  • DOES IT WORK? Fluval UVC In-Line Aquarium Clarifier | GREEN WATER TEST
    In this video we test the Fluval inline UVC. I have attached the fluval uvc to a small indoor pond which has a green water algae problem. I use the OEM 16mm pipework and a small internal filter powerhead to push water through the UVC unit. As you can see from the video the Fluval UVC is pretty good at clearing green water!

    Hello Friends! In this video I take a look at the Fluval UVC unit. From the video you can see that it clears the green water pretty well! Obviously UV's are meant to work in conjunction with a good filter so that last bit of murkyness would have been cleared up by adding a bigger filter and fine filter media. I didn't add a new filter to the test tub because I wanted to only add one new factor to the experiment i.e the UVC. If I added a new filter as well I wouldn't have been able to tell if it was the filter of the UVC which cleared the water!

      Can you add one of these to the 306 that's attached to a fluval shaker? I just got one (based on your reviews!) It's for my rescue fancy goldfish and I'm wondering if it would fit under there?

      Hello, thanks for the video. I have a couple of questions, please, I appreciate your help. 1) What happens if instead of placing the UVC filter in a horizontal position (like a T), I place it rather vertically (rotating 45 degrees).
      2) Could the UVC bulb be kept on for 24 continuous hours and everything would happen fine? *30000 hours / 24 hours per day = 1250 days (3.4 years of supposed performance)

    Nice video and well explained. I also got a Fluval UVC for my 350 liters tank Yesterday. The tank has only 0ne 9.9 Kamfa. I have also installed it as you did. I was concerned if I had up it upside down as some pics showed as you installed and some showed the other way round. I was looking for a good video that could explain and also had results. Thanks for posting this.

    I had a koi pond that was green. Added a uv and it killed all the green pea soup. Left a solid layer of dead algae dust on the bottom. Didnt have a bottom drain so every water change i did on my pond, id keep moving the pump all around the bottom so it basically vacuumed it all up. So yeah, UV works great for algae. Looking for a good uv for my fish tank, no algae but i want added protection with killing bacteria/parasites.

    Happy with my UV, though I don't recommend 24hr use. I think if you had put it on 24hr, it would have cleared in a few days and then you can dial it back to maybe 8 hrs. If 12hr constant use is working for you though, I say, Cheers.

    • @EverydayAquarist
      @EverydayAquarist  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching. I agree 24hrs probably would have been more effective. I chose 12hrs purely as it's middle of the road for the unit, and would allow the UVC to last longer than 3 years due to the non replacement bulb. However I personally would run it 24hrs if it were not a test situation, and I will do when I add it to one of my main tanks.

      Likewise I have UVs on all my tanks. Obviously you have less maintenance for water purification and clarity, hence a healthier aquatic life and ultimate aquarium viewing beauty.
      I am baffled too but bear in mind not everyone understands the Physics of electromagnetisms and photonics and the power of electromagnetic force from the spectrum of ultraviolet light if used in the right way.

    PSA: If you are dosing Iron (Fe) in your aquarium, think again about installing this UV because in most of the Iron fertilizers that exist out there, it destroys the elements that help it dissolve slowly and be easy to enter the plants’ cells. Twinstar or Chihiros doctor do the same anyway but in smaller scale and more slowly.

    • @matt79hz
      @matt79hz 3 роки тому +2

    Can you regulate the flow of the fx4? Because I don't think the fx2 can be slowed down, but I do believe that you can reduce flow rate on the fx4. I'm trying to pick a filter for a 75 gallon, and I'm thinking the fx4 is the most sensible choice all around.

    • @andrewpirus2159
      @andrewpirus2159 10 місяців тому +1

      Yes you can adjust flow on the fx4. They reccomend you don’t go lower than 50% though. I can’t see you would need to slow the flow much on a 75gal though. I got the spray bar for my fx4 and drilled the holes out slightly to make it less powerful but still pump the max volume of water. You can also get the fc uvc that is made to handle the higher flow in the uv

    • @EverydayAquarist
      @EverydayAquarist  3 роки тому

      Yes they do in the instructions as that is the best way to avoid bubbles being trapped at low flow.

    • @joharisalim8484

      It’s a bit of a blunder by Fluval. I don’t even have any extra sheet in the box telling that it should be positioned in a happy T face but an upside down T as in the original manual. Mine must be the earlier batches. I was bound to know the correct position of installing the unit only after watching your video. Repositioning the unit is a breeze.
      It’s true though the flow rate is faster with the T position as the water hit the unit going down the curve and up again instead of hitting the unit going up and down the curve. BTW thanks a bundle for all your very informative videos and your British accent is superb!
