To be honest, Zhejiang Province, where the blogger lives, is the richest province in China, so the rural infrastructure there is also very good. If you go to some poorer provinces, the situation will be completely different. The roads will not be so good, and the buses will be relatively dilapidated.

      My father lived in Shenzhen and would go to Hong Kong to shop groceries because the level of food quality and food safety is much higher even if it's grown in China. As soon as it crossed the border, there was much stricter controls. Just because it's fresher and laid out by a cute auntie doesn't make it better or safer to eat. When people say that China's losing money on its transit systems/not making profits, but seeing that regular bus service to a tiny village tells a different story. Is that bus route making money? probably not, but it brings people and goods to other cities and towns, which helps those other local economies. You can cook the pig tails just the same way as ox tails... just a lot less meat. 😅😅😅

    • @kats_journey_east

      I've heard that silly thing before too , it's a public service for the people not a for profit enterprise. by that same logic the US public school system is also "losing money" 😂

      @crimson0119 Рік тому +8

      @@kats_journey_east Sadly US (and even Canada) are starting to lose sight what SHOULD be for the public service and what is for profit..... Oh, not sure if its the same in your rural markets, but usually at the markets I go to near closing time, they do big price drops for their produce because they just want to sell it all.... Great time to pickup cheap fruits. :)

      Public services are not, should not be profitable, it's there for the convenience, safety and wellbeing of the people at large, not just for those who can pay. Imagine having to pay a large sum of money for a government hospital ambulance service when it should have been free.

Syngenta is one of the largest agricultural biotechnology companies, making GMO seeds and herbicides with many operations in USA and headquarters Europe. Syngenta was formed by the merger of Novartis and AstraZeneca crop division, and is now owned by China National Chemical Corp., a Chinese state company. Many US farmers use Syngenta agricultural inputs to produce what is in your shopping cart.

Your recording provides a vivid experience of living in rural China and interacting with the rural communities with maybe an urban (probably inaccurate but with an educated and philosophical approach) perspective. The comments from the vendors/ sellers about how much hard work it is to provide the fresh produce are touching. There is so much social value for the community to be able to interact with the market.
