This feature is cool, I wish it was also available for smaller iPhones (like iPhone SE 2020). Not only Home screen rotation, but also apps like Messages, Settings etc. that would look really nice in landscape mode (like on iPads) (not just a vertical version stretched out)
@@keshawnmcgee1120 yeah, but they're stretched out. If you rotate messages on, for example, iPhone 6S Plus, it'll look like on an iPad (one side with conversations, and another side with currently opened conversation)
I believe the actual reason is much simpler: Face ID. As you probably know, it won’t authenticate you in landscape, at all. I don’t think either the widgets or the notch are the problem here: The home screen with widgets still rotates just fine on iPads. And there are a plenty of apps that support the landscape view on notched iPhones without issues; e.g. web browsers, messaging apps, photo apps… while the top bar just gets hidden; no issues there.
@@rockrida317 Well, that’s the thing. iPhone won’t unlock in landscape; it won’t even acknowledge that you’re staring at it, even if you just wanna check notifications on the lock screen…
If anyone else remembers, before iOS 7 came in, you used to be able to rotate your screen in any orientation even when you have Rotation Lock on. In essence, portrait isn’t the default orientation that’s forced onto the user. So when you’re watching a video on Apple’s default QuickTime player, you can rotate the screen, turn on Lock Rotation and the screen won’t go to portrait orientation. It will stay on landscape. This is most useful when you’re lying on your side watching a video on your iPhone or iPod touch. The video doesn’t go to portrait when it thinks the device is upright or it doesn’t go berserk the moment you slightly move your phone to the side. Another way to control screen rotation when locked is manually changing the orientation in Assistive Touch. Before iOS 7, you could have Rotation Lock on and go to the Rotate Screen option in Assistive Touch and essentially force the screen to whatever orientation you want. Today, however, you have to turn Portrait Orientation Lock: Off and then go to Assistive Touch Rotate Screen options. Which totally defeats the purpose if could just turn the phone on its side while Portrait Orientation Lock is off by default. For some reason Apple decided that your phones are strictly for portrait viewing only and forces you to watch videos on portrait orientation even if it’s the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. As mentioned by some other viewers here, I think part of the reason for Apple’s crusade on landscape orientation on iPhone is Face ID, which doesn’t work when in any other orientation. Which itself itself doesn’t make sense since iPad Pro could already Face ID on any orientation. Portrait, landscape left, landscape right, upside down. I wonder why Apple hates it when the iPhone is used on its side.
Yeah I'm right with you and I remember when it used to actually work sensibly. It might sound minor but orientation headaches like this were definitely one of the things that made me switch to Android and never look back. Now I couldn't be happier with a Galaxy S20 Ultra, soon to be S22 Ultra (aka what should've been called Note 22) I'm an artist too so I actually appreciate the pen support even on a "small" 6.9in screen. Since I had an iPad prior to owning an iPhone, which supports home screen rotation, I naively assumed that my iPhone would too. But was sad when I found out that, not just the Home Screen, but a lot of first party and third party apps do not rotate to landscape. As much as I like Face ID, the cost consumers paid for it, because of the unavoidable notch, is significant. I hope the rumours are true about the next generation of iPhones sporting an under-display Face ID sensor. A side mounted Touch ID sensor, à la the iPad Air, would be a nice bonus.

Bad and lazy excuses . They could just keep it as it was by removing automatically widgets in portrait mode and then bring them back when you turn your phone to the original position. But, as always, They rather to keep aesthetics than functionality in their phones. An lets be honest, that notch it is not about functionality either. they tried so hard to be distinguished, that they fucked it up
Is it just like that on the home screen or in apps as well (like messages, photo, camera, netflix, youtube etc.)? (Still have the iPhone 8+ and thinking about upgrading soon to the iPhone 14 when that is coming out)
I don't own any apple devices, but I do own a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G which has a notch and allows you to have home rotation once you enable it in the home settings. Seems like apple is just making an excuse not to implement this is their iphones. I don't want any hate by apple users, I just can't afford an apple devices.
I remember when i played around with my uncles brand new iPhone 7+ and it had this and i never knew that it actually existed. Well that was like s million years ago.
I never noticed that. I thought only iPods and iPads could flip the screen. But now, I found out that phones could too until now or whatever. That's sad 😢.
1:04 bs... all you gotta do is black out where the edges of the notch are and start the visible screen from there so it becomes a bezel. This is done on plenty of android phones with notches. and the time and other widgets would just go to top. the large widgets would go from vertical to landscape by changing what position the data is be it on bottom in vertical or on right side in horizontal. how lazy are apple engineers? just because its a bit of work you kill an existing feature. On my android I got infinitely customisable widgets that work in vertical and landscape
It works olny on iPhone 6 plus to 8 plus and the coolest thing is it works on every iOS version from 8 to 16! But you have to remove all the widgets from your homescreen
I mean, my Note 10+ has a big camera hole punch but I can still rotate the homescreen and the clock and status/notification icons rotate without issue. As do the widgets, which scale and reshape to suit.
In android each phone have this , even the cheaper ones. This is what you get when you have a closed system like Apple, and open one like Android . This is why i'm totally out of Apple ecosystem .
when i first got my iphone x i thought it was a bug, since it’s pre-owned. turns out it’s a feature, but it goes to show that it’s so stupid people actually think there’s something wrong lmao
I don’t understand the need to have everything in landscape. Like, just for the home screen? It’s a phone (which we all hold vertically, naturally)… with 6.1 or 6.7in of screen, it’s not an iPad. Landscape is for… video, Photos, Maps, Garage Band, Calculator, etc. Must I go on? There’s no real significance of being able have literally everything in landscape. I mean, how many of you are even taking advantage of using landscape with on iMessage? That’s what I thought. Seems old school and cool, but… obsolete. y’all are a joke. Lol 😂
Just Jailbreak your iPhone and you'll have more control - or ditch it for an Android. You won't have Facetime or iMessage but honestly, it should not hold you back. I have an Android and an iPhone X. I will keep my X until it dies. Just replaced the battery. So if it lasts me for 3 more years I am fine having an old iPhone for some features but I think I am going to start switching to Android. The Samsung S21+... wow, the screen is amazing colors and the camera on this even compared to the iPhone 13 Pro model is mind-blowing. It is amazing how much more you can do and how many more features you get. I am not a fanboy of either. I have alternated between both. Each has its pros and cons. I only wish the iPhone would allow two versions of iOS - a standard user and a developer mode for those who want more freedom. It would probably kill Jailbreaking 100% if iPhone lets you do some non-standard features (within reason I am sure). But some of the Jailbreak features I use are how much time until my alarm goes off in the morning so I can see how much sleep I'll get. Being able to fit 5 icons at the bottom. FaceID unlocks faster, it offered the ability to unlock with the Apple Watch before Apple even allowed this. So many common sense things Apple won't let you do. Heck - does anyone remember when copy-paste was NOT available on the iPhone?!? I do, and I was able to copy-paste before anyone else could. Sad that Apple locks their devices up so much and basically says you don't own the phone you bought and spent $1300 on!!!
It’s BS what Apple is doing just excuses! My brother has Android phone they have same widgets “before Apple” different sizes and when he turns his phone horizontally all his apps including bigger widgets complement horizontal view and looks great! All Apple is doing or saying are excuses! It sucks that they don’t program this bc it’s not impossible!
This is soooo annoying I had an 8plus for so long and just upgraded to the 15 pro max and it’s incredibly annoying to not have this feature especially when wanting to use my wireless keyboard I have to crank my neck sideways. Apple really let me down on this one. I also like to play Genshin impact and other newer iOS games and toggle between my phone apps when needed and having to turn the whole unit is driving me bonkers. If it wasn’t for the camera and 120 fps I would go back to my 8plus. Funny how I took my old device for granted 😭😭😭 bring back landscape mode for those who don’t mind the notches or in my case the islands being in the way. I’m sure they can integrate it back and make it not overlap the apps on the notch sides!
Kind of bummed, cause I upgraded from an 8Plus to 14 Pro Max, and I wish the home screen rotated. oh well. I used horizontal mode all the time with my phone sitting on the stand oh my desk, alas... vertical only now.
Come on don't be an idiot. It's not because of the notch. It's an easy software fix, that android has had for years and they have had widgets much longer than iphone. Apple high ups just decided that they don't want to be bothered to do it. Pure laziness. Just like the stupid calculator on the ipad. Apple fanboys and fangirls just accept whatever apple does and makes excuses for them. As long as apple owners keep acting like sheep and don't speak up louder this will happen. Stop making excuses or trying to find a real reason. This is such a freaking easy fix with the rotation. It's just annoying. Things like this make it so I could never solely use only apple products.

Hello brother I have one doubt if we forgot Apple ID and password how should we open the screen of iPhone any model of iPhone
I noticed my 8 Plus stopped rotating after updating to iOS 14 with widgets
I think this is odd since the first iPhone with a notch was the iPhone X in 2017 but 3 years later we get the iPhone SE 2 that still doesnt have it.
My friend has a 6S+ and I have an 8, and he said , "turn your screen sideways on the home screen, itll work!" but it never worked for me. I thought it was his 6s+ and i guess i was right. I wish i could have this feature on my iPhone 8.
(Still have the iPhone 8+ and thinking about upgrading soon to the iPhone 14 when that is coming out)
I miss that feature on my 7+
I don't own any apple devices, but I do own a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G which has a notch and allows you to have home rotation once you enable it in the home settings. Seems like apple is just making an excuse not to implement this is their iphones. I don't want any hate by apple users, I just can't afford an apple devices.
It worked on IOS 14 On my 7 Plus... i did use this feature... And i miss it.
Widget thing doesn’t make sense to me as iPad with widgets does rotate and manages widget placement quiet well.
It does not look weird!
Actually there's a tweak that does that if you jailbreak your iPhone.
It works olny on iPhone 6 plus to 8 plus and the coolest thing is it works on every iOS version from 8 to 16! But you have to remove all the widgets from your homescreen
Typing from an iPhone 8 Plus and switching to Galaxy 22 Ultra because iOS is way too constricted.
I mean, my Note 10+ has a big camera hole punch but I can still rotate the homescreen and the clock and status/notification icons rotate without issue. As do the widgets, which scale and reshape to suit.
ACTULLY WITH NOTCH, THEY CAN PUT TIME LIKE
14
21
and it would still look great
In android each phone have this , even the cheaper ones. This is what you get when you have a closed system like Apple, and open one like Android . This is why i'm totally out of Apple ecosystem .
I want this feature back
Android phones have nothches/punchholes and widgets too, rotation works just fine...
when i first got my iphone x i thought it was a bug, since it’s pre-owned. turns out it’s a feature, but it goes to show that it’s so stupid people actually think there’s something wrong lmao
I’m sure they can integrate it back and make it not overlap the apps on the notch sides!
still works on iphone 7 lol
It was pretty much useless because iOS apps such as Facebook & UA-cam dropped support for landscape mode.
Kind of bummed, cause I upgraded from an 8Plus to 14 Pro Max, and I wish the home screen rotated. oh well. I used horizontal mode all the time with my phone sitting on the stand oh my desk, alas... vertical only now.
That's why I would never buy an Iphone, literally removing features without any reason whatsoever
The widgets argument is a terrible argument.. my ipad can rotate with widgets and it has the same amount of apps on the screen 😐
I was literally thinking about this yesterday
This feature still exists for the iPhone 7 Plus however, but not newer iPhones beyond that point.
It didn't exist on my iPhone 8 plus 🥺
@@chaorepsa7817 It still have. You need to remove all the widgets on the homescreen and now it can rotate.
