Rivian did a great job, really rooting for them. Definitely considering an R2.
Honestly, The r2 looks like a more attainable and functional version of the rivian r1. The glove compartments and the seats laying flat by itself is enough for this vehicle to move to the top of my purchase list. I hope to hear more about the r2 soon!
I have a feeling that as soon as the R3 is out, I'm trading in my Model 3 for it. I absolutely love it and wish it were before the R2.

Feel this. Current model 3 owner, and reserved the R2 during the launch, but then they put out the r3 and r3x! Will definitely be waiting for that r3x and transfer by ressy to that when it happens!

This thing will never make it to market. Rivian will be out of business in less than 2 years. They lose $43K on every vehicle they produce.

Great job on the video Jenna! Thanks for making it. You're totally right about that R3X. You could do a back seat delete on that thing, pop another battery pack back there, and have a super fun rally car. I could also see them making a model with a removable hard top.

A few questions from a R1S owner’s perspective:
1. How many speakers? They removed the front ones from the door but are they still placed throughout the cabin for a surround effect?
2. Without air suspension will it have different drive modes like the R1S?
3. Did they change the horn sound?
4. Are rear air vents only in the center console on the back row or on the pillars as well?
5. Were you able to see if there are accent lights around the dash and doors like on the R1S?
Bonus: With RJ mentioning the wireless charging pad will work this time, any insight on if Rivian will make a retrofit version available for the less than stellar charging pads in the R1 models?

R3 is a hatchback, a practical body style that would work for many who drive overweight and oversized SUVs.
It's the right choice for 98% of the public, but 'Murica.

They kind of look like Lada Niva
Looks like the r3 is a tiny compact or sub compact class cuv, est is 160" in length which is the same as a Ford fiesta se and 5" shorter than the already very small Volvo ex30 compact ev cuv. So not a family friendly setup vs the r2. More for young couples, empty nesters etc.
I bet it does outstanding outside America for sales and kinda terrible inside our country maybe around 30-40k unit's total.
R2 though should hit 150k+ easily if it's kept in the 45-55k without incentives for price. As that segment of 2 row crossovers and mid sized suvs Is 3-4,000,000 unit's a year in average sales here in the U.S. 👍🏻
Cuv compact segment usually does under 1million in total sales of ice annually spread across quite a few look alike segment competitors.
And the r3 will have to compete against the tesla compact shrunken model Y leaked with a cx30 body in China, the cx30 ev, the Volvo ex30 evs.
The kia ev3 ev rumored to start at just 30k US when it arrives late 2024 or early 2025, the kia ev4, the hyundai upcoming compact evs, the vw id.2 all and id.2 cuv leaked, the cupra compact cuv ev from spain in 2025, the mini ev cuv already out etc.
So a LOT of 30-40k ev compact competition is coming by 2026 or sooner and could already be on sale for a year or more&ramped up by then!
I think brand cache could help them here? Tesla nacs native port helps although port location is kinda curious.
Full or at least partial tax credits should help immensely. Vs most of the segment competitors might not have credits by then.
Might depend on if rivian can raise enough cash to survive until mid 2026 as well? Plus whoever becomes president this fall.
Even Biden is making compromises on slowing evs hoping to get relected vs trump is going to make it hard on all ev incentives if he is back. 😑

It's an unusual battery cell the 4695? I wonder who makes that for them. I haven't heard anyone make that form factor before. It sounds like just trying to one up Tesla on cell size :)
China’s Gotion is supposed to be making a large battery plant in Illinois. Maybe them?
Panasonic and Samsung sdi will make 4695s at scale for merc and BMW evs this year, allegedly gm is also switching over to this or another large sized cylindrical cells at 1 US upcoming ev cell supply plant with LG chem.

That's probably the only way Rivian will be able to stay in business is if some big company buys it.
