You have got to switch planes again, the La-5 is just a pilot-to-nurse conveyance device.

I would say fly the Yak instead, it's a much better turnfighter, Where the lavachkin planes are a boom and zoomer and shouldn't fight in the turns

I have a little advice. I noticed that you are flying with your engine outlet cooling doors open, which causes a lot of drag/ loss of speed. I recommend that you close them. Keep the inlet shutters full open and the radiator full open. Go to max RPM in combat, if you are not doing that already. You can switch on boost too, but that will heat up the engine faster too, especially in a low-speed turn fight when the engine loses some of its air cooling. I recommend getting closer to the enemy aircraft before firing to conserve ammo. The La-5 is good at low level in terms of speed, and it has a better roll rate than the 109. The 109 does better than the La-5 in a climb, so chasing in a climb is probably a losing battle unless you start with a lot of energy. If you can put some rounds over the cockpit, the AI might be dissuaded from climbing and you should be able to overhaul them and catch them at lower level in a flat chase with boost. Also, the La-5 has a 2-stage supercharger, so you have to switch that for low/high altitude, if you aren't doing that already. Good hunting.
Came here to say this same thing about the outlet cowl flaps. I've tested them and the top speed difference between fully open and closed is around 45kph.
@@Jbroker404 It tends to overheat in a low-speed turn fight, especially in hot temperatures. It is a good bird at low level.

I think you need to switch aircraft. Badly.
In all the versions of Il2 i've played, I've NEVER won a turn fight against an LA5 in a 109. Why? Because the little Soviet Sods always high-gee yo-yo me.You may want to try this, as prolonged turning just burns off the LA%'s energy. Think; "It's a soviet 190" and fly accordingly. Well flown, it's a monster. And get CLOSER! 150 meters is too long. Get so close you can smell the beer and sauerkraut! Then get closer still.

Soviet 20mm cannon is rather low velocity, you need to lead a bit more.
Trofim needs to search for a new home! The 27th has been nothing but bad luck for him! His luck is going to run out soon and Jerry is going to punch his ticket!

33:14 - ONLY seven serviceable aircraft??? That's a large number when you only have THREE "serviceable" pilots.
It's time Trofim transferred out of that unit and out of that type of aircraft. In truth, the higher ups in the Soviet Air Force would NOT want one of their top aces in that DOG of an aircraft. Trofim would be bounced out of that unit in a heartbeat, to save Trofim and allow him to keep running up his score, for propaganda purposes if nothing more. I think Trofim needs to transition to the Fukowdidaer-1. In other words, GET THE FUKOWDIDAER!!!
After watching the past few episodes it is pretty obvious that the LA-5 is absolutely outclassed by the 109's it faces, even the 210's give it a challenge. The plane is underpowered and under gunned. Even the most inexperienced 109 pilots look like veteran aces against it. Cryshalo is correct, this is a plane to fly, take hits then nurse back to the field. Honestly, you would be doing the motherland a service by nursing a damaged plane over your lines, then bailing out of it. Maybe you could use them all up before more of your fellow pilots die in this POS death trap!
You killed more fish than Germans in that episode, Taff! You really need to avoid getting sucked into turn fights in this aircraft. You started correctly by mentioning the need to maintain an energy advantage then quickly went back to your old ways of trying to turn fight again as if you're still flying the Hurricane. Leave the Hurricane tactics behind you and boom and zoom. You have to lead your target more with Soviet cannons shells (all your shells were dropping behind the enemy) and for God's sake, close those flipping cowling flaps! You are carrying so much speed destroying drag with those hanging open. Short sharp bursts with your cannons to conserve ammo. Watching Sheriff's Sim Shack's two tutorial videos on the La-5 Series 8 will help you to learn how to improve your situational awareness and ability to fight in this aircraft.

Thats a tough aircraft to use aggressive tactics,it lacks power and turn capability,another good video though Taff!
Since the La-5 is so terrible at turn-fighting maybe try something like a high yo-yo to get inside the 109’s turns?
Ouch! 😯 that was hard going, at one point I thought our eponymous hero was going for a swim with the fishes 🐟 I'm suggesting a switch to the Yak3, I think it would suit Trofim's flying style much better, because as it is, the La5 is Trofim's flying coffin 😕☠ great video Taff 👍😉🏴

Taff it seems that the La-5 doesn't suit Comrade Trofim. Best switch to the Yak again. I'm certain on that mount Comrade Trofim will score regularly.

That aircraft has a radial engine so you cant see the target to give it enough lead, you will have to shoot blind and hope/

Yeah maybe a Yak 3 next time because I think for you the La-5 is cursed. Again though for some reason yellow wound stripes mark out the more serious wounds. But look on the bright side: with all the wound stripes Trofim is getting he'll look great for the ladies in addition to the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Reading all these negative comments on the La-5. Can't speak for this game, no. I have Wings of the Motherland, board game by Clash of Arms Games. In that, La-5s are pretty decent. They can for sure turn inside a 109.

Seems to be underpowered. Either that, or Taff isn’t using full throttle.
@@timonsolus I agree with underpowered. It can't keep up on turns or climbing at all and is outmatched on speed. Forces him to lob rounds downrange until he is out of ammo which would be a crazy but easy strategy for any 109 pilot to use
@@Mr_Unicorn16 LA-5 is equal to BF-109 and that is why it should be flown like BF. That means, do not follow enemy into to turns but keep your energy at all cost. Taff doing it completely opposite. It hurting me when I see him turn with minimal energy and fully opened radiator. I also wonder if he had mixture at 100% during fight. It helps a lot with engine cooling.

No sence of self preservation, flight engages enemy fighters. Taff has tunnel vision on anti aircraft guns, and gets bounced.

Yes in this career we have flown the hurricane, p40 and the LA5 which are all collectors aircraft for the series
