    Delfast was kind enough to loan me an example of their latest E-bike, the Top 3.0. The Ukrainian electric bike manufacturer first launched in 2014 as a startup very interestingly concerned with the delivery of small goods akin modern systems like instacart or favor here in the US. hey sat down and engineered their own bikes for their couriers, eventually giving in to demand and selling them to the public.

    These things are straight up motorcycles that the regulations haven't caught up to. This is one of those times that being an early adopter gives you an insane advantage as you get to skirt all the rules for a couple years.

    • @hannorichter7576
      @hannorichter7576 2 роки тому +6

      I agree. The way the author of this video is racing the bike down narrow public bike paths, putting people in danger or making them jump out of the way, will surely contribute to the police paying more attention as these bikes become more popular. They will soon start sacking them. I would like to urge you - when you are on bike paths, drive bicycle speeds (15 mph). If you do something illegal (riding a stealth motorbike without a license), at least do it smartly.

      It'll never be as heavy or as overkill as those. At least in the west coast they will always been seen as 50cc mopeds. Cops have better things to do than go after people on these.

      If you drove sensibly it would be under the radar but when you drive like this guy people are going to start calling the cops and complaining and then there will be laws and mandates and regulations that quickly follow.
      All because the few a holes that can't be courteous and sensible.

    I've been riding a 1kw ebike I built to commute to work daily in lewisville Texas, and it absolutely slays. I'm wearing full moto gear since I'm often playing chicken with cars going 10-15 mph faster than me. The ability to take bike paths, hop curbs and generally get cute with local traffic laws is killer. Especially when you get to some tight city streets.

    • @any4003
      @any4003 3 роки тому +1

      What are the ebike laws in TX I live here now and I can't find anything really official. I don't know how they'd treated the delfast given it's specs. I can't get a license or anything so this is something I'm considering.

      @@any4003 I think the limit is like idk 20somthing mph, but suprisingly the cops dont seem to ask questions. And I am NOT chill with how I ride. I split lanes, run redlights, hope curbs, and all that. havent had any run ins. if you keep things sensible when you see a cop, you oughta be alright.

      4 months later, and well, im less happy with the ebike, on 45mph roads im having to dodge cars that cant be bothered to change lanes far enough multiple times a day. almost been taken out more times than I can count. and one dude got so angry with me he chased me down for over a mile trying to get me to pull over so he could beat me up. at this point I want a fast bike with a loud ass pipe so I can just deafen every person on my fucking commute because they are all murderous bastards.

    I bought this bike a year ago it took 6 months to recieve. When I received it the GPS and speedometer didn't work. For two months they tried to convince me it was my fault not doing something right. It turned out that it wasn't me They then wanted me to install a stabilization kit and I finally pleaded with them to take it back and fix it. They agreed to fix the GPS, the speedometer, and install the stabilization kit. They have had the bike for over four months and did nothing but let it rust. They informed me they are waiting on parts for the GPS system, and when I asked about everything else they would say the bike was fixed on multiple occasions. Now in response to my complaint the bike wasnt fixed at all, they say to me that I never told them about the speedometer or the stabilization kit, there are dozens of emails we had in regards to exactly that. Like I said, it's been a year since purchase, I essentially just got my bike and it's worse than when they said they fixed it. I don't know if this is some kind of a joke to them, its nothing but stress for me. In theory I would love the bike and the company, but in reality they have been terrible to deal with and here a year later I have a the same problem, now rusted over(minor issue really). I will add that they said I could take it to a shop to have it fixed and they would cover the cost, one of the reasons they had it shipped to them, I can't find anyone. I was patient at one point, but now I'm also a nightmare to deal with so I'll give them credit for that. That bike is smooth, fast. I don't think there is another bike out there like this, it's pretty nuts. I can't say I don't want the bike, but I really don't know how to feel or what to think.

    I use an EV scooter for my daily commute and around the town. My town is approx 2.000 years old and we are bordering a lake... Sadly the E-Bike stuff is regulated and motors that strong and fast are not allowed in switzerland.
    My scooter, to me, is even more practical than an E-Bike. Where you can store an umbrella, you can store the scooter. Taking it with you in the Metro? No problem, you don't even have to pay an additional fair. Insurance? Taxes? Not needed. I even lowered the mileage of my car (insurance). Funny thing, every commute within 10 mls I am faster with Public Transport and Scooter, than by car. Parking fees? Imagine, tiny, overcrowded Switzerland and than the wealthiest region in Switzerland... Car hating Switzerland... You'll get the point.
    I don't believe in an all EV future, it will be a combination of resources. I don't know whats coming, but surely we'll have to say goodbye to the all alone commute, in 6.000 lbs truck, burning away dino juice like crazy.

The new bikes are cool but I can't see spending that kind of money for them. Yes, this Delfast is a very, very nice E-Bike but the price will drive many away. Yamaha has a nice one as well for less. Still too expensive. As always Great Video!

      I put a 1.5kw kit on mine and a 55v 13ah lion battery, i absolutely love it, already had a nice 20" hydraulic 27spd mtb so the kit and battery only cost me like $500, best fun and smiles per mile you can have, i like to cruise slowly wherever I'm going then save most of the battery for blasting home, goes anywhere from 10-20 miles depending on many variables, and I'm like 6'2" 240 😂

      It's sort of designed to be nearly your only mode of getting around. So in that perspective, without a motorcycle or a car, it's not a lot of money for transportation. If anyone is weird enough to want to live in a congested radical left place like NYC, the time you would save and the money you can save with one of these would be substantial. Eliminate subway and bus fares, eliminate parking fares, eliminate the time wasted sitting in a box in traffic, eliminate the need for taxes and registration... although in NYC I'm sure freedom-hating Cuomo will figure out how to tax the crap out of these things.

      I feel like this misses the point a bit. Can you get a beefier machine for the price? Sure. But if this were aimed at couriers then they wouldnt benefit from that extra power when weaving through city streets anyway. Also, look where he's riding. He gets to be in bike lanes and take paths you couldnt access on a full size regular bike. That would mean a lot for a courier who's trying to complete their delivery asap so they can move on to the next job. Circumventing traffic like that would be clutch. Especially since i believe you cant ride in between lanes on a motorcycles in some cities right?

    Sadly, nearly all ebikes and parts are manufactured in China. And with all the supply chain issues goin on today. One is left to locate a used bike already in the States. Or find a reputable dealer that already has what you're looking for. I sure as hell ain't buying anything off Ebay at this point, even though I have before. Because you may never receive it due to the shipping backlog at US Ports. I'm going back to gas-powered for now.

    I like the Delfast bike, but their marketing annoys the hell out of me. Their Guinness World Record marketing, for example, is complete bullshit. There's nothing innovative on the Top 3.0 that delivered that range. They crammed a huge battery in a Chinese parts-bin bike (that's an Enduro E-Bike frame you can buy from 100+ Alibaba vendors), then rode it at 13.5 MPH for 236 miles. That's like putting a 180 gallon fuel tank in a 1.6L diesel VW Golf, then driving it for 10,000 miles to set a range record. All the parts on the Delfast are off-the-shelf. You could replicate the bike by ordering everything through Alibaba. That doesn't make it a bad bike. Quite the opposite. They build a nice, complete package, and at a great price if you ask me. Sourcing is a ton of work. But they talk a lot about "engineering" on their website. What they've done is not engineering, it's product integration. Again, not a bad thing, just not the most honest representation of what they've done. The Kalk is a bike with a lot of engineering... And the price tag to match.

    228 miles at 15 mph - at proper speeds it does 30-40 miles. My Bafang mountain bike will do that and cost me £1500

    If I had a loft and job in downtown Los Angeles maybe, but for that price I’d just get a 390 duke. (Hmmmmm But we do have a lot of bike lanes and bike trails here in California….more research is required, this could be interesting.)

    Why are there pedals? No one is going to pedal 100 pounds.

    Why not just buy a moped at 1/3 of the cost ? With less legal hassles probably more cargo capacity and maintenance longevity.
    To think you could get away with being cute with the legal restrictions. I don't think so. Most cities and states have had restrictions and classifications on the books for a while now. I'm sure you couldn't make it across town Breaking All the Rules without getting 5 or 10 phone calls to the cops from those that are following the rules.
    Which leaves the only use being rural areas. If your rule you might as well have a moped where you have better range and better speed and better reliability at a much cheaper price.
