I haven't got a clue when it comes to electrics. My head just doesn't work in this way. I've watched so many basic beginner videos and couldn't figure out what I was meant to be doing with the earth. Nobody mentions it at all and you highlighted it and explained it brilliantly, so thank you. I can finally crack on 🙏
I'm just on the Screwfix site and there are various terminals. For example 16A, 30A, 6A, 3A, and 60A. I'm just wiring up 5 12V LED lights. Do you have any recommendations for which I should use?
@@StudioInnatetake the wattage of each light, let's assume 30 watts. You take the watts, divided by the volt, in this case 12v, that's 2.5 amps. So you now know to use the 3amp fuse connection for this light. Use the correct amperage connection for the amount of watts each item uses.
@@ElBrisho thanks for this. I’ve pressed on now and I got my head around everything and it’s all working great. It’s just a lot to take in on day one of learning
Thank you so much tommy i bought the same unit and going to install in my campervan i search so many videos but this is the best simple and best clear video thanks heaps for the video have a good one mate
Tommy, I really appreciate your clear video, I am installing the same unit in my motorcycle today to control all the accessories, and watching this video made it so simple. Thanks that is the type of video we should always have online to learn from them. Julian 05/12/2023 San Francisco, California USA.
Thanks dude. I’ve purchased this panel. I was hoping it was only going to need one wire for peptide from battery. Someone said I needed to run multiple wires from the panel to the battery which doesn’t make sense lol
Good Man, i have just been looking at that type of switchblock for my 12v solar shed project and i couldnt work out why there was only lives on the switches😁👍
Perfect..thanks.. I'm going to order one this weekend and fit it soon.. so I don't need a fuse box then ? Just live and Negative wires from leisure battery to the 12v Switch panel? Cheers
Only video I've found which explains this so simply. Thank you! I do have one question though, why do you have a separate fuse box if there are already built in fuses? Thank you!
I’ve got a solar control unit, do I run the leisure batteries to that. Then from the solar control unit to the switch board that you have there? Also does the solar control unit act as a fuse board in this scenario?
So helpful! About to have a go myself 😅 so... Does a single fuse off the fuse board run the switch plate? I can't get my head around how the fuse board and switch board link together.
That’s where I’m on stop.. I’m just going to run everything through their own switches, back to the fuse board. Like on 240. I have a volt display on the split relay. Don’t need another
Is your switch panel live all the time now with the way you have done that if so that will drain your battery you need another little switch to be able to turn the switch panel off
Hi mate thanks for the helpful videos, I'm lost when it comes to the electrical side of things. I have a lithium set up, 300amp battery with 550 watts solar so bags of power .my question is I have a 12 v Chinese diesel heater and need to connect it up my fuse board and switch board are full ,running lights, fridge and water pump .any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Hello mate 👍🏼 Maybe upgrade your fuseboard to a 6 or 12 way fuseboard, I'd personally go for more as it gives you more outlets in the future if needed 👍🏼
So because it runs from the fuse board to the switch panel, can you wire up, diesel heater, water tap, 4 LED spot lights and 12v fridge all from the switch board now?
Has confused me a bit. The fuse block at the start now seems redundant? If this is all been fed from the battery, one inline fuse would have sufficed? And everything is fused off the back of this control panel. Effectively turning this into the fuse board. Know what I mean? Or have I got it wrong
Hi Tommy. I'm trying to wire the same switch panel to my leisure battery, although I didn't think of using a fuse board. Which fuse board did you use and what gauge wiring? Thanks
Another great video. Was inspired by you to get the split charge set which I have installed....well, up to the fuse box part. What I would love to know is if I wire up some LEDs to a Switch panel at back of van via the leisure battery, can I also control them from a second switch at front of van? Thanks so much
Think he went through the fuse board just because he had one in his setup and has plans to use the fuse board for other items. Going through the fuse board to the switch panel is essentially an extra bit of safety really ( I think) 😅
Hi mate quick question. Am about to do this did you run the cable to your 12v blade fuse holder or did you go straight to batterys also what fuse is in for the panel as am guessing you would have ran it to one of your pos points on the blade and then neg buz bar at the top of it so would need to put a fuse in is it a 30amp
Thanks for the explanation, nice simple. Although, sorry but everytime you said earth grated on me, and probably anyone thats in or been in the electrical industry. It's a neutral on DC. Domestic AC current normally as three wire live, neutral and earth path.
This might be a stupid question but do you still run everything through the 12v fuse board and then into this as a normal inline switch, or does this become it’s own 12v fuse board?
Can you run mutiple lights from one switch on the switch board or do they all need to go to separate switches? Seems like you’d run out of switches fast if doing that. Cheers
Hi mate. I'm going to use a ecoflow power pack instead of a leisure battery, but i want a switch block on the wall so all i need is to connect the power pack to the switch block whenever i take it in and out of the van and use elsewhere. I'm only going to use the switch block for 12v stuff like lights. I will be using a 4 gang switch block like the one in the video which has it's own fuses in the red blocks at the back...as per your video. Q?...do I really need a separate fuse board for this? Areen't the fuses in the back of the switchblock enough?
Hi mate, lots of people don't use a main fuse board as there's inline fuses already in the panel. I personally do because it gives me more feeds if needed, I run my heater directly from it etc 👍🏼
Hi mate, sorry if I missed it but how did you wire up the switch panel to the fuse box? Would your lights fridge etc just be wired to the control panel and not the fuse board? Much appreciated
Bro could you just run all the negatives to a negative bus bar and all the positives to a positive buss bar with a fuse between the battery and the positive bus bar? Wouldn’t that be much easier?
@@kieranfinch3928 That's how I do it mate 👍🏼 I usually run a 50a breaker between the leisure battery and fuse box. Make sure your fuse box is earthed clean, take paint back to bare metal if earthing on bodywork.
Excellent. The connector block is the key to understanding the process. I couldn't work out how that bit was going to work otherwise.
