Now I work at Amazon and all I see getting shipped are white/pink carhartt beanies/sweatshirts (never in my life had I seen one before). This is basically doc Martin boots, poor people wear something then celebrities wear it and then everyone wears it and it decreases in quality. Can't wait for wolverine/redwing boots to be "fashionable".
This is what I've always said and then I proceed to get slammed with derision. When you actually need durable workwear for your career, it's frustrating when the price goes up but the quality goes down, but oh well, at least companies like Carhartt, Filson, Timberland, and Red Wing are making good money from the cosplay community. It kills me when you see people saying "I've had my X jacket for a million years, and it's still in perfect condition! You should buy one, because I wear it to my office job and to grab my daily Starbucks, so I can confidently attest to it's durability!".

Carhartt was never affordable really, at least not by my estimation. I've been wearing it since I was a baby and times were tough then, but if you could get 10 years out of an $80 coat, that was pretty good. the prices haven't really changed much in the last 20 years. I just bought a detroit jacket MIU brand new for $75 less than 2 years ago. Even their staple B01 pants are still under $100. Not entirely expensive but definitely not cheap either. I think you guys just like to find things to complain about.

I wore Carhartt in the 90s when I was a forklift Operator for US Gypsum. I hated that job. Nothing like loading wall board onto flatbed trucks with the bay doors open, no heat and it’s 5 degrees with the cold wind blowing off the Hudson. Nothing keeps you warm. Not even Carhartt.

I work maintenance at a university. I do just about everything manual and skilled labor. Carhartt is basically all I wear. Not to work though, I wear 20 dollar wranglers and dickies t shirts.

You may say that it is exactly because they are weak minded or they play the safest option - like the video shows - that they decided to produce in Mexico, India - probably Bangladesh too - not because they are what they claim to be, meaning a honorable company with great heritage and strong values. What I suspect is that Carhartt is doing exactly what most clothing companies are doing: they don't own any factory outside of the US. They only sign contracts with institutions located in low wage countries and ask them to provide a specific amount of branded clothes at a dirt cheap price. What I claim is that there is a subtle attitude from Carhartt in deceiving costumers by making them to believe that they hold strongly to their traditional principles of quality and craftmanship when in reality they are just like most other companies: a brand already present in the memory of most Americans that is worth to exploit up to the last penny at the expenses of the unaware costumer. A nice twist in the evolution of this 100% American family business from trustful company to masters of deception.

We live in a country that is roughly split in 1/3. 1 side believes this and side 2 believes that with side 3 going back and forth between the other 1 and 2 positions. So becoming political active always affects the bottom line. If it increases the customer base then profits will follow. If it decreases the customer base then this will cause financial losses. This will also create the opportunity for competitors gain. What the customer base has traditionally been was and is are blue collar conservative. If they can afford to lose them and continue growth with the lefties than all will be good. I don't see how that could happen but maybe it can. Why get involved with a situation that can be avoided?

I lost weight and wanted one more fitted and bought the newer ones and they are so thin and no longer a jacket that holds up to the Chicago winter on it’s own. Looks nice but not warm at all with a thin cheaper Sherpa lining

I wore Carhartt in the 90s when I was a forklift Operator for US Gypsum. I hated that job. Nothing like loading wall board onto flatbed trucks with the bay doors open, no heat and it’s 5 degrees with the cold wind blowing off the Hudson. Nothing keeps you warm. Not even Carhartt.

I work maintenance at a university. I do just about everything manual and skilled labor. Carhartt is basically all I wear. Not to work though, I wear 20 dollar wranglers and dickies t shirts.
The only hardworking people directly involved with the brand are those in India and Mexico manufactoring clothes for Carhartt.
Most of Carhartt used to be made in the USA. It's really sad how they've chose profit over their heritage.

You may say that it is exactly because they are weak minded or they play the safest option - like the video shows - that they decided to produce in Mexico, India - probably Bangladesh too - not because they are what they claim to be, meaning a honorable company with great heritage and strong values. What I suspect is that Carhartt is doing exactly what most clothing companies are doing: they don't own any factory outside of the US. They only sign contracts with institutions located in low wage countries and ask them to provide a specific amount of branded clothes at a dirt cheap price. What I claim is that there is a subtle attitude from Carhartt in deceiving costumers by making them to believe that they hold strongly to their traditional principles of quality and craftmanship when in reality they are just like most other companies: a brand already present in the memory of most Americans that is worth to exploit up to the last penny at the expenses of the unaware costumer. A nice twist in the evolution of this 100% American family business from trustful company to masters of deception.

We live in a country that is roughly split in 1/3. 1 side believes this and side 2 believes that with side 3 going back and forth between the other 1 and 2 positions. So becoming political active always affects the bottom line. If it increases the customer base then profits will follow. If it decreases the customer base then this will cause financial losses. This will also create the opportunity for competitors gain. What the customer base has traditionally been was and is are blue collar conservative. If they can afford to lose them and continue growth with the lefties than all will be good. I don't see how that could happen but maybe it can. Why get involved with a situation that can be avoided?

It was really heavy, but didn't actually keep me very warm, and wasn't the least bit waterproof. And worse yet, it's association with 'the American worker' is a crock of shit! All that crap is made in Asia. They're expensive too! I heard it was American made many years ago, like maybe when getting your milk delivered by milkmen was a thing.

Sorry to tell everyone I’ve been in construction for over 20 years and I can honestly tell you they don’t make Carhart clothing like they used to back in the day, it’s a joke now it’s lighter duck cloth, Some of the jackets have less down in them, The quality isn’t there like it used to be, just look at some of the vintage jackets if you got any of them what a difference in what they make not like nowadays facts!
That's true. Here in Germany it's pretty much impossible to get a pair of good old duck trousers. They're only selling this weird stretchy ones. I order most of my workwear from the US, because over here nothing really comes close to classic made carhartt workwear.
Carhartt still has some good items, but they are modernizing designs. If you want more traditional stuff then Duluth is where it's at.
I totally agree with you. I bought the Bartlett jacket 8-9 years ago and it was so warm and lined with a very quality Sherpa lining.
I lost weight and wanted one more fitted and bought the newer ones and they are so thin and no longer a jacket that holds up to the Chicago winter on it’s own.
