Awwwww... absolutely adorable, thank you for sharing yr life moments with us in this amazing place. I myself look forward moving to Zhuhai in a yr for retirement ( well very early retirement ) from Canada. the World and China needs more positive people like you. I always find it is heart warming to see a non Chinese person somehow can appreciate China, its culture and people more than many Chinese. it is just to show that Everything Everywhere can be beautiful and exciting, its up to us to open our eyes to it.

Having grown up there since 1999 and left for US in 2010 it was an unforgettable 11 years of my life. I also lived just steps away from the first McDonald’s in Tiyudong and spend most of my time around Grand View mall ice skating and going to movies up on the 7th floor. So glad to have someone like you also enjoyed the city but from another background.

Enjoy your videos very much. Visited Guangzhou many times, and have fond memories.
First visited the city in 1990s, just when the old small houses were tear down to make way for the high rises. In the 2000s, the city was booming but it was unsafe. Then the city seemed to have a rebirth in the early 2010s and became very safe.

This video just hit me hard. I was born and raised in Guangzhou. Had my college in Canada, and careers in Shanghai and HK. However, Guangzhou always holds a special place in my heart. Thank you Alysa and thank you for your poetic video that saves me from homesick

    一直在广州工作到现在,虽然广州是一线城市,但是相对其他一线城市来说是相当宜居的,是一个会让人留恋产生感情的城市,快速变化的同时希望可以保留广州粤韵广州味。

As a 35 year old who was born in Guangzhou, but left to live in London when I was 6 years old, this felt like a glimpse of what might have been had I stay. It's been almost 10 years since I've been in Guangzhou, this is like a prompt for me to go back. Thank you Alysa for sharing your important rites of passage, I'm glad this city gave you these wonderful memories and may it always be a special place for you.

As China is way modern now and probably even better quality of life than U.S now days,
the interesting part is that your destiny it's pretty much inverted what Chinese people did 30 years ago.

I was born and raised in Guangzhou, and lived there for the first 20 years of my life. I have been living in Canada for another 20 years now.

This is a beautiful video showcasing the journey of both Guangzhou and you over the years. I may not live in Guangzhou, but I have family who grew up there and still live there. When you began talking about Shamian Island, I recognised it immediately, since it was one of the places I visited on my trip in 2016. My mother also worked for the White Swan Hotel, which is on the island as well. Well done for expressing both your story and the story of Guangzhou so wonderfully. :)

You know, Alysa. I was born in Guandzhou too. Now I am a medical professional in an international city not too far away. Just like what you show in the video, Guangzhou always occupies an important place in my heart. The places you went to in your childhood, I went there too. 😊 It seems that we have some form of attachment just because of this wonderful city.

I like your videos! It's interesting to me to see the reverse of my situation. I am an Asian who grew up in an environment where the vast majority of the population is not Asian. Early in my life, I frequently get asked questions such as "no, where are you really from?" a lot... It is what it is, I would take questions like these rather than discriminatory treatment / looks any day. At least people that ask are usually more curious and wanted to learn more though some times it does come off as being rude, but I don't think they realize it.
You are actually in a prime position to make more videos on helping foreigners navigate China. China can be overwhelming for many that come from the west and don't speak the language and/or aware of cultural / customary differences. I think you can be that bridge. It's also reversible, you can also help some Chinese and other Asians understand why westerners think or act the way they do. Best wishes for your channel, you got one more subscriber in me.
