Came to Sydney in 1993 as a student. My two sons were born here. And now I have two grand daughters. Have lived in UK and US as well. But Australia is something else. Sydney is something else. Australian people and culture are second to none. Australian nature is second to none. Sydney still amazes me and surprises me after 3 decades. I realise how blessed I've been.

Hi, Aussie here. I'm new to your channel. Just a hint don't listen to young teenagers. Greenacre and Bankstown are just suburbs with houses. Bankstown Square is just a shopping mall. They were sending you on a wild goose chase 🤦‍♀️ Yes we have smarta'ses, too hahaha Ask an adult or shopkeeper for good advice or directions. Most Aussies are more than happy to help as you saw from that group that said walk around Bondi. That ship at Darling Harbour was actually The Bounty. It was a replica of Captain James Cook ( not Hook lol )who was British and an avant explorer. He circumnavigated the world. His fame in relation to us Aussies was that he claimed the East Coast of Australia for Britain in 1770. In 1788, the first ships arrived to colonise Australia, and it was named New South Wales and was to become a penal colony. The rest is history.
For cheap eats ask someone where Woolworths or Coles or Aldi is. They are the main big grocery shops. Many vloggers who visit end up making their own food on the cheap. Woolworths ( known as Woolies ) sell whole hot chickens and pork. $12. Grab freshly made salads. Fresh baked bread rolls and cakes, donuts etc. For $30 you have dinner or lunch for a few days. Yes they take it back to their motels. Some pre pack sandwiches they make themselves and throw it in their backpack. They sit by the Harbour or the beautiful Botanical Gardens on the water and go about their day. Never worry about ppl judging you, because Aussies don't. Unless you do something bad towards them, of course.. We are super friendly. However, some foreigners aren't use to us saying gidday whilst walking past or at a counter buying something. So they can treat you a bit rudely. Just ignore them 🙄
Garden Island use to be our Naval Dockyards. Over the past 20+ years, they have been totally re vamping the area. Hence the noise and equipment. There's new buildings, apartments and the shops are part of the new look. The buildings are beautifully architectured, and many in the area have the wow factor. Most are limited in height as we Aussies want to see the sky, get fresh air, and we love trees and seeing botanical plants and gardens. We don't want a cement city.
Sydney and most Australian large cities like to keep a warm, relaxing atmosphere vibe to work in. The majority of us don't want to look at oversized brick walls and cold, windy streets when working. Not when you can see from work, water, and look at trees and wildlife during your day and lunch break.
We have been called "behind the times" by other countries. However we don't care, we love our old simple lives 😂 We have beaches and harbours in our cities within reach. What would you rather 😉 High rises just to gander for an hour and pay through the nose to look....or work ! ...or work where you have a view, but you can still feel free and relaxed in the comfort of your surroundings 😁
Anyhow, I thought I'd fill you in on a bit of our life down under.
Shame you just missed our Festival of Lights .The whole of Sydney Harbour has a magnificent atmosphere of buildings with artworks in lights on them. The Sydney Opera House shows Aussie life from the bush to the sea and all its wildlife. Plus, the Indigenous people. The streets are lit up in displays. Also, the ships and ferries are adorned in fairy lights bouncing off the water. Of course, the Sydney Harbour Bridge does its thing 😅 Check out on UA-cam the Drone show during the festival which goes for a couple of weeks ( I think, lol ) Omg I was flabbergasted watching it on UA-cam. The world they did was unbelievable above the Opera House. Hundreds of drones illuminated the night sky. It left everyone speechless, simply breathtaking to watch. Never seen such precision in all my life. Wish I could have seen it live to be honest.
Lastly, it's a must to see live, our New Years Eve party, and fireworks. There are two lots. One at 9 pm for the children and midnight for the party goers. The atmosphere is electric, and the fireworks are even more spectacular. They are not confined to Sydney Harbour either. At the same time, Darling Harbour joins in, and the night skies are just a brilliant array of fireworks. The final ending with the Sydney Harbour Bridge with fully lit arch and a cascading waterfall. All to music 👌
Every city is different and every town has its quirky ways. No two are alike 😲.. I love my country... can't you tell 😂❤

Manly Beach is great, you can catch a ferry from Circular Quay. Harbour cruise with great views of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. To actually see the harbour is breathtaking, also the beautiful beaches are not flat as you walk on the amazing cliffs and see the ocean from beach to beach, can stop and have a coffee etc then keep walking beach after beach on the clifftops (natural beauty) but I was amazed about China Town because when I went there they had side streets (no cars) like laneways with wonderful Chinese Restaurants where you have anazing food inside or if you want to sit outside they bring your food to you ~ lovely tables, chairs and linen tablecloths and napkins, so maybe that's changed because that was approx 15 yrs ago. What I saw is just like China Toiwn in any City Yes, Bondi (next gorgeous beaches can't remember but all beautiful ~ Cronulla, Manly a must but in saying that Rose Bay, Elalizabeth Bay etcetc, so gorgeous, allsi driving one side you see the ocean the otherside the harbour funny I drove to ordinary areas and you look at the end of the street and can still see the ocean. How amazing to have the 2nd largest Harbour in a City. I live in Brisbane we have to drive 1 and 1/2 hrs to our beaches. Nice areas in Brissy but I must be honest Sydney is world class 💙

    G'day it's Steven from Sydney
Welcome to all our North American friends.
We tend to take our beautiful city for granted, however there's always a lot of construction everywhere.
As for Bankstown and Greenacre, well it's not a particularly desirable location nor is it a tourist destination.
There are many, many more destinations you should visit.
We have many beautiful beaches in the east and south, and if you're traveling further south of Sydney Wollongong is a beautiful coastal town, it's only around one hour away.
Also you were riding the smaller Light Rail trains around Sydney CBD, the larger double decker trains are mostly in the subway which is obviously underground.
So much to see and do in Sydney.
    Have fun and enjoy yourself!

The Sydney Harbour is spectacular. There has been serious money spent on infrastructure. The Working Port is Botany Bay where the container ships come in and out, which is south of Sydney Harbour. The Cruise ships and Ferries are in Sydney Harbour.
Also Sydney was an Olympic City in 2000 so public transport and other amenities were planned fot this event and for later use. Also casinos in Australia and New Zealand generally speaking are much more subtle in design than the USA Casinos.

@@jamesfrench7299what you don't say (or perhaps don't know but whoever influenced you to think as you do most likely did know) is that those Chinese students were already studying here when the Beijing Tiananmen Square massacre took place. Hawke offered those students refuge if they chose not to go back home.
So they had already obtained visas to study here through normal channels. Many had expressed support for the students in Beijing who were advocating for more democracy and were thus in danger of they returned. It is still forbidden in China to refer to the events in Tiananmen Square.
