season low for total yardage.

    • @KFBALL247
      @KFBALL247 2 місяці тому +1

      The total yardage is a little deceiving considering Oregon had like 5 pass interference calls downfield. I didn’t think the defense played great besides getting turnovers. Especially on 3rd down.

    • @dylancato5047
      @dylancato5047 2 місяці тому

      The defense played well at times but Maryland was getting some BS calls that Oregon wasn’t getting. Ferguson was being held most of the game and never got any of the calls. The refs need to be more fair and consistent. Most of the calls on Oregon were ticky tack calls for sure and the PI calls were on uncatchable passes.

      @Infiltrate.and.Betray 2 місяці тому

      @@KFBALL247 "The total yardage is a little deceiving ..." -KFBALL247
      No, it's not. Penalty yardage is kept separate from rushing and passing yardage. The total yardage reflects earned plays only.
      ... By the way, Maryland's total of only 289 yards was quite impressive for the Oregon defense, especially considering Maryland ran a whopping 76 plays; that's only 3.80 yards per play allowed, which is outstanding.

    • @Infiltrate.and.Betray
      @Infiltrate.and.Betray 2 місяці тому

      @@dylancato5047 "Most of the calls on Oregon were ticky tack calls for sure and the PI calls were on uncatchable passes."
      The second quarter PI call in the endzone against Tysheem Johnson was indeed on an uncatchable ball, but it still should have been defensive holding, which would have been the same penalty enforcement as a PI in that situation anyway (half the distance to the goal and an automatic first down). And the third quarter PI call against Jabbar Muhammad down the left sideline was definitely on an uncatchable ball; however, it looked from a distance like a legit defensive holding violation, and because it occurred on a first down play, the officiating error only cost Oregon the yardage differential of minus-5.
      ... And outside of those two defensive holding violations incorrectly called pass interference, the rest of the penalties against Oregon were deserved. Plus, Tysheem Johnson got away with that third down defensive holding on Maryland's opening possession, and Jaeden Moore got away with a blatant roughing the passer on the huge Tysheem Johnson interception to set up Oregon first and goal-which was nothing short of game-altering.
      Be objective. The officials were bad, but Oregon's execution was worse.

    Just a sloppy game, but still some great play as well. Not sure what happened to Jordan James and if Burch's ding-up was serious or not. Dillon also took some hits in this game, wasn't liking some of those. A ton of batted balls! Way too many penalties. Amazing fake punt drive, an EDGE and two offensive-linemen (and the TD was the NCAA record for Dillon) for the score.

    Here is what I thought of after the fact. This was Maryland. So I'm thinking Oregon is playing fast and lose. That seems to me as a recipe for all the freaking penalties and other mistakes. If this was an Ohio State, or a Michigan-teams that could hurt you, Oregon would have been much more focused and detail oriented. They were not detail oriented tonight. The shove of MD player on sideline was bone-headed and cost Ducks 15 yard un-sportsman call. Yes, it's a win, but in my mind, the #1 team is supposed to be much more in-sync than they were tonight. Had they played cleaner, score would have been 45-10.

      @Infiltrate.and.Betray 2 місяці тому

      "Go figure"? What do you mean? There's no mystery to the 21-point margin of victory at all: Oregon went +3 in turnover margin and scored 17 points off said turnovers-including an outright defensive touchdown, plus field position spots at the Maryland 4 and the Maryland 32-and they got a +6.7 EPA gift on that Tysheem Johnson interception when the officials mysteriously chose not to flag Jaeden Moore for his blatant roughing the passer. There's 23.7 points worth of margin right there. So, other than this, the game was a slight lean to Maryland.
