Julie Erin yeah but here I don’t disagree with don. Even though he was in the wrong about the argument you don’t get to throw something that sensitive at him in such a low blow. I might would have left too. Had he not loved her so much he would have kept going.
Don did tell her to get into the car and she refused, but Don was being an asshole that whole episode. Although what Megan said to Don was insensitive and cruel, Don has to have a thicker skin. I personally would not have left, but by the time we got outside you would hear it loud and clear.
I know there is love in that relationship - but that particular scene just didn't showcase it at all. I got more that it showcased Don's issues with his own feelings and his own demons and that's where the violence stemmed from. When he's on his knees hugging her at the waist and she's standing up I found it to be more of a representation of his insecurities and fear of abandonment and being alone; more as a generality than just being abondoned by Megan herself
Everyone is asking if they were in love, but I honestly think Don does not know what love is. Done grew up in such a repressed, non-loving environment that he has never seen an example of love. There was one moment in the series where Don is filming Sally's birthday party and he spots the couple in the dining room enjoying a tender moment together. Don is taken aback and stops filming. The look on his face says it all.
Matt Wiener is wrong, we don't 'get' that Don really loves her at all, what we get is that is he's an emotional cripple with abandonment issues like he's always had.
Lol Ikr, it’s quite amazing how that’s how he interprets his own creation lmao. Almost makes me wonder if he is purposely mis explaining it for some reason? Idk if that makes sense, but I’ve felt this with David Chase on the Sopranos sometimes as well.
how about this; "don loves her. he also hates losing control."? oh and hello from 2020. i usually don't respond on youtube vids, especially when they are 7yrs old but we are in quarantine and stuff you know.
Neither did I. Don was feeling desperation from almost losing a possession and most definitely not love at that point. The clingyness of it put my stomach in knots. I suppose I could be shocked the creator himself would interpret this scene this way, but then this is really typical of males thinking extreme acts are proof of love. They aren't. It just establishes a pattern to how far you'll go to keep something.
I think that the fight between Don and Megan highlighted Megan's desire to be treated as an equal outside of the office. They both seem to like to show how they feel with actions more than words.
This was an excellent, surreal episode which reminded me a bit of "The Jet Set" from Season 2. The bit with the sherbet was, IMO, the beginning of the rupture between Don and Megan.
not a huge fan of Jessica Pare's acting but this episode was the best I've seen from her. LOVED that part where Don and Megan chased each other in the room and ended up crying on the floor
She always struck me as a limited actress playing a limited actress. But even the least interesting actor on MAD MEN is still given some meat to chew on.
Really enjoy watching these "Inside Episode" videos and then watching the particular show. The Inside Episode really brings the show to a whole new level of appreciation. Peace.
While it may be debatable if he loves her (I think he does), it's clear he's very in love from the moment he proposed to her. That spark in his eyes is always there, probably because Jon and Jessica do have good on-screen chemistry.
Yes, they do. When he'd make out with Betty, he didn't seem like he was into her. She seemed a little frigid. But, with Megan, he was into her. As a matter-of-fact, he showed more lust with other women, as well. At the beginning of the series, the first woman he had the affair with, they were hot for each other. Don never had sex like that with Betty. Wonder if she is that boring in real life?
I think he fell in love from the moment he saw her with his kids. He grew up with terrible motherly figures who traumatized him, so it’s no surprise that he proposed to her when he sees her acting like a decent motherly figure
woow this episode was incredible. I loved it. I cracked up laughing when sterling opened that bottle, that was genius. Plus I learnt laying on the carpet is relationship therapy time.
Glad Roger left his child bride. Knew that wasn't going to work. Don pulling off and leaving Meagan: unforgivable. A man never deserts his wife, in that manner. Just drove and left her. And out-of-town, on top of that. What a jerk, Don can be. He's so into himself.
JJ he was wrong for that but what meagan said was way more unforgivable. Even though he was wrong in their argument she threw the most sensitive part of his past that he trusted her enough to tell her in his face in a super low blow.
ep, I think that Don doesn't love Megan or Betty. He just love to be in charge and has beautiful, perfect person in house. Maybe he admire Joan, maybe he loves her ( scene in bar) but for other people, Joan isn't perfect wife, so Don will never try to be with her, I think so
Can AMC just make all the 'inside the episode' clips available in the UK? The episodes have all aired over here anyway. On another note, Jesus Christ, the middle of season 5 was fucking fantastic. Episodes 5-8 were easily some of the best the show has ever done, especially this episode and Signal 30.
I truly think he did love Megan. You could see it in his excitement throughout the first half of this season. He was glowing. But I think he also saw her as someone he could control. Much like Betty, only Megan was visibly happy loving him all of the time. But he faces the reality of the fact that women, particularly young ones like Megan, were not women that wanted to be controlled. Megan has ambitions. She didn't want to be just 'Don's Wife'.
The ending was very sad! I can't BELIEVE I missed this episode and there I no way to watch except to wait months for Netflix to put it on DVD or Instant.
Am I the only one who didn't get 'love' from what happened with Don and Megan? When Weiner says at the end that it's violent and passionate and you can see how much he loves her. I just didn't interpret the conclusion of their story arc like that at all. Enjoyed the episode overall but wasn't a huge fan of the three simultaneous narratives that took place, just didn't really work for me
You're not alone. Their engagement was entirely on Don's impulse and their marriage only made sense when it was falling apart (full disclosure, I was a Don/Faye shipper so I may be biased), which it was from the season 5 premiere episode. On a narrative level, Don and happiness are the show's central will-they-won't-they couple. If Don finds happiness midway through the series, it loses its core focus.
ApartmentViews dude that's not love, that's some serious psychological abuse, Don should just not be in relationships he is so mentally unstable and beeds help but guess that's the point.
Agreed, we've never seen anything like that before. I thought Don was going to go and give Peggy a good bollocking after that, but glad he didn't. Don was brought down a peg or two in that episode - once by Megan and again by Bert. I wonder where he'll go from here...
So what did you get from that part of the story? I did see love, but it's a very strange kind of love - a Don Draper kind of love. It's completely different to how smitten he was with Betty in season one or two, but that love turned out to be unfulfilled. He got his fulfilment from debauchery and infidelity and knew that Betty wouldn't fight back (until the divorce, of course). Megan, on the other hand, is much more independent and headstrong and Don is struggling to cope with that.
loved don and megan in this episode i would have left don outside for several hours because i had to get on the bus with no money and ride for 6 hours cant believe he just left her there and the ice cream part i couldnt stop laffing
if a man ever left me stranded in parking lot far away from home, i'd be finished with him
Julie Erin yep!
Absolutely.
Yeah, but if it's Don Draper... you'd have to think twice. That guy's just two damn sexy.
Julie Erin yeah but here I don’t disagree with don. Even though he was in the wrong about the argument you don’t get to throw something that sensitive at him in such a low blow. I might would have left too. Had he not loved her so much he would have kept going.

I agree completely. I’ve known men like this. They try but they just can’t love.
Matt Wiener is wrong, we don't 'get' that Don really loves her at all, what we get is that is he's an emotional cripple with abandonment issues like he's always had.

The Ginsberg saying he’s from Mars “far away places” connection totally went over my head til now. God I love this show.
Don does not love her, he Hates losing control!
how about this; "don loves her. he also hates losing control."?
oh and hello from 2020. i usually don't respond on youtube vids, especially when they are 7yrs old but we are in quarantine and stuff you know.
@JHBL luck i am trying to understand, not judge. i did say neither it's moral nor it isn't.
@@CresinZero His love for her is trumped by his hatred of losing control.
he only likes the beginnings of things :)
Ginsberg's Martian speech is one of my favorite scenes and monologues in Mad Men.
Yeah, I didn't get "love story" from that either. I was surprised we didn't get a "love is respect" psa at the end.
Pure genius. This is the best and the most strange episode on Mad Men series of all times. Well done Matt Weiner and Team !!!
2:24 Michael Ginsberg was so good looking
did anyone else notice that at 3:15 roger's head moves in the mirror but not outside the mirror?
Yes. It’s because he’s on acid.
Yep. I also noticed that it's Don's voice that says, "don't look in the mirror" at first. Such a great depiction of a trip.
episode not only filmed at the Pulp Fiction restaurant, but was written like Pulp Fiction - great episode.
Really enjoy watching these "Inside Episode" videos and then watching the particular show. The Inside Episode really brings the show to a whole new level of appreciation.
Peace.

Whatever It is, Peggy has got it in spades.
I liked her best in the first two seasons. So cute. Nice petite body. She also looked real good during the Popsicle pitch with her shorter hairstyle.
Whatever It is elizebeth moss has it in bigger spades... she's the next meryl streep in my opinion
I love Megan's style
huh!!!?? where did this channel come from? cancel my meetings I have youtube videos to watch!
I don't even work for you man but you got it you got it.
woow this episode was incredible. I loved it. I cracked up laughing when sterling opened that bottle, that was genius. Plus I learnt laying on the carpet is relationship therapy time.

Don is abusive in so many ways but it's when he really feels powerless that he becomes the "monster" like Peggy called him in a later episode
ep, I think that Don doesn't love Megan or Betty. He just love to be in charge and has beautiful, perfect person in house. Maybe he admire Joan, maybe he loves her ( scene in bar) but for other people, Joan isn't perfect wife, so Don will never try to be with her, I think so

This show rocks. "Oh I'm so terrible, making you eat ICE CREAM". OM NOM NOM NOM.
"Hahaha! I'm at the world series!"
I cannot stand it when any man abandons a woman period !!
Loved that chase scene, so much.
3:04 is SO funny. Cooper's lines this season are great.
This is the best episode.
One of the all time best episodes of Mad Men (The Other Woman is incredible too).
Love this episode Megan and Don ❤️❤️❤️
One of my favourite episodes.
This episode made me fall in love with Jessica Paré
Roger Stirling is my hero.
I truly think he did love Megan. You could see it in his excitement throughout the first half of this season. He was glowing. But I think he also saw her as someone he could control. But he faces the reality of the fact that women, particularly young ones like Megan, were not women that wanted to be controlled. Megan has ambitions. She didn't want to be just 'Don's Wife'.
On of the better shows of this season!
Stan without his beard - looks so weird 😁
The ending was very sad!
I can't BELIEVE I missed this episode and there I no way to watch except to wait months for Netflix to put it on DVD or Instant.

I for one would be horrified to be in a relationship with Megan.
Elizabeth Moss is so pretty here.
Mad man is een super film.heb nog geen mooiere film gezien als deze serie
Many viewers do get that Don really loves her. I certainly did.
ApartmentViews dude that's not love, that's some serious psychological abuse, Don should just not be in relationships he is so mentally unstable and beeds help but guess that's the point.
He thinks he loves her. Faye hit the nail on the head when she said he only like the beginnings of things, the promise of something new and shiny.
Don was capable of truly loving any woman.
favorite episode
Agreed, we've never seen anything like that before. I thought Don was going to go and give Peggy a good bollocking after that, but glad he didn't. Don was brought down a peg or two in that episode - once by Megan and again by Bert. I wonder where he'll go from here...

Megan independent? Don gave her everything.
yes.
loved don and megan in this episode i would have left don outside for several hours because i had to get on the bus with no money and ride for 6 hours cant believe he just left her there and the ice cream part i couldnt stop laffing
That sherbet looked like shit
how?
Gahhhh I don't want Don and Megan together! :p
Yeah...she is also a fast runner
I thought it was fantastic
Keep your hand away Peggy
😡
Too bad moss is a scientologist, such a cute girl
So is Anne Archer from Fatal Attraction. What a cryin' shame!
Whaaaaat
well too bad they didn't end up together
I suppose I'm the only person who thought this episode was awful?
why?
