    The only thing that puts teams like Ohio State and Georgia one tier above Oregon is the consistent development. If they can prove that they can develop blue chip players that they recruit/sign, the sooner they can get over that hump.

    I always hate when people bring up Oregons “inability to develop players out of highschool” like Chris did. I’d expect someone in his position to be more forward thinking. Developing players out of high school is important, and Oregon is doing it, but you’re still going to bring in the best players if you want to win a championship. Period. I don’t care if Oregon develops the next DK Metcalf, if the next Randy Moss type wants to come to Oregon, you bring him in.

      It’s the biggest myth that Lanning and Oregon aren’t developing players. We literally just had the B1G 10 sack leader in 2024.

    • @SMrAdam1977
      @SMrAdam1977 День тому

      He didn’t say Oregon has an “inability to develop players out of high school.” They’ve definitely developed some. He said there’s a rhythm of development that Oregon still needs to hit. He’s not lying. Oregon had entire position groups made up of transfers. Many of their blue chip recruits were comprised of those same positions. So, there does seem to be a need to decvelop recruits, at those positions, a bit faster instead of relying heavily on transfers that don’t meet expectations (i.e. Evan Stewart). My disagreement was with his Mario Cristobal comment. Look, we all hated how Mario left. However during his 4-year tenure he appeared in 3 conference title games and won 2. I’d call that “getting over the hump.”

    • @derekarnold9
      @derekarnold9 День тому

      @ Good points. But I disagree with the Evan Stewart comment. Does he need to be more consistent? Yes. But we don’t win the game against Ohio State in Autzen without Stewart’s contributions. I’d also point out that Ohio State relies heavily on transfer portal players (Caleb Dows), and they were the best team in college football this year. It’s a balance. You need HS player development but you also need transfer portal talent if you want to be successful.

      Agreed. Also it’s always a dynamic situation that is entirely dependent on the athlete, the overall program and the availability of athletes amongst the entirety of college football.

      @@SMrAdam1977100% agree. However with Oregon’s NIL & the portal being available, it’s relatively easy for them to replace a starter by luring a talented player from a G5 program and call it good. That seems to be the trend with them right now.

    Good guy to have back any time you can get him. Would love the college teams to be required to release their NIL expenditures. Reporting has been all over the map. Saw on The Athletic that Ohio State spent north of 20 million and Oregon spent right at 10 million and there were 9 total teams that open more than Oregon did, including Ole Miss and several other sec teams. Michigan just spent millions on a high school quarterback. This isn't the college football I grew up watching back in the 60's (of course UW and the SEC were spending $$$$$$ back then).

    Thought you guys did a slight disservice to DG on this one. All season you gushed about his deep ball accuracy how he was making certain throws that most qbs can’t make. Then this guy gets on here and says there’s 5-10 qbs that are better and you agree. This program needs to continue to get better to be elite but I wouldn’t say qb play was a reason the season ended the way it did

    I think this is going to be a prove it year for coach Terry. The development really hasn’t shown up. Our interior o line was a mess to start the year and at the end of the season. Regarding screen pass frustrations: I don't think it's quite as simple as "they are just a part of modern offense." This is true, but the reason that the screen frustrations are more valid this year is because the data shows that they were by far Oregon's least effective play call all year long. Despite this, they continued to call screens more often than FBS average. I was fine with all of the screens last year because Oregon's perimeter blocking was significantly better last year. However, this year every time we threw a screen to Tez we were asking Evan Stewart to go block, which more often than not did not end well. I agree that against Ohio State there wasn't a whole lot Oregon could really do differently given the personnel issues and talent faced. However, looking back just to the B10 Championship, Oregon ran 10 screens and only two of them were successful. If Stein wants to continue to run lots of screens then fine, but we need to improve perimeter blocking or else it's going to continue to put Oregon in disadvantageous situations. Not to say that Stein should be fired or anything because I still really like him... just a few things to continue to work on

He couldn't tackle or even catch Boise States RB (a lot of other guys couldn't either) nor did he manage to cover or tackle anything against Penn State or Ohio State. We could sure use some elite play at the safety position this year.

    The 4 star LB McKay Madsen committed to BYU over Oregon. Could that be a sign that he thought the LB be room was deep and didn't see himself playing over guys like Dylan Williams, Kamar Mothudi, & Jerry Mixon? Is it encouraging that we didn't land him? Jurrion Dickey and Kyler Kasper are both bigger guys and you just completely ignore them. No, the WR room doesn't need any more depth at all. You basically shit on Jayden Limar and Jay Harris based on what? Limar has shown moments in his first two years. He took a screen to the house early in the season and showed great burst. He plays special teams. LB is where the team lost most depth. Soelle played special teams. Then losing Bassa and Jestin Jacobs while only bringing in Gavin Nix. You have to think about numbers, which you obviously fail to do if you are seriously thinking bringing in another WR. What are you guys smoking?

      No we get setting up defenses and tiring them out having to run sideline to sideline. The point is it’s way too predictable. There was no wrinkles in screen game to open it up deep so defense just committed to keep everything in front. We definitely need way more explosive plays. What’s the point of having all these speedy receivers that weigh 180lbs - to stop block😂

    • @red_bear1149
      @red_bear1149 5 днів тому

      @ soooo in fact you don’t understand what our offense is doing during those plays, got it. Those wr screens are predictable? Ok. Well, those wr screens are rpo’s and the look we get before snap dictates what the play is going to be, it was on DG to make the right read and take us deep if coverage called for it. Too predictable had our QB in NYC the last two years and remind me what our offense was ranked? Will Stein isn’t/wasn’t the problem. I’d like to see more designated deep pass plays but as far as what we were trying to do, DG wasn’t Bo Nix as far as reading the defense and putting us in the right call, not even close and that’s why we saw the frustrating plays. DG, love that guy but he for instance threw the wr screen in the rose bowl when the defense had numbers and we had mis match one on one coverage on the other side with no help anywhere close. That’s on the QB.

      @@jirikurto3859 i never said daylen austin was a bad player. this is two comments now where you put words in my mouth to try and make an argument. naeem offord is a 5 star recruit. if your argument is that daylen austin is good because he was a 4 star, then my argument that naeem offord has a higher ceiling because he is a 5 star, makes sense. daylen austin has been here for multiple years and hasn’t done much other than be a solid special teams player. if you had actually done your research and paid attention to players like offord, it’s clear and obvious that they have the talent and potential to be day 1 starters. i wouldn’t be surprised if austin wins the starting job, but to sharpie him in over theran johnson and naeem offord would be ignorant. i find it interesting how you say im “mesmerized” by the 5 star recruit, when you applied my same logic to a 4 star. doesn’t make much sense does it? yes, it’s possible for austin as a 4 star to be good; but it’s also possible for offord as a 5 star to be even better. that’s my whole point. if offord blossoms like i think he will this year, he will be a day 1 starter

      We got the top transfer RB…he will be the #1. I like Riggs more than Noah. Would rather have Noah as the RB 3 or 4

      @@jirikurto3859 he clearly does. no one ever said noah isn’t a good back. if you knew ball and paid attention, riggs clearly showed potential when he got in for late game situations. all we are saying is that riggs has the potential to beat out noah for rb2 this year. whether he hits that potential or not this year remains to be seen. but saying that riggs does not have the potential to be better than noah this year and beyond is blatantly ignorant

    Flowers should start next to Dillon

      Absolutely. Won’t surprised me if they start Mcnutt either. He’s a baller. Him and Offord should at least get on the field next year, even if they don’t start. We need safeties that can cover AND play the run. Flowers is a big hitter. I hope it’s him and Dillon. Cycle the other guys in.

    I like Ify Obidegwu to beat out Sione, 6-2 corner lengthy CB similar to Sione but better cover corner and IQ than Sione

    Jay Harris played 5 games? wtf… I thought he showed a lot of promise in the few reps he got. I liked Him and Riggs a lot. Wouldn’t mind them being the 2 and 3 behind Hughes. Limar just hasn’t been impressive tbh. And hopefully Noah moves on. We need to get young guys the reps and we need guys that can get explosive runs and break tackles.

    Every year you say theyre going to play more receivers this year. Stein likes short passes and screens and 4 receivers. For Moores sake i hope he changes but not holding my breath.
