Yep. He is written consistently as well. From his interaction with the elevator dude, to his disgust at Roger's blackface and his utter devastation at MLK's death. Ofc his behaviour in those instances is the bare minimum and what is automatically expected of a decent human being but still.
Pete, who was my favorite character on the show, was always slightly more progressive then the other characters, even though he was a blue blood. I think they wrote him like that to show that a) he was slightly younger then the other main men on the show and b) because there was always this angst about him wanting to be more than his upbringing.
The best thing about all of AMC's shows is that they all have a strong cinematic feel than HBO, Starz, or Showtime. Mad Men and Breaking Bad both seem like a long incomplete film told in multiple parts in their respective conclusions. The Walking Dead is a horror film. The Killing is a noirish mystery. Rubicon (I never got the chance to experience that) is a conspiracy thriller. And Hell On Wheels is a Western. Now AMC needs a great science fiction show and maybe a great comedy. Long live AMC!
What about FX it's got some of the best damn series ever SONS OF ANARCHY is a motorcycle series it's part of a four story arc. American Horror stories is an anthology series with each season has it's own story.
I knew Don would be mad with Megan, for throwing a party. He's so not fun. Here Megan is: a young, beautiful, free spirit kind of girl. Which is something Don will and never does get use to. The one thing that displeased me with Megan, is when she brought another women into their bed. That kind of thing doesn't set well with me. It surprised Don. Although he didn't stop it, he didn't really care for it. I respect Don for that. I mean, that just isn't a good thing. Don was married to someone like Betty. Treated her awful. She wanted Don. Look how he treated Betty. He was better to Megan, than he was Betty. I can certainly understand how Betty felt the night she had to drop by Don & Megan's place, and saw Megan undressing. Betty wasn't a party girl. . She did like to be wined & dined. Which Don didn't do much of that, with her. He was too busy off with someone's else wife or someone else. All the women crazy about Don. He can be possessive, controlling, and boring. He does know how to drink, smoke, and have sex. And, in that order. He can be good at his job. Very good when it suits him. He's so arrogant. He's compulsive. Decides to take off for a few days. Who cares. That's Don for you. Then Roger marries Jane. Both he and Don married babies, so to speak. They need to have fun, and need people around. Which is something Don nor Roger cared for. Don is nice looking. And, he certainly knows how to seduce women. Women fall all over him. I think Roger is just as nice looking myself. He's just a big baby. But, at least Roger has a sense of humor. And he knows he can be an ass. If it were me, I'd rather go out with Roger. He would be a lot of laughs. There's this side to Don, his past haunts him. He did have a bad childhood. So, for that, I suppose I can forgive him. He never really had a life, until he went to work for Roger. I believe he was happy with Betty when they married. He just got bored. I think he has a sex addiction. I mean look at all the women, he's had. Even their married neighbors. Peggy, I knew this kid she was engaged too. That was just something she didn't even want. This guy certainly wasn't appealing. I believe she wanted that to end. Or she would have told Don she had important plans. She & Don did have a special relationship. One thing about Don, he feels for the underdog. Not that Peggy is. No, Peggy is her own person. I mean we've seen the good side of Don, as well. Don is just lost. Covers-up his pain and loneness with booze & women. Like that's going to fill his void. I believe the day he went over to his old home to pick up the boxes, he saw another man taking his place. He was mowing his lawn. It hit him, just what he really lost. And, when Betty's new husband told him that they were having Gene's party, it would better if came on another day -- I liked that Don showed up. It sure made Betty's new husband mad. It also made Betty's day. Did anyone notice that? I can't think of her new husband name. Senior moment. He knows that Betty still had feelings for Don. He was no fool. But, the new husband could be a better man. He wouldn't allow her to act like a baby. I mean: the way she slapped Sally. Fired the baby sitter. He does have his good side. He's better for Betty, I think. Betty finally got what she wanted. Towards the end before she got sick, she was beginning to settle down into her new found happiness. She was on her way, to being a better person. We all have to grow up. Life can be hard. We learn from our mistakes. We may lose on the way. But, we also gain something back. At least, some do. Happiness can be hard. Those who find it. Don't take it for granted. The other side isn't always as green as Betty's side was. I suppose I've typed to much. Sorry. I do love this show. I just starting watching it several months back. I did binge. I've watched it 2 times through. And, I'm watching it again. Each time, I learn something new. All the actor's are exceptionally very good at what they do. I wish they would bring the show back. With Sally in College and see how things might be now for the show. I think it would be great. I really do. I hope you all have enjoyed this show as much as I have. I'm not well. I'm in bed most the time, now. Don't know how much longer I'll be here. . This show has kept me going.
I didn't notice until somebody pointed it out: the threesome in California not only was a desperate attempt from Megan to save the marriage, but it all happened in a similar way to the events when he lost his virginity to Aimee in the whorehouse, except for one plus lady. So it makes sense how he reacted to it.
@Double D’s She was unhappy because she was kept (or kept herself) to an impossibly high standard, was completely dependent on Don, and any time she tried to make use of her intellect/skill etc. she was put back in her place. Fulfilling nothing but a decorative function is detrimental to the psyche of anyone with a brain and soul. I think a large part of her existential discontent comes from the thought of "I am doing everything as I am supposed to, so why am I still so unhappy?" Plus all her relationships are very superficial and performative. She mostly seems to serve Don as an object of status. How can you be happy pretending that your husband, someone who does not trust or respect you, is the love of your life? I wish the show had delved even more into her psyche, as she seems to live with the burden of her impeccable, and implicitly abusive mother (you can see her trying to force this burden onto Sally as well, by putting an overemphasis on her appearance for example). TLDR: Women are not pets, happiness is not gained through being kept in a lovely cage with nice food.
@Double D’s she was raised to think that a woman's purpose is serving a man. That's why she kept choosing the image of perfect housewife over independence.
I don't understand the bitchin' about this start of season 5 - it was astounding! So much was happening that you really need to watch it 2-3 times to catch most of it. Did you notice how Cooper is suddenly treated as irrelevant? Peggy's unease around Megan? Don having lost his hunger? Pete being utterly miserable? Roger's fear? Do you hear the thunder in the distance of women's and the civil rights movement? Loved. Every. Minute!!!
I guarantee you that for every one person who cringed there were 5 who fell in love with her. I just read that they are releasing a single of Jessica Pare singing that song.
I wonder why Matt didn’t allow the audience to experience Joan being pregnant at the office. Like, I would’ve loved to see what her maternity clothes looked like, Roger’s looks, comments and actions would’ve been. Even what the women would’ve said about her.
I imagine he didn't show it to reflect the time period: it was still scandalous to be pregnant and working.... Women could get fired for being pregnant at this point and it wasn't something someone like Joan in such a high-level position would want to show so much. Ppobably because it could be associated as her being some kind of delicate flower who couldn't possibly handle nurturing an unborn baby and doing the work every day she needs to do.
I loved this episode. I've been jonesing for it for months. I only discovered it in November and watched all 4 seasons at once on Netflix (yeah I get obsessed). This was great. It wasn't everything I expected and I like that! I spend WAY too much time think about these charaters. Its really kind unhealthy.
I've wondered if Megan actually knew about Don being a philanderer. She seemed to know him in every other aspect and accepted the fact of him being Dick Whitman quite well.
She knew. She knew he fucked his secretary, Allison and she also fucked Don when he was dating Faye. She played up to Don, feigning interest in advertising in order to seduce him. It worked, but like all women who go after bad boys, even her cooch was not enough to win over Don. Don Draper is the human wood chipper for women.
no it gets much more interesting and dramatic and in some cases more depressing... it does get a bit funnier too. Season 5 is a little strange so far and one of the episodes was scary as hell
Peter walks into his office. Trips somehow, hit's his nose on the wall or door, couldn't tell. He then yells for his secretary. Screaming at her -- informing her that: Roger, was not staring at her bosom -- he was looking at his/Peter's calendar. Poor Peter doing most the work. The only one really concerned about the company, it seems. Well, Peggy does obviously, and Jane. If it weren't for Jane, I don't know how anything would get done. She's a top notch executive secretary. I don't dislike Peter. He treats the clients very well. As for Don. He can be an ass at times. Even to the clients. We've seen that. Don's way or the highway. I don't blame Peter for being mad at his secretary, whatever her name is. She's not pretty at all. She's sort of homely. She actually thinks Roger might like her in some way. Roger pretends to be flirting with her, when all the while, he's checking Peters calendar out. Roger has even hurt the company.
Also, I love referring to it as "AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS." Not American Movie Channel like some people have called it. Thats a sucky name/slogan. "American Movie Classics with a little extra originality."
One of the best tv shows of all time. However I think they screwed the pooch when they killed off Lain he was a very interesting character of the show.
I think Jessica Pare could have easily become the classics in women's beauty. However, her appearance in some shitty films before MadMen make it problematic..
Too bad AMC became so greedy and copyright injunctioned all of the online streaming.. They probably make more money by having people purchase the extended commentary and bonus features on DVD, otherwise people just forget about the show and its becomes irrelevant.. Update netflix at the very least
Roger: "Why can't you sing like her?"
Jane: "Why don't you look like him?"
Burn! 🔥😂
I love the way Roger holds the baby with the cigarette hanging out of his mouth 😆
There's my baby... now move that brat outta the way so I can see her. You just gotta love Roger. haha
Yep we got to
And the truth is that it is his baby lol.
One thing about Pete. He seemed to be happy while watching the African American secretaries turned in their resumes to Lane.
Yep. He is written consistently as well. From his interaction with the elevator dude, to his disgust at Roger's blackface and his utter devastation at MLK's death. Ofc his behaviour in those instances is the bare minimum and what is automatically expected of a decent human being but still.

That show is legendary
ladyaerostar24 if AMC do a comedy shoe John Hamm should be cast as James mason.. his impression is bang on
Mad Men and Breaking Bad are the only good shows mentioned in this comment thread. Sons of Anarchy is a soap opera with guns and motorcycles.
Their flats in New York and L.A, are beautiful
Its sad to see how happy Megan once was and how miserable she is now.. Don ruins everything that he puts his hands on..
Yes she was a secretary, now she is millionaire. I wish i was this miserable
megan ruined herself by attempting to short cut her way to success and not earning it like joan and Peggy
@@brianwilson1074 She was happy and now she is a bitter person. It's not all about money
@@rogergomez1 I saw her as an opportunist.
I think of Salomes dance for King Herod in front of his guests. Weiner is too brilliant to not have thought of that.
