    "Here's Baleful Strix but you only get deathtouch sometimes"
    "Yep still playing that"
    "What about this Baleful Strix but you _never_ get deathtouch and you have to pay more mana to get the card"
    "Still gonna put that in my deck"
    "Oh ffs what about Baleful Strix but still no deathtouch and also it costs one more mana and also you only get the card next turn and sometimes not at all"

    at 57:42, i don't think you need to pyroblast the metamorph. a clone effect is technically an ability of a creature on the battlefield; even though the game applies it before the creature enters, it looks at the permanent as it _would_ exist on the battlefield in order to find that ability, and with dress down out it isn't there to find. then again maybe mtgo does it wrong, idk.
    great games either way, love the evil laugh you do when you Get Away With It

    Round 2, Game 2: the opponent won with Urza's Saga beats, Dress Down was out of the deck, and you had a Raven's Warning in hand the whole game. If you had played the Raven's Warning on three or four, you would have had time to tutor Dress Down to the top of your library, draw it, and wipe out those constructs.

    • @bobbymccullough3210

      I was thinking the same thing. It looks like the thought process was that he was trying to get as much advantage planning for a long game as possible instead of immediately trying to stop the Saga beats. On the one hand, it's impossible to know that your opponent drew 3 Urza's Sagas in the top 11 cards of their deck, but on the other hand, I think that the threat assessment after the second Saga was a little poorly conceived.

    I came for the dark words but I feel like those would cause someone to fail to get paid by UA-cam. So I’m curious about which dark words. 👀
    Also, I know reanimate is the correct card to bring back grief but the modern scam deck used to run 8 cards to bring a card back with like 3 to 5 cards that do work for that even in modern so would it be wrong in legacy to include 4 copies of animate dead or would not dead after all or persist be better options or is just 4 copies of reanimate just correct? I asked because of the first opponent. Some of those don’t cause a loss of life but are dead cards except maybe the same turn as pitch casting grief or having something that sticks killed since they won’t just animate dead creatures later on like reanimate does.

    • @sephi.
      @sephi. Місяць тому

      Modern uses 8+ of those cards exactly because the player *needs* to have one at the time they evoke a Grief. Reanimate is leagues better because of no time restrictions, so you don't have to put jank cards in your deck just to make a hipotetically turn 1 scam happen. They are really awful cards and not at all legacy playable, modern only plays them because the evoke elementals are so good that they elevate the bad cards (which without them would be limited combat tricks, as designed. They are only in the deck FOR Grief, even if they may end up useful in other situations. If Grief ever gets banned it's pretty much goodbye to those cards). And also, ReScanimator does run Animate Dead, it's not only 4 copies of Reanimate and that's it. Can't tell you anything about that mono-black scam deck because it's far from the norm and I don't know the list. But yeah, with real, actually good reanimation cards (that work with any creature card in the deck, including Atraxa and the rare but useful 0/1 Bowmasters), playing those cards seen in modern will hurt your deck a lot. Modern invests more in turn 1s with the bad cards because they can't have the same staying power as the legacy version since the "best" actual reanimation card in modern makes your Griefs die to Bowmasters among other things (and no Dark Rituals in sight if you want to use a 2 mv card on turn 1)

    • @dustinfurness2155
      @dustinfurness2155 Місяць тому

      @@sephi. I was thinking about that as well. I was also considering how grief reanimate grief turn 1 is a lot more impactful than grief turn 1 reanimate grief on turn 6. The bad cards make this more feasible on turn 1 (they only cost 1 mana) and in the off chance you did happen to be at low life you’d get a lot more from grief + not dead after all on turn 4 (strip 2 card AND block) over grief + reanimate and dead to everything they might top deck. Rescaminator also doesn’t want cards that don’t work on troll of kazaldum or atraxa so no “reanimate non-legendary” or “reanimate creature 3 cmc or less” or “reanimate creature that DIED this turn” when you’d probably be winning if atraxa didn’t get countered even if they did kill it so there’d be no point for the “combat trick” of just bringing atraxa right back if it did die and I guess you still could if reanimate or animate dead were in the list of cards picked up by atraxa. The bad cards are just bad but there are edge cases where turn 1 scam grief without losing 3 life or ramping into animate dead on turn 1 would be slightly preferred.
      And I guess the orzhov build that might be gaining some popularity because of the new card can do that even better by playing 4x solitude 4x grief 4x reanimate 4x ephemorate 4x troll as the core package. You don’t have to lose 3 life if you start with ephemorate and can thoughtseize 3 times with grief and if you did reanimate solitude you exile 2 creatures and gain the 3 life back rather quickly because it has like link and even if these did die and stay dead bringing them back a second time has enough of an impact on the game that they’re still worth playing. And there you could still ephemorate grief and reanimate troll which might be more gross than when people were scamming fury alongside grief. You can chump block fury to avoid taking 6 or 8 and with solitude and swords to plowshares backing these up that troll isn’t getting triple blocked.
      The nice thing about the Orzhov build for people who like legacy and modern is that a person could almost play the same deck in both formats with fewer changes to the deck than are necessarily playing “delver” as “izzet murktide” since you don’t have to replace delver with Ragavan and force of will with counterspell on top of replacing volcanic island with shock lands. Just change the duals (scrublands?) to godless shrines and put one of those “bad” reanimate cards in there to supplement the turn 1 scam plan. If it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen but that’s something you’d have to deal with in modern over legacy. Maybe they’ll ban grief and unban fury in modern if that becomes a thing.

    • @sephi.
      @sephi. Місяць тому

      @@dustinfurness2155 you're really overestimating life loss. Life is a resource, a win ate 20 is the same as a win at 1. Ephemerate is A LOT better than those other cards, but for ReScanimator it's still not good because you have to have it in your hand at the time you evoke Grief, plus it doesn't work with the rest of the deck. And the pattern is usually Grief + Reanimate fairly often, and if not, there are FOUR Animate Deads for turn 2, AND the full 8 cantrip suite to help find Reanimate. Modern only has mulligans for consistency iirc. The deck also is a FoW AND Daze/Wasteland deck, it directly attacks opponents resources while disrupting them beyond just the Grief. It's not a deck trying to grind a turn 6 Reanimated Grief, by that point you want the game to be over already and/or maybe (re)Animating the Grief is still worth it since by now it's a war of attrition, and 2 for 1s and great at helping winning the long game. If the game goes long, then you're probably not THAT low on life or you'd be dead. But if you're on 4 or less, Animate Dead is right there, just as it was there on T1 or 2; Reanimating Bowmasters is there, Animating ATRAXA is there.
      Seriously, go on mtggoldfish.com and take a look at the decks (a few traditional Reanimator lists got lumped together, but it's all under the first deck there - even if they still call it Reanimator - , the one with 14% meta share). The deck is done, it's the best and most played deck in the entire format, diluting its gameplan by playing awful cards or having to transform the deck completely and/or add a third color with the sole purpose to make the # of explosive turn 1s go up (ou saving life points, I guess?) is really, REALLY not good and the numbers already show this.
      Also on going BW in Legacy? I can only understand this for budget reasons, but then again if it's the case we are having 2 different conversations. I'm trying to explain the staples for the #1 deck, budget if far from my consideration here. If the conversation is budget oriented, then I'd like to have known this from the beginning since that's now a conversation I'm going to have. BW is viable in modern, but look at the decklists and look at what blue brings to the table for Legacy. Modern doesn't have Daze, FoW, Ponder, Brainstorm (Wasteland too, even if not blue) and at the core this is a Tempo deck and by being THE #1 deck at the moment I think the core cards have already proved themselves.
      You don't have to be averse to losing life, as soon as you understand it's just a resource and the only actual important number is 0, the sooner you stop trying to think of bad alternatives just to save life. Grief + NDAA + Grief is good. Grief + Reanimate + Grief + FoW + maybe Daze, maybe Brainstorm, maybe Ponder, maybe Animate Dead is so far better than the 50% higher *potential* turn 1 double Grief, and that's why those cards are bad. Seriously, you would have to change a huge part of the plan for one slightly more explosive but a lot less resilient (no T2 Atraxa/Archon/Troll if there's no Animate Dead and instead cards that need your creature to actually die instead of just being put in the graveyard with Swampcycling or the 4 Entombs, for example) AND make space to awful cards, it's not worth it. This is legacy, most of the time you can't fart around with a card that will be bad 90% of the time and still win.
      If I still wasn't able to help you undestand this then idk, maybe look for a deck primer on google because people have asked these questions and here we are, with 0 of those cards on sight and the best deck in Legacy RN. And yeah, no, I'm not getting into unbanning Fury stuff. (if I sounded too harsh I apologize, I just wanted to be thorough since I was already here, and the reality of modern cards being actually completely unplayable in lecacy can be pretty hard to grasp too). And still not being harsh or trying to be a jerk, I'm tapping out of the convo. I alreay hate typing up long messages to people I will never se again, but I was trying to help. Since there had to be a second one, this is as far as I go. If you need more, google a ReScanimator primer and study the lists from here: www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/legacy#online
      Best of luck and have a good day!

      @@sephi. I’m completely aware of that. Mostly what I was considering was the speed at when a person could get the second grief trigger and then I was considering how reanimate could also become a dead card too. You can beat emrakul if you’re at 16 life with 6 permanents and you top deck Karakas (even if it gets wastelanded) because they may not be able to get emrakul back in play and you could dodge losing more life or build back to maybe 7 life to not die from every possible top deck, and only if they cheat emrakul back into play would you be in some serious danger of losing immediately after you start to rebuild. You’d also have a better shot at winning if emrakul never hit the battlefield in the first place. So do you want to scam grief on turn 1 after your opponent mulligans to 5 or wait until turn 4 to hard cast another grief or reanimate the one that died? If you’re relying on turn 4 reanimate it might also be too late if you’re at 3 life.
      These edge cases may not be worth the risk of playing bad cards in your deck but those bad cards make grief a little better in modern if you’re not playing something like ephemorate next to reanimate to bring grief right back on the same turn. If grief can’t be brought back on the same turn then reanimate and animate dead are better than cards that do nothing. Maybe the balance between these options is why legacy scam decks forgo the modern way of doing it. Maybe the legacy way is just better 80-90% of the time and the 10-20% of the time doing it the modern way in legacy is better doesn’t justify including bad cards.

      @@dustinfurness2155 again, 4 Reanimates PLUS 4 Animate Deads, PLUS entomb for more powerful cards, PLUS none of the modern cards work with creatures that don't actually *die* and are put into the yard. And there's this PLUS more disruption thanks to the rest of the deck. You're way too focused on a single turn play that even if not AS consistent as T1 modern, is well supported by the rest of the deck and no, casting Grief turn 4 is not the deck's gameplan, it's only something that could happen if both players are left resourceless, just as it happens in modern. I don't know why you're so laser focused on cast Griefs late while we have the same amount of reanimation AND more ways to put it in the yard. The one thinking anyone is *relying* on a turn 4 reanimate here is you. The goal is Grief twice turn 1. IF that's not possible, then it's another one turn 2 or even something a lot stronger and sticky. But yeah, I'm done, go play some mtgo Legacy leagues with barely modern playable combat tricks in your deck if nothing I say has any meaning whatsoever.
      And idk what to say about the Emrakul rant, that has nothing to do with nothing here.
      Now you got me really tired of repeating myself over and over and still not getting what I'm saying oh so absurdly clearly, so go question someone else or research some material. I'm done here and muting whatever comes after this. I was trying to be direct but polite at the start but good lord, is like you read, or at least retained, 2 lines of text.
