  • Monty Python Live at Aspen was a reunion show featuring the five surviving members of Monty Python: John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Graham Chapman was also allegedly in attendance as his "ashes" were brought out in an urn. The Pythons looked back at their work and received an American Film Industry award.

It is physically impossible to watch these guys do ANYTHING and not end up feeling happy. Such a wonderful ability they had TOGETHER to entertain - no, not just entertain, but get in your head and make you see everything from a new, refreshed and SMILING viewpoint.

I couldn’t live without them . They’re always there somewhere at the back of my mind. They educated me, taught me English, informed me about the world, explained it. They deserve to be honored by the whole of humanity, I think.

My favourite Graham story is when he was at the oxford union debate (I think that’s what is called. It was at Oxford and it was a debate, so it will do for now) about nuclear disarmament. Everyone was there in their tuxedos and taking everything very seriously. Except for Graham who turned up dressed as a carrot, and when it came to his turn to talk, he just stood up with a goofy look on his face for his designated time without saying a word and sat back down.

Easily Michael Palin, the funniest one by far, got the better parts, granted, but he got them because he pulled them off so well. Cleese is runner up for me, he got most of the authoritarian parts but was brilliant at them, partly due to his physical stature.

The weirdest thing about Monty Python for me was that I was really high on cannabis and drunk as well and I suddenly thought that I was stuck in a reality show while my life was being shown on TV.

G'day Cineyfobia, Perhaps you or one of the commentators can tell me why this upload has been butchered with seemingly arbitrary cuts. How could you take any of this out? How could anyone suggest that what these brilliant comedy minds said was a bit dull stuff and needed taking out of the original performance at Aspen? Also, does anyone know of a full version of this event at Aspen? Given the quality of the material that did make the cut, it would be wonderful to see the whole kit and kaboodle! Cheers, BH

I think they got the movie mixed up at the end, the song is from Life of Brian, not Meaning of Life.
