The destruction of Planet of the Mimes as recounted in The Journal of the Whills: Luke: Ben, what’s wrong? Ben: it’s as if a million souls suddenly cried out, without making a sound, as if suddenly silenced. ....this all makes much more sense now!
I look at Thundercats now and find it terrible. It just goes to show the power of good marketing and a catchy theme song. There were better toy lines and shows that were cancelled in its place.
Man ... I'll admit that Silverhawks is silly ... but so was most everything on TV in the 80s. I think the animation was far ahead of many of the contemporary shows of the time. You might be coming down a little hard on this one.
You were very harsh on this one, when I was a kid I loved the silver hawks, the last thing I would thought about is the reality of the show, of course now that you are an adult you can ask yourself those kind of things... my advise, don't overthink the cartoons you watched when you were a kid because all will have issues.
I have a feeling that whoever wrote Silverhawks must have read ROM, Spaceknight. It's also about a group of people who give up their human bodies to become mechanical soldiers in order to save their planet from invasion. They also share a very similar look.

Hotwing in Latinamerica was called "Indomito" which basically means Indomitable, then renamed into Sortilego which is akin to "Sorcerer"in English, probably because he always performed some magic tricks.

There has to be a certain level of suspension of disbelief when it comes to fiction. Without this, all shows would be subject to the same levels of cynicism. Which would reduce everything to being unwatchable. However.....though I haven’t watched all of Silverhawks, I’m well aware that Silverhawks had several issues. It was mentioned several times in “Hear the Roar” when brought up by staff. It would’ve done better to have a more centralized and on-going plot. And to those upset about Michael’s statement at the beginning about the changing process: I think it’s pretty clear that one of his bigger issues with it is how it’s so casually dealt with while having no world building concerning WHY it would be. As far as “ogled” by the camera....he seems to be having some tongue-in-cheek fun about it. Far as “Hot Wings” go......I’ve had a few Black friends that have brought him up when we’ve discussed this stuff. Not usually positively either. As opposed to Panthro, who tends to be universally loved by, well, everyone. While I disagree with Michael on many things in his ThunderCats review (R.I.P.), his criticisms of Silverhawks seems to be pretty valid. Even in “a kid’s show”, internal show mechanics must be maintained.

Hey RetroBlasting, just wanted to suggest that you guys take a look at the Star Wars Action Fleet line. They were focused on small hand sized ships and each ship came with two figures. They also had playsets and figure packs. It was a really neat and well rounded line for a long time. It finally started falling apart at episode one. They reduced the included figures to one and started dropping the quality. Was really sad when the line slowly faded.
@ 3:30 I think what is most frustrating (in retrospect) is that these five volunteer to be cyborgs to become...cops for another galaxy?!? I mean, if they had volunteered to save Earth that could give them some kind of tragic hero aspect, but instead they are sacrificing themselves to protect strangers and Earth isn't even a part of their 'jurisdiction'. Shucks, maybe do an episode where Mon*Starr tries to send a super weapon to destroy Earth for some kind of "They'll never know the sacrifices we made to save them back home!" kind of scene.
So you are disturbed by the human experiments in Silverhawks... but would like to see the planet of Mimes destroyed i.e. genocide? Just because you don't like their method of communication? Isn't that more disturbing?
Panthro was racist? Man as a kid Panthro was the man. I mean he was by far the favorite Thundercat in my neighborhood and I won't lie it may have been because we had next to no Black heroes in action shows, I guess Roadblock but he just rhymed and the other Joes bareky had screen time. That wasn't even his best quality. Story goes when the voice-acting was in actual production, Lee brought in an actual copy of "The Last Unicorn" and asked some of the script writers to include certain quotes directed from the book (he had that kind of pull). Learning this and given the number of "celebrities" who do voice work for properties they know little about because "I want to do something for my children = phone it in" gave me more respect for Lee than I had prior to learning about the story.
Hey, they were military and they volunteered.. The upside is they become effectively immortal and can travel in space unaided without exterior life support. Plenty of downsides, but... they did choose it. And there are folks that would. Besides, with the level of tech that allows this in the most nonchalant of fashion, chances are they could go back the other way.

This is an episode I've revisited a few times. I always experience some joy hearing Michael pick the show apart and the outburst about how the show is messed up. I agree, the concept sounds good. The execution is what is lacking. Mimes as a species is a bad idea, you know what I mean? Good to see this again.

@@retroblasting I'm just saying it was for kids. It don't have to make any scientific sense at all.
You're perspective is that kids don't need quality writing. We think differently.
@@retroblasting Are you a 80's baby? Look at all the Dr.Seus books they had us reading back then lol. I understand where you coming from. Silverhawks was more about the illustration and action for me. It really needs a reboot. It's a great concept to strip it down to the core and rebuild it.
I admit it has flaws but I liked this show.
But how do you really feel about the Silverhawks?
Alderaan.
Still love the series no matter how many convoluted issues that it has.
Wait...haven't I seen this video before?
I smell franchise with multiple universes and trilogies planned for the future
This is an episode I've revisited a few times. I always experience some joy hearing Michael pick the show apart and the outburst about how the show is messed up. I agree, the concept sounds good. The execution is what is lacking. Mimes as a species is a bad idea, you know what I mean? Good to see this again.
Wow I'm not going to lie to you after you talkin about silverhawks and bringing up some sound and valid points. That's like when you go back and watch your favorite cartoon as a kid and you realize like wow this show is seriously screwed up what was we thinking is kids
Have you ever looked into a show called Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs
