It's not about the scores - being excellent academically doesn't really mean much (contrary to popular belief). It's about how well you sell yourself and justify why you deserve the scholarship - which is why the essays are super important.

Yes, I believe an explanation is needed for each answer because the point of the interview is for them to hear what you have to say - your opinions and thought process... just like a job interview would go. Practice among your friends and family, perhaps? What specifically about the TOEFL test would you like to know?

If you want to travel more than comfortably, then it's up to you! You can check Skyscanner/Greyhound/Bolt Bus etc, and Agoda/Airbnb for to have an estimate for the expenses

Hi Mahlet, glad my videos have been helpful! Does the email mention you've passed the interview and you'll be part of the 2020/2021 cohort? TOEFL is usually done for the universities, not so much the scholarship. If unsure, best to contact your local organisation in charge.

Hi Shoki, it's up to you when you want to take TOEFL, I would recommend to do it after the selection period because: 1) if you're selected, the test will be paid for 2) if you pay on your own to input into the application, you don't get your money back whether you get selected or not. Regarding the timeline, I'm not sure anymore as it has changed, but usually around 2-3 months after the deadline has closed. @Van Trang Bui oh, I'm not sure about that as I've never heard of it. Usually, you will just have to inform your university that you want to defer a semester. Better for you to consult your university advisor, tbh.

Hello Mark, I believe you can select your preferred intake on the application form (not sure if it has changed though). However, ultimately, World Learning determines the intake :)

Hi, you will be opening an American bank account to receive the monthly stipend. Regarding the credit card, it's up to you - nothing's gonna happen lol How much you need also depends on how your expenditure is like. Living frugally, the stipend is good enough.

Hi Zoirsho, hmm.. I went in December of the same year. The student ID would be from the host institution as your home university would not have anything to do with your host institution/exchange program. You MUST have AT LEAST one semester to complete after your exchange program - that's one of the eligibility criteria.

Hi Chaima, the interview will be held at office of whichever organisation is handling your country's Global UGRAD program. At least for Malaysia, it is.

Hi Priya! You will need to state clearly the history of which vaccination you have gotten, and take those which you have not. Yes, being an alternate candidate means you're first in line if a finalist does not participate.

@@sabinalyv5620 Regarding your transcripts, you have to upload ALL your transcripts from the first semester till the present. As for the visa requirement, the 2-year rule is more for those who want to go back to the U.S. for residence/long-term visa purpose i.e. study, work..etc (other than tourism). You can still leave your country. Google about the J-1 visa to find out more.

Hi, it should be ok to apply without the passport. If selected, then you will apply for it. No, passport fee is not covered under this program.

Hi Siddhi, congratulations on being a finalist! No, I didn't encounter that issue. All the required documents should be on the same platform as the application. Did the email provide a link to it, as well? For technical questions, it's best to refer to World Learning :)

TOEFL is usually done for the universities, not so much the scholarship.
If unsure, best to contact your local organisation in charge.

Hi Isha, congratulations on getting through the first round! Yes, it is a J-1 visa requirement which requires you to return to your home country for 2 years. You can ask your advisor for more info on that :)

I’m applying to the program and I would really appreciate it if you reply to my question. So regarding the toefl exam, do i do it if my application is accepted or should i do it even before I apply then add it the application... also how long does it take for the program to announce the accepted ones? Hi Shoki, it's up to you when you want to take TOEFL, I would recommend to do it after the selection period because:
1) if you're selected, the test will be paid for
2) if you pay on your own to input into the application, you don't get your money back whether you get selected or not.
Regarding the timeline, I'm not sure anymore as it has changed, but usually around 2-3 months after the deadline has closed. I gave a general timeline here, based on my experience: ua-cam.com/video/dR6_aS4vWog/v-deo.html

Hello again Naomi! I am glad to tell you that this year was my second time applying to Global Ugrad after getting rejected last year, and I got shortlisted for the interview in a few days! Any tips for the interview? And is it the ones selected after the interview who do the toefl exam, or does the selection depend on the toefl score?
Hey Naomi, when does the primary stage shortlisted result for the interview gets published usually? and how are we going to be called out for the interview? Are we going to be contacted by email or phone by the concerned department?
Hi Syeda, the interview would be conducted sometime in February, so those shortlisted will be contacted via email around a week or two before that.

@Van Trang Bui oh, I'm not sure about that as I've never heard of it. Usually, you will just have to inform your university that you want to defer a semester. Better for you to consult your university advisor, tbh.

Hello Mark, I believe you can select your preferred intake on the application form (not sure if it has changed though). However, ultimately, World Learning determines the intake :)

@@markandreigamboa5547 not a restriction on leaving your country, but a two-year home residency. Basically means you can't go back to the US in 2 years for studies/work/permanent residence. You should Google about J-1 visa - that's the visa for the program.

Hi, you will be opening an American bank account to receive the monthly stipend. Regarding the credit card, it's up to you - nothing's gonna happen lol How much you need also depends on how your expenditure is like. Living frugally, the stipend is good enough.

Hi Zoirsho, hmm.. I went in December of the same year. The student ID would be from the host institution as your home university would not have anything to do with your host institution/exchange program. You MUST have AT LEAST one semester to complete after your exchange program - that's one of the eligibility criteria.

Hi Chaima, the interview will be held at office of whichever organisation is handling your country's Global UGRAD program. At least for Malaysia, it is.

Hi Priya! You will need to state clearly the history of which vaccination you have gotten, and take those which you have not. Yes, being an alternate candidate means you're first in line if a finalist does not participate.

@@sabinalyv5620 Regarding your transcripts, you have to upload ALL your transcripts from the first semester till the present.
As for the visa requirement, the 2-year rule is more for those who want to go back to the U.S. for residence/long-term visa purpose i.e. study, work..etc (other than tourism). You can still leave your country. Google about the J-1 visa to find out more.

Hi Amira, it was a different process back then. I was only asked to take the TOEFL after being selected as a finalist.

@@amirasalvador604 a finalist, a scholar, a participant. In situations where you're confused whether or not you got the scholarship, it's best to reach out directly to World Learning instead of assuming/being in doubt.
