  • A lot of people have been waiting for the hotly anticipated ‪@fluval‬ FX UVC and I'll be honest it lives up to the hype. This unit should help you maintain your fish tank by killing off algae and all those other nasty things none of us want in our aquariums.
    I will revisit this unit in a month or so to see how it has performed and to see if it's made a difference to my cleaning regime.
    The Fluval FX UVC will be available from October 2023, ready to fit to your external filter and make your aquascape that much easier to keep algae free. Find the installation guide in this link: fluvalaquatics...
    Also don't come at me for forgetting that UVC stood for ultra violet clarifier!

    My $40 UV unit has made my water crystal clear and works great compared to what it was like before I installed it. Not that the water wasn't already clear and satisfactory. I just wanted to see if a cheap unit would actually work or not. I wasn't disappointed because my water is absolutely crystal clear now.

    Pro tip: unless you have an active problem keep your uv on a timer. Saves bulb life and still works to keep the bacterial haze away.

    Although I probably won't use a UV sterilizer, I do love Fluval products. I always have some Bug Bites for my fish, and I've got a couple Fluval hang on the back filters that I think are great. Also, I would absolutely love to see your pond! I've done my first pond this year, and it is just as fun as my aquariums.

    First time viewer & I subscribed as I found your video easy to watch and informative. I've been running the original Fluval UVC clarifier on a 307 and now a 107. It's been amazing and as you indicated, has made maintenance ssooo much easier. It's almost 2 yrs old now and have been wondering what I would do to replace it. You have me convinced. Thanks for a great, informative video. Tom from Minnesota/USA.

  • @neilrr1000
    @neilrr1000 8 місяців тому

    From research, a clarifier is low wattage as it can't achieve the levels of sterilisation that high wattage units need. Equally in turn that will by why the bulb can run for so long (its not working as hard so use's less heat and won't burn out quickly)

    i buyed somekind of cube that looks like inside of a catalysator and that one cleans the water to crystal clear and i dont use UV/UVC at all, i also have been trying to get my tank natural as in real life, like how the fish live freely and my fish doing great so far. you dont need expensive equipment but some people want to do it different and that is all fine :)

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  11 місяців тому

      I know the cubes you talk of and have used them before with fairly decent success.
      Your last part is so true you can keep fish in whatever way you see fit as long as the fish are happy!

    I've come to my own conclusion, it's rather novel; water and power don't mix. The reason hang-on-backs are excluded, the magnetized propeller is behind plastic. My UV/filter nearly killed my koi. I have yet to investigate, but my guess is the UV bulb. My koi recovered, luckily, but it took about a month this summer for them to get back to normal. Only reason I figured it out is it shocked me putting it back in the water after cleaning. One koi would just hang next to the filter, waiting to die, I had no idea why, but he's good now. If you do run power/UV, run it well out of the water, just like this Fluval FX UVC.

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  11 місяців тому +3

      oOoOO that doesn't sound good! You may find the quartz sleeve that keeps the water away from the bulb has been leaking or is broken. This would let water into the electrical bit of the UV which would possibly explain what you have been suffering! Hope it's all sorted now!

      I have the 07 clarifier. From what I understand since the bacteria is not in the water column, it won’t cause issues. I turn mine off for 24 hours after I add any stability after water changes. So far so good.

    Matt - Thanks for the review of this product. I saw someone else on UA-cam who lost fish after installing this on their aquarium. I noticed the old model fluval had a timer feature which seems to indicate you should only operate it for a certain amount of time each day. The unit you installed doesn’t have this feature. Now that it has been a few months since installing it, what have you noticed and are you satisfied with the water quality and overall fish health? Ready to pull the trigger but the one negative review video I watched has me concerned and I don’t want to injure my fish. Thanks in advance!

    Heaters are apperently some of the hardest things to make for a affordable price, cause if u use anything but the best components its just makeing all the heat abuse the less durable components. And apperently if they wanted to make a indestructible heater it would be very expensive but nobodys but price on it yet, if its a 150-200 dollar heater that doesnt break i think everybody overtime would buy it. But maybe they do want u coming back for more and more heaters so idk

    Hi Matt, new subscriber, found you from MD. Great product review. Question - do you think it’s worth running a UV on a Cleair setup for fresh water trops?

    Did you buy this, or was it a Fluval placement review?

    Won't the beneficial bacteria in the filter media effected with this UVC?

    Noted, UV sterilizers can help if I have to battle major yuk! If I may ask, as I'm getting back into the hobby I'm thinking if I use an internal filter it's like insurance because I can't cause a flood. Is this a poor choice because online everyone seems to be using canisters? Hope you get a sunny day soon!

      What's your tank size?

      Of course you can ask, nope internals can be good just pick the correct one. Personally fluval and oase tend to be my favourite internals but it does depend on the size of aquarium.

    I am getting ready to set up a 3rd tank, and was thinking of getting my filter for it early and adding it to one of my established tanks to help speed up the cycling. Do you think this will work?

    Interesting how they can make an inline UVC clarifier but they can't make an inline heater...
