Thanks for asking. I have not tried all the interfaces out there but considering the price I would go with SSL interfaces. I believe it is the best value for money! I hope it helps!
I was questioning my decision to go with the SSL six and the SSL 12, so thank you for setting my mind at ease, now in looking forward to getting to play
I am soo excited to read comments like yours since this was my main goal when setting up this channel - to help other people to make their decisions. I am glad it helped you and I hope you would enjoy it!!! Thank you for your comment!
Good video.. I just got the Six and it sounds amazing. Idk if I would go for the interface built into the six because if they had to compromise on the big six imagine the six.. if they could just add the EQs to the rest of the channels would be amazing.. def trying to keep that analog sound as much as possible! Great video
Hello! You are doing a great job on your channel. Very informative! I am currently looking into adding an additional outboard gear which I can use for tracking vocals and also summing. I currently have apogee duet 3 with lewitt pure tube and dlx sphere going to logic pro. I am making music on akai mpc live 2. I think that apogee duet is fairly limited with the connectivity so I am considering the ssl 12 or audient 44mkii to go with ssl six. Which audio interface is easier to route and interact with ssl six? Thank you!!
I emailed with SSL about the SSL2 , SSL2+, and SSL12. My question was if the Hi-Z instrument input bypassed the preamp. For my bass I have a tube preamp and compressor to use. SSL stated that the SSL12 combo XLR_1/4 instrument jack bypasses the mic preamp. The instrument Hi-Z channel does not. This is only the case on the SSL12, not the SSL2 or SSL2+.
Thanks a lot. What is your experience with SSL drivers? I am so tired of mediocre interface drivers that I was considering to go with RME but SSL 12 really has the right features for me.
Sorry for my late reply - I use MAC Apple - no driver were required as these are 'Class Compliant' - no drivers required. It worked as expected with no problems. The SSL 12 required drivers but again - everything worked smooth without any problems. I hope it helps. Thanks for watching!!!
What I hate about both mixers is that not all fader channels have hardware insert points. The insert points can also be used as direct outs if you want to record with another interface (then the built in in the Big Six) but you can only do that with the first four channels with the Big Six. It would have been nice to have that on all fader channels. What I would do if I would be SSL, I would take the Eq´s out of the Big Six and put instead three additional mono Aux Sends and add to all channels faders the insert points. What I need in an analog console are Aux sends to be able to use hardware effects and use the mixer as an analog routing matrix. With the insert points you would be able to add all kinds of Eq´s.
Thank you for your comment - that is really interesting. I am not sure if this could help but it almost felt like you were describing the X-Desk from SSL - it seems to have everything you want. That was why I did not like the X-Desk and prefer SIX and Big SIX over it. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you for watching.
@@amateurmusicstudio The X-Desk had also not enough Aux Sends. A good and flexible analog desk needs at least 6 better 8 Aux Sends to be really flexible. Same goes for XL-Desk.
Awesome video mate! One question, can you use hardware inserts when mixing in the box by using the SiX to route the stems from the DAW to external gear? If so, how would you go about it? I'm so confused about the routing on the SiX hehe!
Thank you for your question but I am also confused... Do you mean the Big Six or the Six (the smaller one)? The smaller one does not have built-in interface so it is not possible to route anything when working in the box without using some kind of audio interface. If you mean the BIG SIX - it comes with insert points on the first four mono channels. Let me know...
@@sq7507 Ok. The insert points are only available on the first two mono channels with pre amps. There is one master insert in the mastering section that would insert before the on-board Bus Compressor. Any questions - please let me know 🙂
@@amateurmusicstudio ok awesome, so i would need to go out my SSL 2 into channels 1 and 2 of the Six and use the inserts (connecting them via DB25s, right?) as i like. Then the main out of the Six into the SSL 2 to record the processing?
@@sq7507 yes, that sounds correct. You will be utilising the pres, EQ on the channel with insert points, master insert and the Buss Comp. Also, on the way back in to your DAW you can engage 4K on the SSL2 - that is what I used to do 🙂
Thank you for your question. I would definitely go with SSL as it is also better quality, cheaper and compatible with analogue gear. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Is there a difference in sound quality between the ssl 2 and ssl 12 (Preamps or Converters)? I read somewhere the converters are not the same. Is it noticable?
Thank for the question. There are no converters on SSL Six. I am not about pre amps but there is a difference in sound with SSL Six sounding more “analogue” if that makes any sense. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@amateurmusicstudio Thank you for the fast response. I think it was a misunderstanding. I mean the difference between the SSL 2 and SSL 12, not the SSL Six. Because I'm about to buy one of these two.
@@skyflyingbird7934 ahh, got it. I have not noticed any differences between the two in pre amps and conversion. I have sold the SSL 12 and left SSL 2 for myself. I hope that helps!!!
Thank you for your questions. First of all, the SSL Six does not have any built-in interface so something else should be used to get the sound into the computer (I used SSL 2 and SSL12). I prefer the sound of SSL Six especially for vocal. It is really hard to say since the difference is minimal but that is the point - all modern equipment is 95% there with the quality of the sound and it takes £££ to get the last 5% - I guess it is the same here with SSL Six and Big Six... I hope this helps - thank you for watching!
The conversion on the UAD is trash. When I switched to my cranborne audio R8 it felt like the Apollo was a toy. It’s shit for the money to be honest. And the plugins are overrated. I basically only use the pultec.

I too have everything except for the SSL 12 and I agree with everything you said, it’s something about the SSL Six sound quality.

ssl needs to make the real deal mixer-console in a small form for around $5,000-$6,000.
