locksport: Beginner friendly Abloy Classic training lock and pick design

  • Few days ago I participated in a lockpicking session. There I noticed that it is quite big step for a less experienced locksporter to even try Abloy Classic picking: its easy to break that really tiny picking tip and professional picks can be quite expensive. So I decided to make a beginner friendly picking tip and a customized lock to be used as a first step for Abloy locksporting.
This beginner friendly training pick is more robust and easy to make, so less risk if will give it for a try for a person that has no previous experience with Abloy locks picking.
From the lock core I replaced every second disc with a disc that is cut to act as a spacer. This type of training lock must not have any full cut discs (if picking tip is turning a disc to full cut angle, zero cut positioned discs will move too, failing in 5-0 issue).
There are 4 pcs of random cutted discs & first zero cut free wheeling disc to practise with. None of discs can be a full cut. This set of discs can be placed to any padlock type of Abloy Classic lock core: to a cutaway or to a normal type of lock. This training lock can be operated with a normal key.
Sorry for really bad voice quality in this video. It seems I have some issue with my video recording system.

Really helpful information, I had wondered if the picking tip needed to be that thin. Thanks for this video, cheers

Big thanks! The picking tip needed to be really thin to counter that 5cut-0cut challenge. but if leave 5cut out, then its not needed to be so thin. I think for some beginner training locks this can be accepted (if other alternative is no picking at all)

Great idea! Maybe you could offer this design to Sparrows and they could manufacture it similar to the pick that LPL and BosnianBill made?
I think you could simplify the design even further by just having tamped or laser cut thick spacers without any original spacers.

Thanks! I am not sure if there would be market need for this kind of beginner friendly training set.
That kind simplify of design would require some more advanced manufacturing tools, but for sure would be doable.

@@idanhurja I was thinking more along the lines of Sparrows or some other pick manufacturers creating correctly sized thick spacers you could just slap inside a regular Abloy Classic body with 4 original Abloy code disks and call it a day.
It seems to me that the same technology needed for top of the keyway tensioners should be able to output the thick spacers, too.

I need to look at your catalog of old videos to see if you have made some videos on making your DD pick. I have an idea for an approach using 304 stainless steel tubing and a few other items. I think it would be more pleasing to make one from materials that works, rather than spend $400 or more for a single pick.
I looked and I will be definitely going through your videos and learning..... 🙏🦾👍🤘

304 steel is a bit too soft for classic picking tip. picking tip may bend too easily. in gently using it may function okish, if code discs move easily.

      @j.gabriel8573 Рік тому +1

@@idanhurja what steel do you recommend for making the picks? As for me, I have been relying on 304 stainless steel tubing for use to make many different varieties and variations of rattlesnake pins, rattlesnake PIP, and other hybrid pins that are of rattlesnake nature, to hold up to the torsion applied to them while being picked in both 2.5mm and 3mm pin sizes, but use only use stainless steel for the 2.5mm pins but I use a.mix of stainless and brass for the 3mm.
I will definitely have to go through the videos later on and also look for other videos on building my own DD pick.

@@idanhurja It sounds like the audio track had very aggressive auto level applied which results in volume going all over the place. If you apply similarly aggressive compression and normalize the audio track, it can probably still be restored.
