Ford Connect Carpet Lining Metalwork Guide

  • This video is a short metalwork carpet lining guide for a Ford Connect van I am converting into a DVLA registered micro campervan. I have already uploaded a video showing how I carpet all the ply panels but all the metalwork also needs carpeting to give a nice neat professional looking finish to the interior. I use stretch carpet and high temperature adhesive (see links below) and complete the job in an afternoon. I use strips of carpet to maximise the amount of carpet that is used from a 5x2m roll and all joins are carefully matched up so they are very hard to spot. Once the ply panels are also fitted back in, it transforms the van interior.

    Very nice job, and as I’m planning a similar project for this winter I’m finding it extremely helpful. Will you be detailing the purchase and installation of the roof light and the door windows? Also, what lights did you mount in the ceiling? Thanks.

      Skylight and window videos are coming over the next few days, the downlights are just 12v LED recessed lights bought off ebay.

      Cheers yeah got the frame built, cushions cut to size, going to be similar layout to the Hijet but with a bed extension for extra length

    Hi from the states! You do some great conversions!
    I been following this one on youtube, and pretty much doing the same layout, except I'm adding a bunk across the back too, that way my wife can sleep on it. It's around 62" across there and she's about 62" tall too. Then during the day remove the bunk.
    On those two bulges on the tc body right behind the side sliders, how were you able to remove the lower ones on each side? ...I thought they were welding on pretty good. If you don't mind, how did remove them? ...I'd like to do the same ...I forecast, one of those driving right into my hip when I sleep lol

    It's good to rewatch this as I'm carpeting the metalwork in my connect just now. How do you neaten up the joins? Do you overlap one carpet strip over the other? Or do you try to cut them so they meet tight and flat? Thanks

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  5 років тому +2

      I just cut so they meet and butt up to each other, then once in place go over the join with a hair comb and it'll help hide it away

    Hi mate. Just wondering what the best way was to apply the ply to the roof?
    Thanks

    I take it you've had no problems with moisture just carpeting on to the bare metal? X

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  5 років тому

      not at all, the carpet helps protect against moisture forming as there is no exposed bare metal to form on

      @@TheCampervanBuilder cool. You see so many of these conversions done where they use a vapour barrier but this seems a good alternative 👍🏿 x

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  5 років тому

      the insulation I use creates its own vapour barrier if its all joined up with foil tape. People usually put barriers over wool or loft type insulation but the foil boards are their own barrier in sealed together
