It's a fun filled two weeks.

Winnipegger here. Pretty decent video and good info *in general*. Couple of things: 1. Canada has two official languages, English & French. That’s why all signs in Canada are bilingual (by law). It’s not a Winnipeg thing. 2. Pretty close on the winter thing, but it left the impression that winter lasts until May. Not so. We usually get our snow that stays for the winter (as opposed to falling & melting) around the middle of Nov. and the spring melt usually starts in March. We’re usually golfing by mid-April. But yes, sometimes we’ll get a freak snow as late as June, but anything after mid-April just melts within an hour. Winters can have a couple of “cold snaps” each year that can last as long as 2 weeks, but those are the extremes. Usually not nearly that cold. The good news is, when it’s cold, it’s also brilliantly sunny, and the streets are bone dry. When it gets warm, it’s more cloudy, and the streets get messy. I prefer the cold, sunny days (within reason!). Go Jets Go!!!
In the last 20 years it has warmed up and we get about 1 1/2 less months of winter. I know on Halloween , lots of times there was snow and it was cold and I have see it take until May for the snow to melt but not in the last 25 years. I worked outside on CN and froze at -25 many times on March 25. April was the month everything melted but now it is March. I have seen it snow in July once in the 1970's. It will continue to warm up. The more northern places will be warming up more. Florida will not notice any difference but northern Manitoba already has much warmer weather than in the past.
Crap town you'll get robbed. Native people here don't work because I know they don't get hired so crime is every where. Meth drugs alcohol don't live here. Bullshit not worth it to live here. If you're native in winnipeg you have to learn how to steal rob or sell drugs. Education work experience does not matter if your native. The ugly truth
My mom was born to american parents here in 1933 and lived here till she was 16 before moving to the States. She always spoke so fondly of Winnipeg. I’d love to visit some time tho maybe not in wintertime 😊
I would not want to live in any other Canadian city! Toronto? Never! Vancouver? Rain, rain, rain in the winter….very depressing. Would much rather have sun in January! Was very privileged to have lived in Winnipeg for almost 5 years and fell in love with it. There is surprisingly much to do and it's very culturally diverse.
Because it’s literally the only free things to do… until your bike gets stolen a week after purchase despite being locked up in a secure area for less than 5 minutes.
The city is as beautiful as it is heart-rending. The (new) mayor and council have their work cut out for them in cleaning up the obvious, long-standing problems of poverty and crime. Beyond that, it's a city with "great bones" and could literally go either way at this turnpike.
Thank you, as a "Pegger" I enjoyed your video. Just a comment about the mosquitoes - they aren't as bad as they used to be - really! We have had a really great environmentally friendly control system in place for several years. I barely notice them now. In August we have Folklorama, the largest and longest-running (54 years) multicultural festival of its kind in the world. 38 pavilions this year! The winters are cold but I guess I'm used to them. There is so much to do in winter to keep you warm, like the Festival du Voyageur, the largest Francophone event in Western Canada every February, Hé ho!!. Also, the normally 6km Nestaweya River Trail is loads of fun though we had such a mild winter this year that only one section opened at the end of January - this is where you'll see many of the spectacular warming huts.

I not saying Winnipeg is cold but when I went to the Forks last winter the warming huts on the river were closed because it was too cold. People in Winnipeg understand the cold.

Winnipeg is in the heart of lake country, surrounded by many lakes nearby and very nice beaches on those lakes, which can be very refreshing on one of those 30+ degree days in the summer.

ive had plans of moving here the past few years but ive always been stopped from family and just the world im hoping i can move out there this or later next year if my friend wanted to split the rent because rent is so difficult with times these days hopefully i can make things happen👌

Nice to hear good things about Pegcity since I live here and see the soft underbelly and hear just the negative things. I guess that happens everywhere. It's a tough but resourceful city. It's been said if you can survive here, you can survive anywhere. You obviously stayed around the touristy areas which are very nice. I still haven't gone to the human rights museum, someday. A lot of the city isn't in the tourist brochures, you have to venture out and ask around or just look around. Hope you make it back this way an see more.
If you stay on the main roads all you'll see are strip malls, but if you drive into neighbourhoods you'll see how Winnipeggers really live. Check out Lyndale Drive, or Riverview, or Tuxedo (yes, it's really called Tuxedo). Check out Wolseley, especially in summer when the place comes alive with front yard gardens. You'll love it!

I just returned from a few days in Winnipeg and will be back for a week in June. You are right on with the culture, diversity and should add how that adds to the beauty of the City. If you’re into architecture you will love this city. Right on with the comments about arts and culture.
Winnipeg used to take a lot of crap for not having major large Freeways. But ass urban philosophies are evolving it's turning into a bit of a blessing. I like to say that we avoided "terminal car cancer." becuase our city isn't carved up. I remember visting other great plains major river cities like Nashville thinking how much of a scar that interstate running through the middle really is.
Great Info-video! Wish you could have also focused on some of the beaches located at southern part of Lake Winnipeg. Those would be a huge draw for tourists and only 45 min. north east and north west of the city. Lake Winnipeg, Canada's sixth largest lake features Grand Beach on the eastern side with powdery white sand beaches and grass-topped dunes that make this one of the top beaches in North America with sand dunes and lagoons supporting many species of wild birds. Also on the western side of the lake we have Winnipeg Beach and the Gimli Municipality with Icelandic origins. Both sides easily accessible and close to the City for day trips.

No, that's not true. Winnipeg isn't even the coldest city in Manitoba! Yes, Winnipeg is famous for being cold in winter, but it's really not bad as long as you're dressed for the weather. A phrase you'll hear a lot is "It's a dry cold". Humidity in The 'Peg is so low, your body heat isn't conducted away. I felt much colder in places like Vancouver or Toronto in winter, becuase the higher humidity chills you to the bone.
I used to live there, it's a lovely city and the people are so friendly. Nice to go through memory lane. I would just say you need to learn how to say Tagalog correctly

True story. I bought a window unit air conditioner for our porch but I didn't get to use it until the THIRD SUMMER AFTER THAT, because the next two summers were cold and wet. There are good points to Winnipeg but I couldn't take the climate. The last straw was New year's eve, 2013/2014 when we made the news with the headline ... Winnipeg, colder than the surface of Mars. We moved to BC and now we get maybe 2 days a year where there's snow on the road, we traded minus 40 for plus 40 and never looked back. Winnipeg isn't for everyone.

There are no lakes in Winnipeg. There is a Lake Winnipeg. 7th largest fresh water lake in the world. Not in Winnipeg. The trans Canada highway runs through the heart of Winnipeg.
While you are correct that yes there are no lakes directly in Winnipeg, there is more than one lake in Manitoba. North of the city we have an entire section of the province called the Interlake region and we have dozens of lakes to fish and swim in, 15 minutes out of Winnipeg and all the way north.

Little sister coffee, fools and horses, parlour coffee, Oh Doughnuts, la belle baguette, hundreds of ethnic restaurants. I say we are the opposite of that.

Prairietown on the edge of Flatland:- one very good thing about Winnipeg is that there are no hills there which makes it easier to get around! 😊

Nice to hear good things about Pegcity since I live here and see the soft underbelly and hear just the negative things. I guess that happens everywhere. It's a tough but resourceful city. It's been said if you can survive here, you can survive anywhere. You obviously stayed around the touristy areas which are very nice. I still haven't gone to the human rights museum, someday. A lot of the city isn't in the tourist brochures, you have to venture out and ask around or just look around. Hope you make it back this way an see more.
If you stay on the main roads all you'll see are strip malls, but if you drive into neighbourhoods you'll see how Winnipeggers really live. Check out Lyndale Drive, or Riverview, or Tuxedo (yes, it's really called Tuxedo). Check out Wolseley, especially in summer when the place comes alive with front yard gardens. You'll love it!

I just returned from a few days in Winnipeg and will be back for a week in June. You are right on with the culture, diversity and should add how that adds to the beauty of the City. If you’re into architecture you will love this city. Right on with the comments about arts and culture.

Winnipeg used to take a lot of crap for not having major large Freeways. But ass urban philosophies are evolving it's turning into a bit of a blessing. I like to say that we avoided "terminal car cancer." becuase our city isn't carved up. I remember visting other great plains major river cities like Nashville thinking how much of a scar that interstate running through the middle really is.
Great Info-video! Wish you could have also focused on some of the beaches located at southern part of Lake Winnipeg. Those would be a huge draw for tourists and only 45 min. north east and north west of the city.
Lake Winnipeg, Canada's sixth largest lake features Grand Beach on the eastern side with powdery white sand beaches and grass-topped dunes that make this one of the top beaches in North America with sand dunes and lagoons supporting many species of wild birds. Also on the western side of the lake we have Winnipeg Beach and the Gimli Municipality with Icelandic origins. Both sides easily accessible and close to the City for day trips.
Great beaches, all right, with plenty of mosquitoes and black flies feasting on you there! Lol

Grand beach on lake Winnipeg made national geographic as one of the best beaches in the world due to its beautiful carribean style sand.

Well there are banks here and there and they have some antique cash in them hidden in safes but mostly everyone uses plastic. There's also the Red River which has a bank on each side and each of these banks runs for miles and miles! Just some droll Canadian humor, eh? 😉

Yes, Winnipeg is famous for being cold in winter, but it's really not bad as long as you're dressed for the weather. A phrase you'll hear a lot is "It's a dry cold". Humidity in The 'Peg is so low, your body heat isn't conducted away. I felt much colder in places like Vancouver or Toronto in winter, becuase the higher humidity chills you to the bone.

True story. I bought a window unit air conditioner for our porch but I didn't get to use it until the THIRD SUMMER AFTER THAT, because the next two summers were cold and wet. There are good points to Winnipeg but I couldn't take the climate. The last straw was New year's eve, 2013/2014 when we made the news with the headline ... Winnipeg, colder than the surface of Mars. We moved to BC and now we get maybe 2 days a year where there's snow on the road, we traded minus 40 for plus 40 and never looked back. Winnipeg isn't for everyone.
Definitely need to be tough to live here.

I'm American and I was never really aware it gets that hot in B.C. I know it often gets up to at least 26.5C in the summer in B.C. But 39C...how often is that in the Canadian prairies? I'm talking normal summer air temperature readings, not "climate change/global warming temperatures."

Sorta depends, we've had some summers that are almost unbearably hot at 35c+ for a week or so. We've also had summers that don't ever get past 25.

There are no lakes in Winnipeg. There is a Lake Winnipeg. 7th largest fresh water lake in the world. Not in Winnipeg.
The trans Canada highway runs through the heart of Winnipeg.
While you are correct that yes there are no lakes directly in Winnipeg, there is more than one lake in Manitoba. North of the city we have an entire section of the province called the Interlake region and we have dozens of lakes to fish and swim in, 15 minutes out of Winnipeg and all the way north.

Are you kidding? Compared to Alberta, BC and Ontario, we are missing many big chains. Try Enoteca, Passero, Deer and Almond, Nola, Clementine, all the local ethnic restaurants. Little sister coffee, fools and horses, parlour coffee, Oh Doughnuts, la belle baguette, hundreds of ethnic restaurants. I say we are the opposite of that.
