  • I brought home a few fun plants from a large nursery and I thought I'd show you all how I repot them out of their peat moss swamp and treat some potentially pest-ridden plants in order to safely introduce them to my collection! (Featuring Erwin the Earwig)

Just want to mention that the issue I’ve had with the “death plug” is not the mesh plug itself, it’s that they usually use peat moss as the growing medium, and the mesh keeps a dense cylinder of peat right at the center of the root ball, and that has resulted in rot to the stem/roots for some of my plants. The roots clearly can grow through the mesh, I don’t think that matters really. But that sopping wet peat moss that never seems to dry out is another story. (Peat moss hate). I enjoyed seeing your process for handling plants coming from less than stellar conditions. I love a bargain, but not so much the pests that sometimes come with that discount. 😬 💚🪴

I spent $50 on the world’s smallest Billietiae here in Southern California last year. I so envy your options and prices there in Canada.
    Great haul.
Great video. As usual, I keep learning new things from your content.
    Grateful.

I agree, I live in Florida where most of the plant people grow as houseplants grow outside and our plant prices seem way higher than other places.

My local independent nursery lady knows nothing about plants bless her. Every time I see something rare and cheap she just says “oh yeah I got them really cheap”. Sometimes she gives me freebies and I feel so bad.

I have read the same thing about bonide and spider mites, but I use bonide on every single one of my plants as a preventative, for at least a year now, and ive never had spider mites. For what it's worth 🙂

This video is such a treat! Thank you! I live in FL and grow outdoors and even I can’t use the nursery soil, everything rots! I always check for those fabric seed starter things too. Before I knew why they stunted so much growth! Thank you for all your tips!

A greenhouse near to me has that milky residue on some of their plants and it is a copper treatment for fungus. Or that is what they have told me

I got the exact same Systemic granules as you have - I’ve ordered it twice off Amazon, kills everything but Spider mites .
I just need to write down when I used it on what plants . Plant journal will help me a lot
I’m going to order some of the spray you said works for thrips .
I know I use a small plastic spoon and keep it in the Bonide bottle In the instructions it says do not use one of your utensils 🥄 or you should throw it away . Try not to touch it ! ♥️🍃
I always learn something watching you 👍🏼

Those awful mesh plugs are the primary reason my PPP did so poorly for like a year. I didn't realize it was there until I repotted it and the roots couldn't make it beyond the mesh I didn't notice. Also, I hate the heavy soil mix, the plants are always saturated and drowning when I buy them. The only plant I've left in that soil is my Makoyana because it's still alive and looks great and I don't want to give it a reason to stop living. And I can't believe how cheap the billietiae is. In the states, a cheap one is still $75. I have started seeing burle marx (green) in the nurseries for a few bucks though.

@youdontevengrowhere please tell me how long do you leave them away from daylight or grow lidhts with either Systematic pesticide on, so thry don't burn? I did neen oil and water, left over night without light. Put my plants on the windowsill with morning sun, and they burnt. Yet they had about 15 hours out of light. Its because oil doesn't evaporate 😢

Hello! I’ve been watching so much UA-cam lately and possibly already watched another video about your alocasias (I’m not sure).. but I’m new to alocasia and have had a lot of leaves drop after repotting. I repotted mine in my own soil mix. Do you have another video about just alocasia care? I have pon but I don’t really use it for very many plants. I just don’t really seem to like it (as of right now 😆).
Grateful for any tips you can share. (Only 12 mins into this video when I decided to comment because I’m about to go back to work and I don’t want to forget to reach out)

I had a death plug kill my plant by cutting through the large roots and when I found it the damage was to much and the plant died. I bought another and took it off rt away and the plant is great

I also love the Alocasia Azlanii I prefer this one more don’t really like the Cuprea one. Yes they are expensive. Is like €50 here and mine isn’t doing so well which is sad. I am having a hard time with my Alocasia collection. Philodendron Billietiae also one of my favourites the leaves long so amazing when matured. I saw a baby version for €20. Wow 3 dollars such a bargain and the leaves look lovely. I am obsessed with the Anthurium Veitchii the leaves veins looks so out of the world but haven’t seen them for sell probably be expensive. I have the Alocasia Scalprum too after seeing in unplanparenthood Charmaine video. They are expensive too like €55. I find it to be a thirsty one. If my Alocasia collection is doesn’t well i be giving them up. I always repot my new plants when bring in you just don’t know what is in the soil and roots are ok. And i wash it down too the leaves with lemon dish water.
