Nice work! It's amazing the amount of trial and error and math needed to get gears installed properly. It's something I want to learn. I may see if I can pick up a cheap axle (D35 would be perfect for this) to practice on.
Wasnt too bad for my first time. It helped that I did my homework beforehand but a book can only teach ya so much. I second guessed myself more than once!
Dammit Dan.... 🤣😂 Glad you git it sorted out
Haha thanks for the assist!
Dan, you did an excellent job. I've seen guys have to tear it apart 15-20 times to get it right. Great job.
A trick I've seen to get the bearings on is heating them in oil. I was amazed when they slipped right on without even trying.
Can't wait to see it under the Jeep. Hopefully when I do mine, it goes at least as smooth as yours. Please note, it'll be my first time, too, and just like you, it'll be forever immortalized on UA-cam (and Rumble) for the whole world to see (and laugh at me while I screw it up).
Well there were a couple attempts not filmed but honestly not bad. It really helps to have the baseline/starting shim stacks since I reused the gearset. I’m pretty satisfied with how it went
Thanks for sharing your build and keeping it real for us po boys. I got a ration online when I asked if anyone had used gears.
All gears are used gears the minute you drive on them. I like how somehow it’s OK to continue using used gears that are already installed but if you change out a locker like I did all of a sudden it’s taboo to reuse them? Nah lol
Awesome job. I am also an OX locker fan. I wish they will finish the design on the 14 bolt.
Thanks! I’m stoked to continue along. Alot of visual progress is going to happen in a short time once I yank that 44 out of
Can't wait to see you take 'er offroad.
I can’t wait to get it offroad, or heck even take it for a drive. Been parked since like November lol
Having done this twice now on a 35 and a 30 I can honestly say I will be building an axle rack and yanking the axle out. Being on your back for all this is not fun! Looks like a great job. I used an old bearing with the cage and rollers removed to use in the press when pressing the bearings on instead of putting all that pressure on the new bearings/races. That also makes sure the bearing gets seated all the way instead of stopping at the carrier end.
I put the race on there and even with that, the plate I put on top was touching/pushing the inner part of the bearing so it was fine
By the way, I have a video on building my axle stand out of mostly scrap metal ua-cam.com/video/fA0fpzJfXZQ/v-deo.html
Looks like you did a good job to me.I guess we will find out when you get it on the road...
Worst case scenario even if it hums at speed I have lockouts and it’s a front axle so it’s only ever gonna turn when I’m Offroad lol. The only driving I do in this jeep is going to get ice cream or sometimes to work in the summer maybe 1500 miles a year max. otherwise it’s a trail rig
Great video Dan!!!
Thanks
I think I may have been number 17 this time around!
Nice setup
Thanks bro. We need to get out and wheel somewhere! You should bring your yj out to my work event June 8th lol
NIce! glad to see its coming to gather! I like those Ox Lockers. .. Don't get me wrong I like my ARBs but I thin Ox is probably my next selectable pick. But did they have LSD when unlocked? for some reason I thought they didn't go open when unlocked... ?
Mines open
no joke thats some work and putting it on video didnt make it faster or easier so thanks for that.
yeah the videos pretty much guarantee the job takes twice as long, and then another twice as long to edit haha. But I enjoy it, just cant keep up with it as much as id like. thanks for checkin it out!
Awesome job man. Im staring down a gear install in two axles when I do the 60's. Hopefully over the summer. We'll see how it goes! I like that you're using OX, everyone does arb, i was thinking eaton e-locker, but ive always liked the idea of an ox.
Ox is underrated for sure. Do your axles have the old gears and stuff? Having the baseline shim stacks was a big help
@@FlawedOffroad yep i've got a complete 05+ superduty front and a rear similar to your rear 60, except big enough spindles to accept 35 splines. also almost compete. just missing brakes.
i also just picked up a case spreader
@SWBCrawler go for the crush sleeve elimination if they have crush sleeves, the shims are less of a pain
@@FlawedOffroad i've heard that from lots of folks also considering those hub eliminators.
